  1. sounds like you are doing good! I started heavier and have lost around the same as you since surgery so I am still pretty heavy. Better for me but I have a lot still to go. Weight loss is pretty slow, I do seem to lose inches because my clothes can go smaller over time. I seem to lose a little better when I have some bites of carb, it is a balancing act.
  2. You are doing great, nice you are almost to goal. I have lost over 70 since prior to surgery and the sizes are smaller and I feel better but I still have a ways to go because I am just a little under where you started.seems so funny because I have lost so much but still so big though I don't feel as big as I look. have fun shopping!
  3. It is so hard to stay focused when you have so much going on, Try not to go overboard and just have food on the back burner while you are finishing school. congrats on graduating!
  4. wonderful job! fix your ticker to reflect all your weight loss, you deserve it. enjoy
  5. Hi folks, how is everyone doing? the posting has dropped off for most of us lately, wondering what trials and tribulations are going on. I am down54 lbs since surgery Dec. 19th 2012. It feels kinda slow but I am on the older side.. It seems like I lose a chunk then nothing for the rest of the month. It appears like I lose after upping my calories some. I am also wondering if hormonal issues are having an effect. I am in size 16 women's jeans so the inches lost is good. check in people!

    All of my December sleevers...

Things are going better for me figuring out what to eat, they had me eating so little and just protein I think that is why I was having slow losses. I still eat small portions of mainly protein but add some cooked greens, bits of cheese, good fats like avocado, olive oil, Mayo, or some kind of sauce. Still tiny plates of food eaten with a baby spoon. I have also added in a bite of carb a few times a week. Had some tortilla one time a few crackers another. I also have a small protein drink on average maybe once a day as well as a coffee with cream or a cappuccino dry with lots of frothed milk. I am walking on average 6 days a week adding in some up hill for intensity once or twice a week. I lost 5 lbs this last week and have been averaging 1 lb loss a week for over a month. Hoping this is not a coincidence and I've hit on a plan my body needs to lose. The greens really seem to help with elimination and I am not having much. Also water of course. I have now lost 41 lbs since surgery and 59 since sept.
  7. I am almost five weeks out and I just talked to my dietician last Friday, she moved me from 1/4 cup of pureed Protein food to 1/4 cup of soft protein food 3X a day for at least the next 6 weeks. No Snacks, no Protein shakes, no fruits or vegetables unless you can fit a sliver in after the protein. This program never let us have protein shakes. My friend who has been wonderfully successful on a different program is two years out on her RnY says that it is too little food and where is the amount of protein I need? I have been stalled and my elimination hasn't been good. It is tough that all these programs are so different between Doctors and WLS centers. I am okay with continuing with this program if I will be getting the results I want in this weight loss honeymoon period but I am willing to modify it myself if most people's experience has been different. Even among the other WLS surgery centers in this *** this one has a different more stringent program than the others in it's own system. I need to make sure I am not starving myself and stalling weight loss as a result or losing muscle not fat. yesterday I had: 1/2 hardboiled egg and wedge of laughing cow cheese 1/4 cup of shrimp meat with cocktail sauce 1/4 cup of curry chicken salad Thank you for your ideas and views on this.

    All of my December sleevers...

It is just crazy all the different doctors goals when they don't seem to have any standardisation in general. We are all so different ourselves, I went in at my six week visit with my surgeon thinking I was losing really slow but he was happy because I am 51 and he said women of my age dont typically lose very fast. So I have to be careful reading about the 30 something's loses and trying not to compare. I still frustrated that I wasn't given an optimum eating plan for me that I could just follow without having to do trial and error. I still am not eating much, hard to get much added cals and protein in, scared to go too far off the plan by adding carbs as some have done here. I figured I lost about 8 lbs the last four weeks, with a long stall before that but them I figured if I lost 8 lbs a month in the next 4 months at 6 months out I should have lost about 77 total which doesn't sound so bad. I would love to be above average but guess I have to work with all my issues still: age, hormones, tanked metabolism. Lost

    All of my December sleevers...

