  1. Just wanted to add in an update, I have finally started not just maintaining but actually very slowly gaining some weight back which I am very happy about. I HAVE to continually keep a food journal and have to have at least 2 smoothies a or Protien shakes a day to keep my calories high enough to maintain and 3-4 a day to gain. I've learned how May calories my body has to have to maintain and gain. I would like to address the few negative comments and messages I recieved mostly about working out. When I lost weight it was not to feel better about myself it was to regain an active lifestyle that I was so badly missing overweight and so for me working out is a very important thing it's one of the main reason I had this surgery. I understand that everyone does this for there own reasons but that was an important one for me. For those of you who told me I just needed to stop working out and argued that I was continuing to do it for "control" issues you are incorrect, working out for me is a tremendous stress relief and I did have to modify my cardio and add in more strength training. I want to enjoy my new healthier body by getting out and using it, working out, going hiking, mountain climbing, riding bikes, running at the beach. I did have to learn how to have this lifestyle manage stress and figure out exactly how much calories/Protien my body needs. For the naysayers this does not mean I need counseling or have a problem and for those of you that have the opposite problem and messaged me because you where angry that I was "complaining" about losing weight I was not complaining I was reaching out for advice. I am sorry that some of you are not having the results you wanted and I hope that you are able to get the support you need and figure out what will work for YOUR specific body and lifestyle.

Good luck to everyone on this journey and thank you so much to everyone who offered support and positive advice and encouraging words I so appricate you.

  2. I'm sorry you are having this trouble, as you said it's no fun on either side of the coin...under or overweight neither one is healthy for you.

I just want to echo was Lynda said...adding in healthy fats, calories and planning out your day in regards to your meals should help you get a handle on it.

I also just want to say this. (Not to be rude or stir up drama) but I just want to mention that sounds VERY UNUSUAL for most sleeve patients. At 17 months out most people are just usually hitting their goal weight or they have found a few pounds have climbed back on etc. So to drop 30 lbs in 3 months, well are you sure you don't have another medical condition going on? Can you have a dr. appt to just run blood work and check that everything is ok? That seems pretty worrisome! I hope you can stop the loss and regain a few lbs of muscle!

    Thank you,

I didn't think your post was rude at all, I fully agree that is very unusual. In the last month I have undergone a huge battery of tests, blood test, brain and spinal MRIs, pee test, and next I do some nerve testing. At this point other than being stressed and underweight I am very healthy as far as we know. But I have started food journaling again, and also started a health journal so I can see of there's any trends there that I'm not noticing. Yesterday started a planned menu with 1300 calories, 1500 is a bit much and at this point not very realistic. Hoping to get things under control here soon and get back to healthy. Just posted on here to see if anyone had been through anything similar so I don't feel so crazy, lol. Thanks everyone for the support and help.

  3. Thanks for the advice and support everyone, I was super nervous about posting as i didn't want yelled at by people who are in the opposite position as me. I am so thankful to have just been met by positive helpful feedback. Thanks again, and I'll keep you all updated.

  4. That's a good idea, I'm sure I can add in a Protien smoothie a day. Saw my new doc and nutritionist last week, they where both unhappy with my weight, said I need to gain, but didn't really give me advice on how to. The doc told me to stop working out which is dumb in my opinion. I just worked hard the last year to change my life style and don't want to through it all away. If did switch it up so now I'm doing more strength work and less cardio every week.

