taking a break from LBT--pointless
Since the band isn't working for me, probably won't ever work for me, I'm taking a break from LBT. I'm gaining weight on 1200 calories -- I'm gaining at 1000 calories, and no, my clothes are not getting any looser. I'm down one entire size in a year. I can't do this any more. I can't bare to see everyone succeed where I cannot. Im just beating myself up. I had such enthusiasth, I thought for sure that the band would be the answer. So many people have had such wonderful success, and I thought I too would be one of them. That I would finally be able to lose the wight. Nothing else ever worked for me, and as it turns out, the band didn't work for me either. The definiton of insanity is doing the same thing over and over, expecting different results.

Curious about progress of bandster @ 9 to 12 months out.
I'm at 13 months out, so close enough I guess. Let's see, for my activities for a typical week, now that I'm home. ... I've spent 5 hours doing serious heavy yard work, including pruning hedges and trees, 2 hours belly dancing, plus pilaties and walking, and unpacking bins and boxes from my move home. My food is about 1200-1400 calories, since it doesn't matter how much I eat. coffee, high Fiber cerial, 1/2 a sandwich, sensible dinner. Glass of milk at night. Right now, I'm down a total of 25 pounds from my surgery. Sux to be me.

Ignorant People Irritate me!!!
I've been thinking about this thread for the last couple of days. Two rudes do not make a polite. Civility is the glue that holds society together. Just because someone is a bore doesn't give us the right to be rude in return. I find nothing wrong with being conditioned to be polite. I know it drives my mother bonkers, but I'm pathologically polite. I had such difficulties when I was exhiled with the general level of rudeness. To me it sounded like she was sincerly trying to be helpful. There are somepeople that are pathologically helpful, even when their help is not wanted or warrented.

is someone deleteing large threads?
Well, we have voted time and time against censorship, and when someone deletes entire threads because they don't like where they were going, they effectively censoring the board. I sould have every right to remove my content, but I do NOT have the right to delete what other people say. And when someone leaves in a fit if pique, that makes it worse. No matter what we post, we are contributing to LBT, even if we start a conroversial thread. And when someone removes entire threads, they are doing increadible damage to us all. I know that Leenerbups put in a lot of work for the veggie thread. Is she going to be inclined to duplicate that effort knowing that someone, one a capricious whim will delete that thread and all her hard work? How many people will put any effort to a large project, say compiling all the mushy recipes, knowing that it will be deleted? I know that more than once I've been so bloody pissed off and angry because I cannot lose weight that I've been tempted to delete every single post and thread I've started. Would this be fair for me to do the next time I get angry because I'm a failure? Would this be fair for Paula to do, or Alex, or anyone else to do, after they have contributed? How about when Kathy decides to move on that she just delete everything she's contributed? But not just what she's contributed, but what everyone else has contributed as well? I've put a lot of work and effort into LBT. I take it personally when someone removes entire threads on a whim. Not only have they taken something of value, but they also reduce the level of trust we have here. Why should I bother to spend 30 minutes of my life replying to a thread? Why should I bother to even consider issues worth my time? why should any of us?

Start my new job today!
congrats on your new job!

is someone deleteing large threads?
I think the poster should have the right and option to change their posts, but what other people have contributed belongs to the whole board.

Feeling hopeless and like a failure
Since you have lost 40 pounds in 22 weeks, you are ahead of the game. Excellent work! What were you expecting to lose?

is someone deleteing large threads?
It looks like Kelly's deleted almost all the threads she's started.

is someone deleteing large threads?
I didn't say it was Delarla who'd done it, it's just that when you delete a thread, or portions of threads, it's called "pulling a Delarla." :bandit Speaking of Delarla, you need to send me pix of your house so I can figure out what colors. Also, what sort of mood are you looking for, what atmosphere? My kitchen and living room are deep green because it is very relaxing for me. The room that was my craft room and now my bedroom is yellows and gold. (no direct sunlight) What are you looking for?

