Don't worrk, don't weigh and keep with your program. You will do fine. 12 Pounds in two weeks is amazing!
  4. Here's info from the Bariatric Surgery Association: Summary and Recommendations. Substantial comparative and long-term data are now published in the peer-reviewed literature demonstrating durable weight loss, improved medical comorbidities, long-term patient satisfaction, and improved quality of life after SG. The ASMBS therefore recognizes SG as an acceptable option as a primary bariatric procedure and as a first stage procedure in high risk patients as part of a planned staged approach. Based on the current published literature, SG has a risk/benefit profile that lies between the laparoscopic adjustable gastric band and the laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass. As with any bariatric procedure, long-term weight regain can occur and, in the case of SG, this could be managed effectively with re-intervention. Informed consent for SG used as a primary procedure should be consistent with consent provided for other bariatric procedures and should include the risk of long-term weight gain. Surgeons performing SG are encouraged to continue to prospectively collect and report outcome data in the peer-reviewed scientific literature.

    Realalistic goal

I said 200#, (was 423) and they said fine. I guess they say fine as long as it's in a WIDE ballpart. Remember AVERAGE weight loss is just that, an AVERAGE. You decide if you will be on the high or low side of the average. I guess what I am saying is get your head to follow your program and your body will follow and do the rest.
  11. The gastric sleeve does NOT shorten life expectancy. This is ABSOLUTELY wrong, and in fact morbid obesity and the results from morbit obesity is the real killer! The Bottom Line These findings emphasis the health benefits of losing weight. Obesity is linked to dramatic increases in the risk of heart disease, diabetes and cancer. Losing weight can dramatically reduce those risks, as seen in this study. Gastric bypass surgery is an option for people who have not been able to lose weight through lifestyle modifications. Once weight is reduced, controlling blood sugar, high blood pressure and other health conditions becomes much easier. Another outcome of these studies may be the lowering of the BMI threshold for gastric bypass surgery. Until these studies came out, there was no solid evidence that gastric bypass surgery increased life expectancy. Now that that evidence exists, we may see gastric bypass surgery recommendations being made for more and more people.

It's so easy to get discouraged

I started at 423#, have lost over 50 before surgery, and go to the hospital tomorrow. ALREADY I feel better, and I don't care how long it takes, I'll get there anyway... someday!
  13. Follow your Plan. Each plan is different, but you don't want to let your head start to play any games!
  14. Yo Abba!, Since I am also June forth, here in Delaware, I know EXACTLY what you are going through. There is no easy way, just keep focused and think of your next steps, I reckon. We can do it!!
  15. You bet. I watched a number of them (the best is Shawnee Mission KS -- Two MDs talk through the entire thing in real time) http://videocenter.shawneemission.org/videos/weight-loss-surgery-gastric-sleeve All in all appears to be a straightforward procedure!

    Scared & Confused

Here's psuchic help with your decision... Play the odds. Have you been able to do sustained weight loss without surgery? If you can, DON'T do surgery! If you can't, where will you be this time next year. The worst case scenarios happen very, very, very infrequently. Me, I'll be at the hospital the day after you, let's be pals.
