  1. I finish my program at the beginning of May. I was wondering what is necessary for after surgery. What should I stock up on. I want to start shopping in advance for groceries and whatnot prior to surgery so that I have it. My SO works 80+ hrs a week and we share a vehicle so I want to limit the need for him to have to run to the store for little odds and ends in the first few weeks after. What were your must-haves? What did you buy foodwise? What's your go-to protein mix? Anything you wish you would have known before getting it done? Any advice on the surgery as a whole would be great. Also for those with young kids how did you handle that? My son will almost be a yr old at that point and I'm guessing I wont be able to lift him for the first few weeks so any advice would be great.
  2. My SO's parents live in Langhorne near Playwicki park.
  3. Diet soda is actually worse for you. There have been new studies that have found people who consume aspartame have a higher risk for blood cancers. They also found that aspartame and saccharin cause people to gain weight fast than regular sugars. Honestly there was a time where I said I'd never give up my soda (I used to drink A LOT) but having one from time to time is enough for me. I would at least start replacing at least half your soda with water for a week then cut out another one and so on and so forth until you've cut it out completely. Fit it into one day a week or so as a treat if you really have to have it. Like my surgeon said, everything in moderation. As long as it is within your caloric goal for the day then it's ok as long as you aren't having it in addition to everything else. Just don't make it a habit to have it all the time. LOL I can't completely cut out caffeine. There was a point where I'd prolly hurt someone if they took away my soda/coffee. Years ago I would sit at the diner and drink 4-5 pots with my best friend while we talked. But I find it difficult to start my morning with my energetic 9mth old without at least one cup of coffee. I no longer need it to function throughout the day and it's rare I have more than 2 cups. When I got pregnant I tried to cut the caffeine altogether but the caffeine withdrawal did give me serious debilitating headaches. So I just limited my intake to 1-2 cups of coffee a day and a soda from time to time (usually when we go out to eat).
  4. Caffeine withdrawal can be really bad if you drink it all the time. I personally am not willing to completely give up coffee. I have cut soda almost completely out (I now have 1 maybe every 2wks or so) and I only drink 1-2 cups of coffee in the morning with 1tbsp of FF cream and a little sugar. I try to stick to just meats and veggies when I eat meals. I barely have bread and Pasta anymore. But like PP said my dr also gave me a list of things to try and adjust to over the next 3mths. They gave me a book to go through that I have to bring to each group appointment that I have.
  5. No date yet. My surgeon requires a 3mth program before they will allow you to go through with surgery (even though my insurance doesn't require a program). My insurance requires the normal testing and that the facility is a center of excellence. Next week I have my 2nd group appointment, my mandatory support group and my individual dietitian/psych visits. After I do those I have to setup an appointment with the surgeon and then I should have one more visit before I submit to insurance. I'm ready to get on with it though. My SO and I want another baby and the surgery pushes us being able to try at least a yr out so I'm really hoping we don't hit any bumps along the way. When is your date?
  6. I jsut wanted to say hello since I haven't found many people anywhere near me getting sleeved. I'm using Dr Harrison in Lehigh Valley but my SO's family lives in Langhorne. Good luck of your surgery.

Next time smile, you should be proud of how far you've come! Looking good!
  8. Have my 2nd group meeting, support group meeting AND my individual dietitian/psych appointments next week then I can schedule my visit with the surgeon.

    Negative Boyfriend

I think you look great a and if he can't see that then maybe you should find someone who will be behind you supporting you 100%.

    Truth about carbonation

According to my surgeon soda is fine. He just suggested everything in moderation since there are a lot of empty calories in soda.
  11. You only need about 300 extra calories in the first trimester, around 350 in the second and around 500 in the third. If it turns out to be multiples then you'll have to eat a bit more. That's just a ballpark amount to maintain your weight. Congrats!