  5. Hey Everyone,

It's been forever since I've been on here, but I just wanted to see if anyone else has had this same issue. I'm starting to get frusterated. I'm 17 months out from my surgery and was very fortunate to have had a mostly smooth weight loss journey along the way. A few hick ups here and there but for the most part a very successful journey, physically and emotionally. However right now where I am struggling is with stopping the weightless. It's so weird to be on the other side of this weight issue, first overweight and now underweight. Let me tell you people are just as cruel when your underweight as they are when your overweight! I've had a very stressful last 3 months with health issues with my children the Army moving our family and my husband coming home after a year gone to Korea. With that stress I have found it easier to avoid food instead of running to it when I'm stressed. Now I clean or workout when I'm overly stressed. Anyways I had stalled out at about 140, which was 10 pounds below my doctors goal for me and 5 pounds above my personal goal. However I was very happy with it, a size 7/8 looked great on me. I sat there for about 3-5 months and was hoping to stay there. I upped my calorie intake to 1100-1200 a day and was doing good, till January when I moved and, well life happened. I've tried to keep my calorie intake up but most days I get between 900 and 1000 a day, and my weight is continually falling the last 3 months. I've lost 30 pounds, 10 pounds a month which is my fastest weight loss ever and I am now underweight and way to skinny am I hate it. I am a size 2-4 which is smaller than I was when I was in JR High my husband is not thrilled with it as I am super boney, my ribs are constantly showing and my hips jut out like crazy. He's constantly afraid of hurting, which he accidentally does all the time. It's super frusterating, have any of you ever experienced this? How did you get the weight back on afterward? Any suggestions/support would be super appreciated. Thank you all and I hope you are all still enjoying your journey.

  6. I went through with this life changing surgery 1 year ago tomorrow, it was the best thing I have ever done. It has taken a lot of physical and mental work to get back to healthy. Though this year has not been the easiest with other major health issues coming up it has been so rewarding. I am down 111 pounds with 5 pounds to goal, however, My original goal was 150 and I have meet and passed that so YAY! I am so excited to be moving forward with a new healthier, happier, more positive me. I know there are going to be many ups and downs along the road, much like this last year but now I also know that I can get through anything and come out happier and stronger on the other side. Here is a few photos from my last years journey.post-47169-13838396363253_thumb.jpg

  7. Alright, so I'm finally getting back on here. The Omega I have been taking has helped majorly with the pain I was having around my ribs. Still some but not very often. However the rest of the back issues are still there :-/ not worst or better. I'm just going to keep working on strengthening those fine muscles in my back. I am so thankful for the advice, the rib pain was miserable and now it is nearly gone, thanks guys.

  8. That is great news to hear. I can only find this supplement in 2 places: my cross fit box and online direct. I have never seen it in any store. If you find it in a store, do share. The company has a lock on the price and will not resellers sell itforany other price. The bottle I bought is 59.99 for a bottle. It lasts fora while and you will want to refrigerate it once opened. Mint and vanilla are the best flavors and you can take before drinking coffee for best way to avoid Omega 3 oiliness. I also tried chocolate, but do not care for the flavor. Apparently others do not either at my cross fit box according to me asking around.

Couldn't find it anywhere but online, I just got mine in the mail this morning and took some. Hopefully it will make a difference. I did find a diff. Kind that I didn't buy because I am not super informed about Vitamins. However I found a 45 day supply type at Sprout that are kinda like a gel, it comes in mango, orange and lemon and the clerk said she didn't mind the taste I love mango. It's got 1050 mg long chain omega-3 fatty acids. I will have to compare the two and see. Thanks again

  9. Could also be weakness in the erector spinae. Superman extensions or "swimmers" are great for strengthening those long thin muscles. So is the deadlift and hyper extensions but those are fairly advanced moves that you should graduate to after you're out of pain.

Honestly not trying to diagnose you here but that's what has worked of me in the past.

Just looked up both of these exercises, I will try them. Honestly I am new to doing a lot of exercises/workouts and am super thankful for the advice and suggestions. The instructor for the circuit class after I told her about my back problems has been on top of me about really a making sure my posture is correct so hopefully that will help to. Thanks guys

  10. Taradawn- Your symptoms sound a lot like high levels of inflammation inside the body.

One natural way go take care of inflammation is to take high doses of Omega 3 fish oil. I take 3 g a day (about 1 TSP) to combat information from workouts every day. So far it has worked really well and I have never been side lined with inflammation due to cross fit work outs or any work puts I do at home.

If you wish a more traditional inflammation medicine, then go with ibuprofen or something like that. Everyone in my cross box takes Omega 3 to prevent inflammation that leads to pain. You would be surprised at the rib cage and back pain going away in a few days if you treat the inflammation. At one point (6 months ago), I had daily rib and back pain also.

