Moderator and Privacy Issues on LBT
First off, Alex B, I want to thank you very much for providing us with the band width for Lap Band Talk. I for one really appreciate your time and effort, and I know that I’m not alone in my gratitude. The moderators have my thanks as well. Moderators have a difficult job. As the moderator on a small camping list, I cannot even imaging their task on something as large and active as LBT. <o =""></o> I have belonged to other boards that were not moderated, and they were total chaos. I do not want to see LBT unmoderated. I did not weigh in on the censorship thread because I have been trying to figure out what I wanted to say. Moderators are charged with being the editors of this board. Sometimes they are heavy handed, but usually they are not. Editors are not censors, but when they are presented with a post full of hate and vitriol, it is entirely within their duties as moderators to edit those posts. I am specifically referring to the entire mess from that person from Belighter. Not only did she post a terrible attack that I found hurtful and offensive personally, she posted multiple copies on just about every single thread on every topic. The Moderators did their job by removing all but one of these posts. They did their job by editing the hurtful things out of the post. This is not censorship, it is good stewardship.<o =""> </o> I think that if people are truly receiving threatening PM, then we need a policy where those PMs should be forwarded to Moderators. The sender of those threatening PMs should be banded from the site based on their IP. Please don’t think that I am discounting anyone, that is not my intention. My only other suggestion to this situation is the creation of a privacy policy that clearly states what expectant people have for privacy from this site. Alex B, I would be happy to help craft one if you like, or we could use a simple boilerplate policy.<o =""> </o> I will be banded soon, and the support and information I have received here has been so very important. There are so many insightful people here, and I have been able to take in their words of wisdom and words of silliness to help me spark my own journey into the unknown. I know that my posts tend to be a little wordy, but, well, that is par for my course.<o =""> </o> I am totally clueless. I mean, totally clueless. I don’t read several of the discussion boards, because I don’t really have anything to add to some of topics, so I can only guess that the brouhaha happened on one of those threads. Yes, I read some of the postings from the fall-out from part of the ruckus and I know that some tempers were hot and things were said that cannot be un-said. I have read many, many threads, and I haven’t read anything that I could personally construe as an attack, but others reacted to what I didn’t perceive. <o =""></o> I suspect that because people are used to being attacked on so many levels in their lives, bullied about their weight, and hurt people tend to react to things that are not there. I also know that some people are apt to read things into threads that are not there. I know that I have been asked by others if I read anything that felt like an attack, an I honestly couldn’t find what this person was perceiving. But like I said, I am clueless. <o =""></o> Just as there is no expectation of privacy in a public place, there is no expectation of privacy on the internet. We have seen it time and time again where someone sends a sensitive and potentially embarrassing e-mail to a lover, only to have that letter made public to a billion people. Everything we say on the net needs to be thought of as a postcard, especially in a public forum.<o =""> </o> I know that I haven’t been active in the last week or so, but I’ve had several large projects and assignments due in class that take precedence over anything fun.

Movies
My other favorite movie is "Ice Pirates" which will soon be re-released to DVD! WOOT Here is a list of what "Perfect Tommy" Lewis Smith has been doing/has done Buckaroo Banzai http://imdb.com/name/nm0809095/ I'm twisted, I think Jeff Goldblum is sexy, look at he brain on him! I also love Curt Russel, Mel Gibson, and I used to really dig George Clooney. That is, until someone thought a pix of my Dad was George. Eww. Haha.

What's Your Favorite Type of Pet?
No, I had to put him down. The final staw was waking up with my chin in his jaws and him growling at me. It wasn't an easy decsion, but one that had to be made.

Stop the (e-mail) madness!!!!
Is there a global setting so I can stop getting e-mail notification? I don’t want to get e-mails, I just want to read the board.

Anyone else watch Lost?
I've caught it a couple of times and found it very intriguing. Unfortunately, playing “Jr. Accountant” and “My Little Mathematician” require concentration….

Tattoos & Losing Weight
I accedently stabbed myself with a pencil once... I don't have a tattoo because I get bored easily. Designs and symbols I loved 10 years ago is not what I love 10 years before that, and I expect that what I love now I will have out grown by then. I figure I'll get one when I'm 80, that way I'll only have about 20 years to get bored with it.

