  1. My Dr. and the nut has a book that was given to me prior to surgery. I have read it for six months before surgery. Phase 1 wasSull liquid sugar free.Phase 2 was called pureed Sugar Free now she says it is "Mushies" This is much more restrictive than the soft food Phase 3 diet. Both are only 1/4 cup but phase 2 is like cottage cheese, applesauce, cream of wheat and pureed Soups. Why is it so important to not eat refried Beans maybe some turkey chili etc as long as it is pureed? Has anyone ever had a diet this restrictive? I have to be on phase 2 for 4 to 6 weeks. Thanks Mark

    Pumpers and Sleeve Surgery

I had my surgery on 24 July and I to am on an insulin pump (medtronic). I was having some weird things happening with me. I would have a Protein shake with one cup of milk and would bolus for 20 grams of carbs but my BG would zoom up to 180 or so. Then the rest of the day I would do ok on my basal only but at about 5:00 pm my BG would crash to the low 50's. I had to start suspending my pump at night and would wake up the next morning to start over with the same thing. My endo finally told me to simply disconnect the pump all together for a week and see how it went. My BG is now not less than 156 and goes up to around 220 and stays there most of the time. I think I will be getting off the pump but I do think that at least for a while I may need either some insulin or or an oral drug to hold me over while my weight decreases. I have lost about 30 pounds in 3 weeks and I am sure that my weight loss will continue. I just don't know what my diabetes will do to cooperate. I am 60 years old and have been diabetic since my mid 30's. So to be totally honest I don't think that I will be completely "cured". Perhaps if I had gotten the surgery 30 years ago it would have been different. But you will never know till you try. I have gotten pretty tired of pumping insulin.

    need help with mushy foods

I started the mushy food stage today, mostly mashed potatoes, applesauce, pureed meats (no red meat) cottage cheese. But the food still needs to me really mushy. Stage 3 is when I get to have Beans and all the other goodies (1/2 cup max). Can anyone tell me what they are doing for the mushy phase that won't get me chewed out by my nut. I know she is trying to protect me but 4 to 6 weeks of mushy food is going to really suck without some variety. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Mark
  4. I take them but the vitamin really tastes bad to me. I can handle the calcium citrate (4 a day) but the taste of the vitamin is just too much to handle. I had them setup on auto delivery but I had the vitamins and calcium taken off auto delivery today. I am going to look at bariatric advantage.

    Chicken burrito puree

Do you eat this dish cold or warm up the individual portions? This sounds interesting. Thanks Mark
  6. I just had my first followup with my doctor and he was very surprized. He was very pleased with my weight loss. I have lost 18 pounds since the 24th of July but 31 pounds since I started my prep. He told me that I would most definitely meed my weight loss goal with no problem at all. I am still on liquids till next Wednesday and then I can try some pureed foods. I am really looking forward to some cottage cheese and some sweet potatoe. I really miss that. I have been looking on the web to find some yummy recipies and I am looking forward to getting off liquids. I am so glad that I made this decision. My wife is also.

    Beans and carbs

I make black bean Soup, one can of rinsed beans, a quarter cup of salsa, some onion, black pepper and seasoned salt. I put it in my nutribullet and make it a nice smooth mixture and add Water to thin to a soup consistancy. I eat 2/3 of a cup usually and it tastes delicious. Kind of like what you get at Panera Bread.

D Why don't you try unjury unflavored and stir it into your Soup? You get savory instead of sweet and 20 grams of protein at the same time. I also eat the chicken flavor. There are ways to get around sweet.

Mashed potatoes are on my food list, just mix a little protein into the mashed potatoes. I have some chicken flavored Unjury powder that should work great with that.
  12. I have quite a large belly. Since my surgery one week ago though my wife has even noticed that it is getting smaller. I have already dropped from a 48 to a 46 waist jeans. My concern is just how much floppy skin will I have to deal with? My wife bought me some Vitamin E oil and wants me to rub it on my belly every night. I have to stay away from my sutures till they are healed and then I will rub the whole enchilada. Has anyone else tried this and if so did they have success? Thanks Mark

    Belly skin on a man

I have to wait one month before exercise. But I have already talked to the exercise physiologist and she will fix me up. I had a back fusion in 09 so a lot of lifting is out of the question. Hope they can help me out.

