WLS is the easy way
I had some what of a flash of insight tonight. It was sparked by a thread called Magic Pill.... http://lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=14566 It occurs to me that in fact, the band is taking the easy way to weight loss. I mean, I can't even begin to count the number of people who've lost 50, 75, 100, 150, even 200 pounds with the band. For the first time ever for so many people, they have success. Not only have they lost the weight, but they have kept it off. They have success. For many, it is the first time they have kept the weight off. So, what's so wrong about taking the easy way? Why does it make it better if it's a struggle than if it is easy to lose weight. Is the weight loss less valuable, less worthy of celibration than if every ounce is a struggle like mine? Why do we get so defensive about this? Why must we holler and shout whenever someone says WLS is taking the easy way? Is it because it is less noble than folks who do this withought the extra tools and support that WLS provide? How many people do we have that have lost weight with the band, but never could seem to lose without it? I know tha6t we have many people that have lost and gained weight over and over without the tool. Has it been harder for people to lose weight with the band, than without? It is my understanding that it is easier for most folks to lose with than without. Our friends who've had the RNY or some other GB lose even faster than we do. Doesn't that make it at some level easier? Do we feel on some level that it isn't "honest" weightloss, or do we perceive that the the general attitude of the public? I mean, after all, we all see the magazines in the check-out isle that So-and-So lost 100 pounds WITHOUT drugs or WLS. I would like to explore these with you. Why do we get so defensive about our WLS? Why do we get so defensive about not taking "the easy way" out? Of course, what the hell do I know. I can't even manage to lose a full 30 pounds.

The Band is taking the easy way.
so many of our bansters, our celibrated Rabbits, it really does seem like magic. It has worked almost like magic for my husband, who most definately is a Rabbit. Something that has me viewing eating as a chore many days MUST BE MAGIC. Something that has given me back my life MUST BE MAGIC. Something that has given me back my husband MUST BE MAGIC. In many cases the only difference between magic and technology is understanding the science. Since they don't know exactly why the band work, because they only theorize that because of the way the band is place people feel satiated. This is in some respect the easy way. I mean, I can't even begin to count the number of people who've lost 50, 75, 100, 150, even 200 pounds with the band. For the first time ever for so many people, they have success. THEY HAVE SUCCESS. Friend says it's a magic pill
Wait, bot so many of our bansters, our celibrated Rabbits, it really does seem like magic. It has worked almost like magic for my husband, who most definately is a Rabbit. Not only have they lost the weight, but they have kept it off. They have success. THEY HAVE SUCCESS. And not everyone has struggles with eating around the band. I say if your friend is interested in the band, why are you upset?

Not Happy
Hello OMC, welcome to my life. I'm sure you are doing everything you should be doing, so it's time to take different action. Make an appointment with your doctor and demand answers. You might have a metabolic disorder, you might not. You might need another fill, you might not. Keep your chin up, and keep looking for answers. I know it's hard. Trust me, I know and feel your pain. Feel free to PM me. And welcome to the Turtle Tribe.

Going to work 2 days after surgery?
ROFLOL! I think, even as one of the ones that went shopping the next day, going to back to work would have been a bit much. I was very tired, and slept a lot after surgery. I was out the full week, and I needed it. If you need more days, you need more days, and too bad for your boss. This is a MAJOR surgery, not having a wart burned off.

Is this realistic?
Uhm, well you could be a Turtle. You have to be prepaired for the possibliity that you will only lose 15- 20 pounds by then. You might do everthing "right" and still not lose. There are no garentees with the band. But, if you end up being a typical banster, and not a turtle, you could very easily lose 40 pounds by then. If you don't think that's a lot, go pick up 40 pound of something and lug it about for a while. Please try to understand the bigger pix of this journey, that you life will be changed, that there will be so many wonderful things happen because you've decided to take this road. Don't get hung up on a number.

pictures in my mind
Keri, I don't know what to tell you. It might be worth a look to check back and examine old pix of yourself at various weights, if you can remember what you weighed when. I know that you are rapidly losing weight, so the changes for you are probably dramatic. Maybe if you look at your before and now pix it will help you see where you are going, based on where you've been. You are probably discovering new features, like suddenly the contours of your face are different, that your nose or chin have more definition. Maybe you need to spend some time examinine pictures of yourself with a loving but critical eye, noting the detail and definitions, becomeing every more familiier with your new face. And by critical, I don't mean "if you did this better" but more in keeping with the definition of critical in the art critic sense, in a detached sense.

I normally use Firefox but I haven't had any troubles getting pages. Doesn't seem to be any difference for me in IE or Firefox.

a hole in my soul
Hey Cindy, I agree with Kare <3 Bear. But if you cannot get in your thyroid meds in the morning, you are too tight. If you are having difficulty getting in your Water, you are too tight. If you are having trouble eating 1/2 a piece of chicken, you are too tight. It might be that your calories are just too damn low. I know when I spent a month too restricted that it really affected my mood and my energy level.

What food have you sworn off for good??
Okra. I've sworn off okra. Oh, and raw quince. Okay, it wasn't hard, not even a little bit. Of course, I swore them off way before I got banded. And there's the little matter of quince being completely in-edible raw... okra is just .... ick.

Slow Losers - Unite!
Okay Kryssa, you had 10 bite sized candies. That's equal to what? 1 entire candy bar? But the good news is that you stopped at 10. You didn't eat the entire bag. I eat candy. I never beat myself up for eating stuff that isn't on the list. I still eat ice cream, chips, and stuff. I can even eat pizza. But when I have pizza I will eat 1/2 an individule pizza, not 1/2 a large pizza and the last time I had ice cream, I bought a pint of Ben and Jerry's Marsha Marsha Marshmellow. I had 6 servings out of that pint. SIX. One of the points of the band is to teach us moderation. Not denial. The band is an alternative lifestyle.

My Apology to LBT
Okay, I didn't read the thread, since I don't tend to look at the hospital or doctor threads, which is where I assume this was. Rest asured, that if you leave LBT, I will personally go to your house and drag you back here kicking and screaming.

test results
Well, this is just the first round of test, and there are many more tests to go through. I still could have Cushing's, and there are a whole host of test that they do. If the first group of test come back negative or inconclusive they do more. Thank you everyone, your continued support means so much for me.