How has your relationship with food changed?
I'm a food hoarder, but to get ready for my band and the new life after that, I've started to empty out my pantry and my freezer. It is rather stressful to open the cupbards and see then bare. But, I think to work through some of the pain I've accumulated, I need to permit myself to empty out my shelves of food. To not only let the food go, but also what it represents in my past life and my current life.

hoarding clothes
Tonight I was teasing my DH about new clothes. I figure that by the time the fall semester rolls around I’ll have dropped enough weight to become a svelte size 18. If/when that happens, I will definitely need new clothes. Probably not much, but some new clothes. He told me that I will have to get rid of a big whack of the clothes that are currently stuffed into my dresser before I can get new clothes. The thought of getting rid of the “extra” clothes sent me into a near panic. I don’t consider myself to be a clothes horse by any means, but I have a lot of clothes I used to fit into and figure that I will fit into once again. (yeah, a pipe dream.) The last time I lost any serious weight, I gave away all my “fat clothes” but of course, I gained back all the weight I’d lost. I’m terrified that if I give away the current batch of “fat clothes” I will have to go right out and buy more because this band thing probably won’t work for me. (Yes I know, I’m big on irrational fears. But given my history, this probably isn’t such an irrational fear.) So, folks who are facing this same thing, how are you dealing with it or how did you dealt with it? Did you give away all your things with a song in your heart, or are you hording your clothes still? I am a food hoarder, and now it looks like I am a clothes hoarder too.

What is the purpose
I have sleep apnia, and I use a C-pap machine. oh! so have the sleep study! Do it!!! It has radically changed my daily life. I've probably had the apnia for several years but only had my first sleep study this summer. I now wake up with energey, and only drink about one cup of coffee instead of the cups and cups I used to need before I could even think. I would have a terrible headache all day because my oxygen levels drop so low when I sleep. They discovered that I wake up over 180 times a night when I'm not using the C-pap machine. You know it's bad when the techs and Dr are impressed! My system uses room air, but I have an adapter when I need to use O2. The last couple of times I was in hosptial they were able to give me my breathing treatments through my machine, which really helped. You will not be sorry you had the study done!

Pounds Vs Muscle
Woot! way to go! The whole muscle weight thing is why I tell people that the scales lie! Are you keeping track of your inches lost?

beer drinkers?
Also, I think it depends on what you consider beer. Lagers, beers like Bud or Miller, have more fizz than ales. Something like a good stout or a porter is less carbonated than what your average American considers beer. I don't think I'll have much trouble with even something as light as an IPA. Of course, that is as light as I'll go. Of course, Stouts and Porters might be considered a "thick"

NSV - Something Nice Fits Me!!!
WOW!!!! Bright! You are going to be the belle of the ball! You will put the skinny little blonds to shame! Of course, your idea "wear something "flowing" and black, probably with some sparkly beads on it" is right up my alley! Preferably, low cut of course, an the more sparklies, the better!

How many days in the hospital
My DH spent a couple of nights in hospital, but he is a special case. They are keeping me overnight, but I'm a special case too. Most of the folks that use my DR are home that same day.

I'm addicted to the Food Network!
I wouldn't say I was a hug fan of the food Channel. I really enjoy Alton Brown, but he's a total geek, so obvously I would dig him. I've always loved cookbooks, and I've always read them even when I had no intention of ever making anything in them. I have a reprint of an 1800 cookbook that I love. I've never cooked anything out of it, but it's fun to imagine doing so. My husband watches Food TV quite frequently since he got his band. It's pretty funny when he tries to tell me how to cook things. (He is pretty limited to grilled cheese sandwiches and pancakes....)

my very odd sense of humor...
Rickets Synonyms and related keywords: infantile osteomalacia, juvenile osteomalacia, rachitis, vitamin-D deficiency, skeletal deformity, growth disturbance, hypocalcemia, tetany Background: Rickets is defined as the failure of osteoid to calcify in a growing person or animal. Failure of osteoid to calcify in the adult is called osteomalacia. Rickets occurs when the metabolites of Vitamin D are deficient. Less commonly, dietary deficiency of Calcium or phosphorus may produce rickets. Vitamin D (cholecalciferol [vitamin D-3], a steroid compound) is formed in the skin under the stimulus of ultraviolet light. Ultraviolet light was the only significant source of vitamin D until early in the 20th century when ergosterol (vitamin D-2), contained in fish liver oil or as an irradiated plant steroid, was discovered. Ergosterol can be taken orally with good effect.

Weightloss Challenge
267 as of today. (man that was hard.) I'll be banded in two weeks. No goal weight, since I'm not sure that it should be (still thinking I'm too special to have the band work for me...) However, I do want my size 20 jeans (which I can't even squeeze into) to be baggy...