    Gay men, dates, and scars

Just tell them you had your gallbladder removed. Gallbladder leaves 4 small scars that look similar to VSG surgery since they are done the same way.

    Keeping surgery MY secret

I am pretty sure you have to disclose all previous surgeries to your surgeon just in-case something happens to you. I'm sure you figure your stomach has nothing to do with your foot but I'm sure there are freak occurrences where something has happened and they need that info.

    Gallbladder Cleanse

Honestly I would look into having it removed. I can't imagine insurance wouldn't cover the surgery to remove it. 6wks after I had my son I started having attacks. Within 6wks it got so bad that on the way to the hospital I was so completely out of it I couldn't really tell what was going on. Getting ti removed was the best day ever.
  15. So I still have 2.5mths to go until I finish my program prior to surgery. I want to know what everyone's favorite brand/flavor of bars and shakes are. I want to be able to go out and buy a sample of each to figure out which I like best but which ones should I stay away from and which ones would you all recommend?
  16. the link is broken are you able to use anything other than milk and still have it taste ok? milk tends to make me really sick if I have more than a few sips of it.

    Any Smokers/Ex-Smokers?

My surgeon requires you quit prior to having the surgery. I personally quit 5yrs ago (after smoking for 10yrs, 2 packs a day) and haven't had surgery yet but it was definitely the best choice I made. I watched my grandmother die from smoking and my grandpa has the worst form of emphysema his doctors have ever seen (he will probably pass soon). Ultimately if you don't want to quit, you wont. The first few days were the worst for me but after I got past that it was just a mental thing. I wanted it more than needed it. Now the smell makes me really sick. If you are unable to just throw the pack out and commit to not buying them anymore try cutting down to half of what you smoke, then in a week cut that down to half and so on.

    420?

Honestly I'm too old for drama. And frankly, no matter what I say you are going to make your own decision so who I am to jump down your throat and tell you not to do it. I think it's funny that people come at others like them telling the person not to do is going to change their mind. They are really just wasting their time and making themselves look like an ass for trying to force their beliefs about certain things on another person. If you don't like pot, fine don't smoke it. This chick didn't ask for anyone to come in here and play mommy or daddy and tell her she is stupid or w/e for smoking pot. She is going to do it if she wants so if you have advice to offer, give it, if you think she's dumb.......well don't speak to her. It's a bunch of grown ass people acting like children and it's kinda sad. This is supposed to be a place where people can ask advice and get answer, not have people act like dicks. pretty, if you feel comfortable asking your dr then I would do that since it's probably the most reliable place to get info.
  19. My surgeon said that the NUTs will tell you not to but he said everything in moderation is fine. Although I have read that a lot of people can't drink it anything because the carbonation makes it really uncomfortable. If you really want it I say try it and see how you do and just make it a treat that you have every now and again.

    420?

If you take only enough to keep you comfortable through the pain (and not more than the prescribed amount) than you should be perfectly fine. So unless you are abusing them it's unlikely you will go through withdrawal. As for your original question I would assume that as long as you aren't doing anything that is going to cause a lot of coughing or make you overeat you should be fine. I know that pot can help with nausea for some people. Personally if I did smoke I would wait a few weeks and then take it easy when you start back up again just to be safe.

    Cost of Surgery

I called my dr office to see what they bill the insurance and I was told they bill 46k. I haven't had my surgery yet so I haven't seen what the total bill would be but that's what they said they bill to insurance. They also offer a discount for people that self-pay and that costs 15k.

    Gall bladder?

Not bad. It's laparoscopic surgery so you'll have 4 small scars from it. I had to stay in the hospital for a day after I had surgery but it wasn't all that bad. I did overdo it when I got home lifting my 3mth old since I'm a SAHM and wound up causing more pain for myself but all in all it wasn't bad. It definitely beats having gallbladder attacks.
  23. Appointment 1 of 5 on Wednesday at 4pm. Let's hope this respiratory infection lets up a little by then.
