  1. Yesterday I got sleeved at Integris Hospital in Okc Ok by Dr. Hamilton Le. I must say that I had a wonderful surgeon and support staff. The nurses were all wonderful and I had minimal pain after the procedure. Drinking all of the litle cups of water immediately after getting to my room was kind of wild. I had to drink water out of those little plastic cups that they use for meds. They wanted me to drink 8 every two hours plus I had to walk twice a shift. The first few laps were a little wobbley but soon I was goiing aroud the place like a pro. I must say that today after all of the gas was gone and the anethesia wore off I did have some pain today and had to take a dose of liquid lortab. The liquid pain med gets into the system much faster than the pills and it took care of my pain right away. My first meal at home was some blended cream of chicken soup wich tasted great but I think I over ate a little. So I was overfull for at least an hour. My wife made me some home made cream of mushroom soup and this time I only had one half of a cup. I bought one of thse coffee cup warmers to keep my soup warm while I at. I took plenty of time to do that but I still didn't finish it, it was just too much. I am completely happy with my decision and I can't wait to start wearing smaller and smaller jeans and shirts. I have quite a collection of pants and shirts in various sizes so I plan on donating them as I "shrink our" of them. I will keep you all posted as time goes on. I really appreciate all of the suppott from you folks as I got prepared for the journey. Mark Thomas, Edmond Oklahoma
  2. Well after all of the doctors appointments shrink visits, nutritionist visits, weight watching and preop diets it looks like it is finally down to the last 24 hours. My surgery is scheduled for noon tomorrow here in Oklahoma City. Me and six other patients are scheduled for that day. I was told the surgery was going to take 45 minutes and I will be spending 4 hours in recovery. Then up to my room for the start of my new life as a skinny person. I have been asked many times, "aren't you nervous?" and I can honestly say no. I have done so much research on this that I really have a handle on it. I have been going to lots of support group meetings and let's just get this show on the road. Wish me luck and I will see you all on the other side. Mark Thomas, Edmond Oklahoma

    My Primary Doctor was PISSED

My insurance required a letter of necessity from my PCP which he screwed up by the way. It took me 3 extra months to get the thing straightened out. Now I am on day 2 of my 3 day liquid diet and my surgery is on the 24th at noon. Wish me luck. BTW I canned my original PCP and now I go to a lady doctor who was sleeved 3 years ago and supports me 100 percent. So can your doc and get a new one. You don't have to have the same PCP for life.
  4. I take Unjury protien and their brand of chewable vitamins and chewable Calcium Citrate as well

Just wanted to let you know that. Mark, Edmond Ok PS I have my surgery on Wednesday, I hope that I look as good as you when I'm done, but of course I would need a hair transplant also, LOL.

    Coffee

I heard that caffine impedes healing but I also know it is a dieuretic. I went to decaf, tastes just find
  8. Tell the selfish bastard to grow up. I drives me crazy when I hear about husbands that sit on their butts expecting their wife to take care of them. If he doesn' like what you fix, tell him to fix his own meals and quit snivelling.

    Pre Op Diet Disaster

I don't think your out of luck but I sure would not do this kind of thing again. My prep with my doctor is only ten days so I think you should be ok. But if your really want to know, you better check with your nutritionist.
  12. I also have a clotting disorder. I will be on Lovanox for ten days prior to surgery and however many days afterwards until my INR is back up to 3.5 or higher. I have had numerous surgeries in the past with no bleeding problems so I am confident that this one will go the same. Good luck on your journey.

    Consequences of no protein

Try different brands of protein and use something in your water. Unjury Strawberry Sorbet tastes great in water with ice. Give that a try and know that there must be some kind of protein that you will like. Don't give up and ruin your health and your weight loss goals
  14. I had my preop nutritionist meet and meeting with my doctor before my 24 July surgery. I am stoked and ready to go. I started my 10 prep early just to make sure that my liver is nice and skinny to make my doc happy and I went to support group last night. I have the suport of many people and I am grateful for that. My wife is getting me all the food goodies that I will need for the immediate future. I ordered my vitamins and my calcium citrate will be here on Monday. Just waiting for the 24th.

