scared after surgery
yup, every day it gets a little better! As for telling you that you did the right thing, well if it helps, I know I did the right thing, I know my husband did the right thing, and I can't think of a single person on this board who will tell you that they didn't do the right thing for themselves. The first few days are the hardest, but honestly, everyday, in every way, things get better!

cramping?
Jeeze Jenna! No idea what's going on. Have you called your DR? This sounds down right weird!

Hi, I'm Nick, and a little frustrated
Hah Nick, aren't we all good at gaining weight? Yeah, I have to agree that the surgeon's office should know which insurance will approve fast. Good luck and keep us in the loop!

Dangeresque, Dangeresque...
As you know, I've been teasing Penni about being being an internationally renoun super spy and celebrity pharmasist... {Dangeresque, Dangeresque} And because I'm especially clueless, it occured to me that this was a little too obsure for most folks. Sorry about that. This is one of the best sites on the net, IMHO... www.homestarrunner.com This one introduces the fabulous TROGDOR! http://homestarrunner.com/sbemail106.html (I've gotten two different teenaged boys to do a spit take by singing the Trogdor theme song... ) Trogdor has also been mentioned on Buffy the Vampire Slayer... This one specifically deals with the entire Dangeresque theme. http://homestarrunner.com/sbemail106.html You can easily spend an hour on this site!

Coughing/strangling at night
coughing is also one way that asthma manifests itself, as well as sleep apnea. Either way, please get this checked out! (hugs)

pollens asthma and lapbands
Before I had my band my asthma was TERRIBLE, to the point of being life threatening. Over Christmas I spent 10 days in hospital, and was having trouble with a partial colapsed lung. (again.) Not to mention all the trips to the ER... I gained about 10 pounds between when I had my pre-op stuff and my surgery. My surgeon noted it, but when I said the words "asthma" and "steroids", all he said was "ah. let's get you done then." There was some concern that I would have real difficulties with the general because of my breathing problmes, but my pulminologist was there as well, so no worries. This was particularly a worry because just a few days before the surgery, my classmates had to call 911 for an amulance. it has now been FIVE WEEKS since I've used my albuteral or combivent inhalers. (Monday will be six weeks since I"ve been banded) This is a HUGE deal for me. I still use my advair inhailer, my singulare, my allegra daily. But I'm not afraid I'm going to die anymore. Donali told me that my asthma would probably be much better after I had my band installed. I didn't quite believe her because I was soooo sick. But she was right. Kathy, I sure hope you can get your singulare down. I find that a hot beverage, like a nice thin cream Soup, helps to keep my meds from getting stuck.

Just Checking in!
So Penni, is this the international spy convention, or the celebrity pharmasist convention? {Dangeresque, Dangeresqu}

so frustrated by school
okay, it is Friday, and things got somewhat resolved. They agreed to let me register for fall classes, but they only gave me a 30 hour window to register for everything. The second hurdle was the block on upper division classes was lifted too, so I was able to register for all the classes I need for my degree. I got everything I wanted excep for my PE classes. This means that I probably won't be able to get into horseback riding again, but there is always the spring, right? I still have to take calculus over the summer though. Thanks again for all your support! Oh, and the very best news! My DH is on his way to visit me for the weekend!

Lap band? or Gbp?
thanks for sharing Kendra. My buddy is seriously considering the gastric bypass. I don't DON'T don't want him to have the bypass. I'm afriad for him. I know it is his journey. And i know i have to support what ever decision he makes. I'm going to have my DH talk to him about how the band has worked for him...

Any suggestions???
Glad you feel better today! if you find the sports bra too tight, you might consider cutting small slits along some of the band

Trying to decide if I need fill number 3
yup, I agree, if you are losing the 1 to 2 pounds a week, you are right on target! because you are excersizing you are probably more hungry than if you were not working out. As always, please use your favorite calorie counter to track your food for a couple of days. (I like this one : http://www.caloriesperhour.com/ )

partners reactions
My DH was banded before I was. I believe I did the happy dance when he told me he was getting the Band, or at the very least, I danced a quick jig

Question on Food and Calories
For most women, 1200 calories is a good goal to shoot for. If you are training for a marathon or working really hard phyically, you might need more. If you are a couch potato, you might need less.

Put your hands up and step away from the spoon!
Yeah, the steroids do me in too. I equate ice cream with love, or feeling loved. So I'm hosed big time. I find I'm fine, generally, unless I buy the Starbucks Mudslide. And then the game is all over. Where is Greg anyway? I miss him

Any suggestions???
I too find my bra riding on one of my new scars, the one where they put the band in... I just slug the liquid tylenol down

Dinner got Stuck
Hey Mayra, I believe it means she's transitioned to solid foods. Some of us have four stages, some three, it all depends on how you define your food groups. Hope that helps!

Fun Thread 042005
No getting busted naked stories. Although when I as in Spain I did sunbathe topless. Other tourists thought I was German. When I was 20 some cops wanted to bust me for breaking curfue. I had just gotten off work and was walking across the street to catch the last bus home. I was also paying the bus fare for a 16 year old girl who'd spent all her money on video games... The cop wanted to run me to juvie-hall and just would not believe that I was 20. Made me give him my mother's phone number to find out why I was out so late ... After my mom convinced him that I was actaully over 18, he decided that he was going to arrest me for "contributing to the delequency of a minor." He couldn't explain how my making sure that young woman made it home safely was contributing to her delequency .... So he made us miss the last bus home. We ended up catching ride from some meth dealers the young woman knew... Crazy world, crazy world... ( didn't want to walk the 15 miles home )

Lap Band & Meds...?
definately contact your dr and pharmasist to see if you can get a smaller pill or a different compound. I don't have experience with either of those med, but I take meds for my asthma in the eveing. I find that warm things help prevent pills getting stuck. (not a happy time with stuck pills...) Be sure to drink plenty of Water or other liquid after taking the pills to prevent irritating your pouch!