For the central back pain, do be aware of good posture and alignments during bending exercise whether they are weight related or not. It is very important to be aware of form to prevent this spinal pain in the middle of the back (been there done that).

I am going out to buy some today, don't want it to get out of control and have it set me back after all my hard work. Super thankful for the advice and I will comment back in 3-4 days and let you know if I have noticed any change, I hope I do the rib pain is the worst.

  11. What is the nature of the problem? As an LMT I've found that often lower back pain and stiffness is the result of tight and weak glutes.

I do have some minor lower back pain, I have a lot of pain constantly around the bottom of my ribs and pianist around my central back right by my spine(when I do certain exercises in my circuit class that work on strengthen the muscles in my central back I am always super sore so I know those muscles really need to be strengthened.) also I have pain right under the inside of my shoulder blades.

  12. I could use advice, I've been having back problems. Physical therapist says I need to strengthen my core which I work on in my circuit class but that's not enough. Any suggestions and easy thing I can do at home to build up core strength?

  13. Oh how I envy this schedule. I wish I had a life that allowed such regimented scheduling. I switch back and forth from days to nights every week at work...working every other weekend....always changing my schedule. I pretty much have to plan every workout around all that. So one week I'm working out first thing in the morning, the next week it's late evening...sometimes in the middle of the day or the middle of the night. I've run at 3am plenty of times before being at work at 5. It's not fun but sometimes it's all I have.

Thnks, I am really enjoying getting to have this schedule as I know it won't last, we move again in 3-4 months and who knows after that, got enjoy it while I have it!

  15. One of my other favs is egg whites with black Beans, onion, cilantro and spinach tossed in. After I cook it I add some fresh salsa and it is so yummy and super high in Protein and low fat because I'm only using egg whites. I always have black beans, cilantro, spinach, onion, and chicken in my house. But I am a Mexican junky so I just measure my food carefully and still enjoy my favs is a healthier version. I have a couple more if you need them later. Good luck.

  16. Alright, we'll first things first every Sunday or Monday I cook up some thinly sliced beef and chicken cut into bite size pieces. I season mine with taco seasoning or a chili powder mix, that way it's easily accessible. My fav fast fix is just a simple quesadilla, I can eat 1/2 at a time. I use low carb tortillas or corn tortillas, I add some of the chicken or beef, a spoonful of black Beans, a spoonful diced onion, fresh cilantro and about 1/4 cup cheese. That's my fav and is super easy and fast. Also another good one is a stuffed red pepper. I season ground turkey with a mexi seasoning, cook on stove top, add diced onion, cilantro, black beans cook till onions are done. Cut red pepper in half, stuff with meat mix and if you want top with cheese. I don't top mine with cheese cause I add a bit of low fat sour cream after they are cooked. Cook in over at 350 for 10 to 15 mins. They are amazing add a spoonful of 100 calorie guac and you have 2 high Protein meals. My 1/2 quesadilla with added sour cream and guac is about 250 calories and 12/15 grams protein, the 1/4 pepper I can eat for dinner is about 200 calories and has about equal amount of protein. If you make sure to not use fatty meat and don't add guac the fat is low.

  17. Everyone is diff, I believe following doctors orders is good. However that being said make sure to take your time in each phase and remember its not a race. If you don't feel ready then don't move on, stay in each phase as long as you need. I stayed in the soft food phase for 2 months. That's what worked best for me, my doc kept reminding me I could move on, but I took my time and am happy I did. Glad your doing well so far, nd good luck with the rest of your sleeved journey!

  18. I love Greek yogurt, also I buy the tuna packets that are only 2.5oz perfect for me. I but the target brand white albacore and it is like 75 cents cheaper for each packet. What kind of food do you like? I am a Mexican food junky, which is great because I can make a ton of quick, easy, small meals for myself that are super high in Protein, low in carbs and so yummy. If you like Mexican food let me know and I will give you some super yummy recipes. Good luck