    Atkins protein bars

I just got some last night, very tasty
  16. Pork chops are usually fairly high in sodium any processed meats a also high. Even low fat cottage cheese has over 400 mg of sodium per serving. If you have time, download my fitness pro it is a diet tracking software that will help you plan your meals and eliminate as much sodium as you can. It has a database with thousands of entries for all kinds of foods including fresh as well a fast foods. Good luck and if I can help let me know ok?
  17. You go girl, follow the instructions and drink lots and lots of crystal light or Mio what ever you can do to stay full. When you think of food remember that when this is over and your back on solid foods you can eat your favorites again, just not as much. Think how great you will look with the weight off and wearing your skinny jeans instead of a cheeseburger ok?

    Not doing the liquid diet

Here's the deal if you fail to follow your doctors orders as to the liquid diet, your liver will be quite large. If it is too large then you have to have an open procedure which means more pain a longer recovery and a great big vertical scar on your midsection. If that is what you want fine but you are risking your health by not doing the liquid diet. Please don't think I'm being harsh but I just had my preop briefing with my nutritionist and my surgeon. They were quite emphatic about this very thing. Plus you doctor my decide to cancel your surgery entirely. Everyone is telling you that you can do it. The fact of the matter is you "must" do it. Think about it if you can't do your liquid diet what do you this is going to happen when you have surgery and have to go on addition liquid diets to help get your stomach healed. Please for your sake get it together and work towards getting yourself healthy and start your journey towards a successful weight loss procedure
  19. I waited for ever or so it seemed. My original application to Blue Cross got shot down because of my uninformed PCP. He slowed down the process by several months. I felt that the health team at my surgeons office didn't care I was going nuts. I kept calling my insurance company and kept getting lies about weither if I was approved or not. But finally I got approved. Then it was go go go. So be patient and know in your heart that you are doing the right thing and soon you will begin your journey. We are all rooting for you.

    OMG Surgery Aug 8th !

Don't worry sweetie, your doing the right thing and I too thought that my surgery would never happen but guess what? My surgery is July 24th. After going to my final nutritionist briefing and seeing all the folks that would be there with me (the class was full of people with the same surgery date) I and my wife felt much better. We will all be thinking of you and wishing you the best. Follow your doctors orders follow the prep to the letter and everything will be fine. You a beautiful women and just think how great it will be to be at your goal weight and buying new clothes to show off your new figure. Good luck
  21. July 24th for me. I went to my pre op nutrition class, surgical briefing and last doctors visit before the big day. Even though I don't start my prep until sunday, My wife and I have already made up a list of all the foods that I will need and she is going to make all of my low fat cream soups that are required. Much more healthy and alot cheaper. I have been looking at some of the crazy prices for all of the "bariatric friendly" foods and sometimes you need to put on the brakes and look at the situation. I am so glad that I have a partner like my wife Betty to help me with this transision.
  22. After months of emotional ups and downs, sleepless nights and bungling medical office staff I have finally gotten a surgery date. I will get sleeved on the 24th of July at 11:00 am. Its funny, the attitudes of all of my doctors support staff changed as soon as the approval came through. I had a appointment with my endochronologist at 9:00 am and went over last minute details with my insulin pump instructions, then at 1:00 pm had a two hour nutritional and surgery update so all of the patients having surgery on my same day gets their final marching orders. I am so pumped, excited and totally willing to start my journey. I can't wait for Thursday nights support group meeting and tell everyone. I have many friends and my lovely wife is fully in support of my decision and all is well. I also want to thank all of you for your support and kind words and your wisdom for the gastric sleeve journey. Thank you all, Mark Thomas Edmond Ok

    What's the Difference? (re Unjury)

Chocolate splendor has "splenda" the other one has a different sweetner that slips my mind. The chocolate splendor is very good, I use it all the time.