Yes I am one of the people that has to stay away from carbs, they just stick to me and I gain easily and I think I am possibly wheat and grain intollerant because when I would eat it my stomach would blow up and be distended and uncomfortable. Even just a little rice. People are different for sure. I was kind of surprised that the surgeon suggested ketosis for some people but buring fat rather than the carbs is how I want my body to work to get this fat off. If the body is going to use the carbs instead because it is easy on it I think my body would just stay the same fat wise. I did medifast before and lost over a hundred lbs, it puts you in a light ketosis. My main concern right now is to lose the significant amount I need to lose now while in the honeymoon period after surgery, if I don't lose the bulk of my weight in these early times after it slows down after a year I may not be able to reach my goal. when at goal I can add some more carbs back in for maintenance and health. I am constantly learning and choosing my path every day.

the dietician is calling it the soft food stage- been on since 5 weeks post op and is supposed to go until 12 weeks after surgery. she is not really specifying calorie restriction per se but how much calories can you get in 1/4 cup meals of protein? 3 times a day? all the programs are so different here but most seem to be at least 600 cal a day. I am not really feeling like I need more food volume, I just don't want to lose what muscles I do have and have slow weight loss.

Yes this surgeon was referring to ketosis not ketoacidosis, you are right. Getting your body to burn fat rather than taking the easy way out burning carbs which it goes for first if they are there to burn.

    All of my December sleevers...

Lots of amazing progress here. I have lost 35 since surgery Dec. 19th and 53 since Sept. Would love to be up there with some of you with the big numbers but our bodies are all different and our starting size is a factor. I am still working on adjusting my food intake, my dietician has me on 3-- 1/4 cup meals of protein food a day and that is it. I was averaging 300 cal. and 30-40 grams of protein and have been having slow weight loss but most people are eating more than that when I polled on here and with other friends so I am trying to add more calories and protein. It is not easy because I sitll get really full very fast and have trouble getting any protein drinks down for some reason. So my plan to add a protein drink has not really happened regularly, I still haven't branched out to protein snacks, kind of afraid to have snacks added in like I am going to go too far. My exercise is pretty good, I keep adding in more walking and more strenuous hills and hiking as well. Usually every day. I am considering joining a health club to get more types of exercise in. I was at a Bariatric meeting and a surgeon other than my own was speaking, he was saying that getting into ketosis, eating mainly protein and fat, little or no carbs could help get the fat moving, has anyone done this?

It is good that we are in contact here all having been sleeved around the same time. Although we have some differences do to age, starting weight, etc it seems that most people have had a stall for up to the last four weeks so it must be normal. Now I am adjusting my food and water and exercise up since my. Calories and protein was so low. It looks like I am getting out of the stall especially once TOM is done. Went for my six week post op, Dr. Was happy with my weight loss. : 30 lbs since surgery Dec. 19th and 50 Total since Sept. He said the stall was normal as well.

Thank you for taking the time to post! This is just the info I need to help me feel right about upping my calories and protein . I find I have some trouble getting a protein drink down so I am adding cheese as well. Still haven't added a smack but I may. I think my stall is going but I just got the TOM so that will prob. Slow me for a week. I also have been upping the liquids. Congrats on your progress!

How much have you gained? Please don't lose heart, you've come this far on the journey. I've had to re evaluate what I am eating and drinking. Most of us seem to have experienced a stall. It is good to stay connected here for support. Keep us posted. You can do this.

Thank you, cute as a button and Dana that is just what I need to hear. No it is not a typo, being limited to three quarter cup servings of protein food only I had been only averaging 300 cal. And 30 grams of protein! The last couple of days I added more and I have started losing again. I was supposed to follow the above for the next six weeks. I was so afraid that if I did I wouldn't lose and would Canabalize my muscles. So frustrating not to be confident in the program I have been given. You folks give added confidence for me to modify it a little.

I have been on a three week stall as well, could the folks who are getting out of it post how many calories and protein they are getting a day? I just upped mine a bit , program has me on 300 cal. And 30 grams of protein on average. Walk everyday. Not supposed to have shakes or snacks with my 1/4 cup meals 3x a day. Think it should be more.
  22. thanks for both posts. Yes, It is their program and they told me to eat just the 1/4 cup of protein 3x a day , no shakes, no snacks, the dietician said to not even add veg or fruit right now, It is not possible to get over 300 cal. or 30 grams of protein on that little amount of protein. this is supposed to go on for another 6 weeks at least. that is why I am questioning it because it is so different than most other programs anyone else has been describing. I totally agree with both of your ideas from all my knowledge of dieting prior to the sleeve. and I have been stalled. I am thinking I may have to go outside of their program and at least try adding a protein shake or something. I feel like I am wasting this honeymoon weight loss period.
  23. You look great and have a good attitude. I am older and don't really want to get down to skinny mini because of the loose skin and I like some curves as well and I don't plan to have surgery. People don't like to hear that though, glad you are going your own way.
  24. I don't feel like I am starving but I worry that my body thinks it is and that is why I keep stalling. That is why I am polling here to see if I am eating too little. Most seem to be eating around 600 cal. thanks for your input, congrats on your losing consistently!