Punched in the Solar Plexes
Oh, this is to be expected! Your diaphram is likely bruised, and many bandsters report this sensation. I'm not even going to call it a complication. You organs are not designed to have someone messing with them, so they are still trying to figure out what happened. You've just had major surgery, you now have a medical implant, so part of the issue is that your body is still in the WHAT THE HELL DID YOU DO TO ME?????? mode. Be kind to yourself, you are doing fine. Welcome to the Banded Gentry.
-
Why did y'all remove it?
Hi Kara, the majority of the folks who've had their band removed had serious complications. This wasn't anything that they wanted to do, but it was medically necessary.

Just out of curiosity, is someone pulling a Delarla by deleting large number of threads?

We have the ability to be as skinny as we want????
Heather's right, this isn't about not being able to lose "excess weight" but having realistic ideals and goals. Unless there are underlying medical conditions, I think that we have very good reason to expect to get to our personal real size. Most people do not take into account their fat free mass FFM, which has probably the biggest impact on what we can effectively weigh. We get hung up on BMI charts, which are only guidelines. For instance, my FFM is 140 pounds. That is what I weight without an ounce of fat on my body. At a good body fat percentage of %25-30% I will still be considered "obese." But that body fat percentage is right where I should be. This is why I worry about NewSho. Her BMI is "stuck" at 30%, but I don't know what her FFM is. It could be that she is at a good body fat percentage. I just really worry about you Sho! (((((hugs)))))

We have the ability to be as skinny as we want????
Well Capt'n Jack, at least you didn't get down to 98#s.... Thanks for posting this Fauxnaif! I have known so many big folk who have decided that they are going to get to size tiny, and they won't be happy unless and until they reach that size tiny. And this is from people who are simply incapapble of being tiny. One woman wanted to be a size 6, and she wouldn't be happy until she made it there. But honey, there was no way in hell she was gonna get there... she was built like me, strong, with broad shoulders, but closer to 6' than not. Oh, and if you end up as a Turtle, or worse, like me.... well, you ain't gonna lose very fast, to put it mildly

Spending a week at OHSU
I'll be finished with the testing round noon, or so I'm told, so that would be a great time. More details to follow! As a coming home gift, I was given a half pound of Rwanda Blue Bourbon coffee...

Spending a week at OHSU
Hey Gang, I'll be spending a week at OHSU next week for my Cushing's work up. Not sure where I'll be staying, other than close to the hospital. My DH is the self-designated the tour planner. I thought I'd ask for some referals for some cool things to do, maybe we could get together for something, coffee, dinner, tours of the city... I also was hoping to get some info on the bus system, since I'll be without a car. Which isn't a bad thing, given that I can't see in the dark... anymore. Anyway, I'd really like to meet up with some of the Merry Bandsters.

Real Age Test
I'm 44.2, but according to the site, my real age is 38.4. I need to eat Breakfast everyday, have my cholesterol measured, buy a new car with an air bag, and hire a personal trainer, and I'll be 35 for the next 10 years. Oh, I need to lose weight. Can anyone help me with that? I'm be most appricative! Thanks Paula!

Happy Easter, how did you do with food and candy???
I did just fine. I had 1 small slice of ham, about 1/4 cup of the most yummy potatoes ever, and a nice green salad with fresh oranges. Desert was a small peice of devine lemon mirange pie. I had one chocolate egg, about the size of a jelly bean. I was hoping it was one of the malted milk kind, but no luck. But then again, the band isn't a diet, it is a lifestyle.

One week post op and sooo tired
Hi Molly, I don't think it is lack of food, but the trama of surgery you just went through. I was absolutely whiped out for about a week and a half, and then my energy started to come back. Don't worry, this is absolutely normal. Congrats on your band!

Horseback riding question?????
Hi Laura, I took an 8 week western riding class 2 weeks after I was banded. The only problem I had was picking their feet. Oh, well the other problem I had was when I was dismounting once and ended up getting the front of my bra hung up on the saddle horn, but since you ride English, this shouldn't be a problem. My surgeon was very amused when I asked if there was going to be any problmes with me riding.

Kabeerah
Halla and Kabeerah, would you please share some recipies, oh please?! I love food, which is one of the reasons I'm fat, but I love recipies too, and love just reading cook books. Halla, while I was in Idaho, my only support was LBT. I had no access to physical meetings, and I found that being active here on the boards was just as good as a physical meeting for me. Congrats on your banding Halla