I to had pain when lying on my side. I took liquid lortac at night for several nights due to my incisions pulling. It still sounds like gas pain in your left chest, I had that to and hot decaf coffee or tea would help that. For some reason the hot liquid did wonders for me. You might want to try that. Keep up the incentive sprirometer and walking to. Don't worry after abouta week you will be great. Today is one week post op for me and I don't have any pain anywhere. You will to.

The bariatric nurse coordinator told me yesterday that for the first month after surgery you may lose some weight and then gain some back or not lose much at all. She also said that once I am one month out, I will start really losing weight. So don't get too distressed over a little stall. It won't be long till you will be looking fabulous. Trust me.

Everyone please remember that this is a life changing proceedure for all of us. Some family members are going to accept your decision some may not. Regardless of your family dynamic you got sleeved and you can't go back. Think about the reason why you did this in the first place, think about the fact that food was what got you here in the first place. Accept that you will never be able to eat like you did again and accept that other members of your family can. Include yourself in your families doings and eat what you can even if you have to take a protein shake. Enjoy the fact that you are with your love ones and move on with your life. They will get used to it and you won't feel hurt after they realize what you life decision is. Good luck, enjoy your protein. I do.

Stick with the amount of food that you were told to eat and eat in a quiet place with not distractions. Eat slowly and if you even feel full stop. Wait for awhile and if you want eat a little more. Are you using small utinsles? I got me some tasting spoons and shrimp forks, they do a great job. Find some at a restraunt supply near you.
  18. I still like the Unjury products. It is pure hospital grade protein that tastes good. I use the vanilla with milk in the morning for breakfast or I just put it in a cup of decaf coffee. That really tastes good. I drink the Strawberry Sorbet for a snack and the Chocolate Spleandor in the morning for a change with a teaspoon of peanut butter. I also use the unflavored in my nutribullets but I want to make sure that I make them thin enough for my liquid diet. I put spinach, baby carrots, flax seed, walnuts and a half a banana with crushed ice and water. It tastes delicious I used to have that every day before my prep. I don't want to sound like a commercial but I do believe that you get the most bang for the buck with Unjury products.

    July 2013 Sleevers

I've lost a little over 5 pounds in three days and I feel fantastic. I'm not really hungry but when I fix myself something (i'm on a liquid diet for 3 weeks)it tastes good and satifies me. I can't be happier with my surgical outcome. Now if I can just get my big fat belly to quit pulling on my incisions I will be totally pain free. I only have pain when I stand up but my belly is already notcibly smaller so I am definetely on the road to a successful recovery.

If you are experiencing pain and taking pain meds, you must take a stool softner like colace perferably with a laxative so when you do have a BM it won't hurt you. I have not had any of your symtoms but I have only had one BM in 4 days and it was a doozey. I have been taking colace everytime I take a dose of liquid lortab to help prevent any "stoppages". Don't worry just think of what your system has gone through in the the last few weeks. I know that it will improve. Good luck to you.

    July 2013 Sleevers

I had terrible gas the day of and after surgery. It was right under my sternum and in my left chest area. It hurt so bad that it was preventing me from drinking the required cups of Water that my doctor wanted me to drink in order to get out of the hospital. After a couple of hours of big time pain I asked the nurse if they had any hot tea? She did and quickly brought me some. As I drank the warm beverage, I started burping every time I drank. Soom I was belching quite nicely. Everytime I burped the pain got better and I also pressed on my sternum and it seemed to move the gas to the left chest. After a day of burping and drinking hot tea I was pretty much gas free. I still have a little in there but today is Sunday and I think I am ready to do the walking. Wish me luck.

Got sleeved on the 24th and other than minor gas pain, all things are going along well. I weighed myself today 3 days post op and I have lost five pounds already. I am so glad I did this. I know this is the best decision for me and I wish all of you sleevers the same, I will keep you all posted. Thanks for all your help. Mark Thomas, Edmond Ok
  24. I got sleeved the 24th and it went without a hitch. I was in the hospital overnight and got home the next morning about 11:30 yesterday. I still have gas pains but they are going away and I have spent the majority of the day on my liquids. I love unjury protein and all of their products work great for me. My wife is so supportive and I love her so much. She is calling all of her friends and telling them about how well I am doing. So sweet. I think this is the best thing I have ever done for myself. I will keep you posted. Mark
