About Me

I have been trying now for a year and a half to get vertical sleeve surgery approved through the VA. As my original approval date/surgery date approached, I was told by the person who was going to take me to get it done in West Virginia, backed out. Now, he had over a year and a half to tell me and waited until three days before my surgery. I was "primed" mentally and physically for the surgery and couldn't wait to get there and get it done. My daughter had her surgery done in Houston, TX on Dec 3, 2012. I was hoping to be and inspiration for her and instead, she has become one for me. However, the disappointment of having to wait until Jun 13th, 2013, has sent me on a rebound. My older sister, who is 65, will be coming (750 miles) to meet me; we are going to rent a car and drive to West Virginia (ten hours) for me to have my surgery done. Of course, we will stop overnight going and coming back. I am nearly 58 myself. My ex-husband doesn't think I am going to survive the surgery--so, he doesn't want to take me up there for fear of being "stuck" up there. (Isn't that a load of support?!) Somehow, the "let-down" of postponing the surgery has taken something out of me. I don't know if I can get it back, but, I hope so. My biggest fear is when I lose all the weight, how do I work with all the loose skin? I am disabled, so I don't actually "work"--but, surely we lose too fast to lose the skin--so, what do we do with it? My daughter has lost 65 pounds since her surgery. I am so proud of her. She has always been a heavy girl and beautiful--now, she is even more beautiful--but, so far, only see pics from the neck up. I am trying to make all the arrangements and connections for the readiness of the trip and yet, I have no idea what to take with me. I will post photos as soon as I can get up enough courage and gumption. I could use a lot of support. I live alone and stay home most of the time. I would welcome any and all advice, comments and encouragements (even prayers). Until, later, good luck to all of you.
