Been thinking the same since I'm at the lower BMI scale. What and who determines "how much" excess weight you have and how is that number calculated. I do know eight charts don't sometimes take into account body frame size. I'm 5"8" 242 and my dad is 6'4" and his mother was 6' herself so we are larger framed and weighing what some of these charts say would make me look like Annie(anerexic). Not a good look.

My surgery is set for may 21

My date is May 20th. Surgery in Houston,Tx. I'm 5 8 and my highest weight 248. Went to doctor today and weigh 242 . The first change I decided to make was no sodas the month of March. Note I've been cutting down on the white stuff, bread, sugar, potatoes, rice. Next get moving. I really have no set weight. My goals are to be rid of medications!! But my surgeon says I will lose about 65/70 pounds. I have been over 200 pounds for 20+ years. I am 45 and my husband is my only support family wise. I have told one co worker, she supports me. I have a gastric bypass friend that is supportive. I told my 16 year old and it was a teary conversation on her part. But I'm determined to not be on these 10 pills a day.

I was really sore the first day. I didn't want to walk.. but I did. This is SO IMPORTANT if u are to avoid bloodclots. This is day 5. Each day the pain seems to subside more and more ESPECIALLY when Ur taking the pain meds. I've been taking my vitamins.......everything except my Protein which I start on day 8. I've lost close to 10lbs post op. AWESOME. For the most part craving food hasn't been a major problem. My soreness is what keeps me in check with the food. I bought this blue lawn chair like chair that allows me to sit propped up.

Great job! Sounds like your doing great. Yeah the soreness will get better. There is just one spot on the lower left side that always is the last to heal. They put an extra tight stitch there, inside. Just be careful. You will see that in a few days or a couple weeks you will have some appetite, or maybe you will be one of the lucky ones that don't. Make sure you walk everyday and get in your Water. Good luck on your journey!

I've lost 10lbs post op

I'm amazed that my doctor submitted Monday and I called today to see if they got everything and they told me I've been APPROVED!!! I WAS SHOCKED. But oh so happy!!! I wish the same for you!!! I have BC/BS TX

Well almost a week out of surgery. Feel pretty good. Weighed in at the hospital at 341lb. Surgery was about an hour.
Was up and moving that evening. A little nausea feeling the first time on my feet when the gas started coming up, but quickly subsided.
Started shakes and a little broth or strained chicken Soup two days later.
I now try to get one shake in over the course of a day, but all the ones I've liked thus far are now nasty to me. Still bouncing around on those. Trying the GNC Total Lean with 25g Protein per serving.
Getting more and more energy. Able to lift 40lbs or so.

Hi everyone!! I was just sleeved on 3/19 and although I'm SO happy I did it, I am CRAVING catfish nuggets!! LAWD! I am starving! I'm glad I stumbled upon this forum!! It's been very informative!!

What insurance company do you have?

I will finally be submitted on Monday! I hope my insurance is speedy about approving me.

Congrats miss lady!!!!!! I called BCBS said they don't have anything. I'm going to check with them again today to see if its in their system and then call insurance coordinator

OMG I REALLY CAN NOT BELIEVE THIS. I CALLED INSURANCE COMPANY JUST NOW TO SEE IF THEY HAD RECIEVED INFO SURGEONS OFFICE SUBMITTED ON MONDAY, YES JUST 3 DAYS AGO. AND I FIND OUT NOT ONLY HAVE THEY GOTTEN INFO THEY HAVE APPROVED ME AS "MEDICALLY APPROPRIATE FOR SURGEY"!!! YIPEE I AM SO EMOTIONAL RIGHT NOW, THIS IS REAL AND ABLE TO HAPPEN. MY LIFE CAN REALLY BE DIFFERENT. WOW
SO SHE THEY ACTUAL LETTER WILL BE GOING OUT IN A FEW DAYS BUT I AM APPROVED!!! I AM JUST.....(SNIFF-SNIFF) WOW!

This just seems so unreal to me I called insurance, BC/BS TX to see if they had gotten paperwork doctor sent over on Monday (yes 3 days ago) and they not only said they had it but that I had been APPROVED!!!!! That was so unexpected but so darn exciting to hear!! I have the Water works going because I am so thankful to know my new life can really begin OMG I am feeling so many different things. Wow Thank you Lord!! 3 days really. The actual letter will be sent out in a few more days but it's approved!!!!
