outrigger42 got a reaction from BeagleLover in 60+ sleevers please help
Thanks for posting this. I cancelled my surgery because of all the complications of younger people on this site. I figured if they had trouble then what's going to happen to an old fart like me. My surgeon told me to really think about it because of my age (59)). I've only been overweight for 2years.(due to psych meds) and he wants me to try losing on my own. I wanted to slap him. If I could lose it, why would I be in his office. I ramble. Please keep in touch. It's so good to hear from another wisened people.

outrigger42 got a reaction from momoftw0 in Is there anyone who DIDN'T lose their hair?
I lost a lot of hair but had thick mane so it's OK. Worse is the fact that 4 months out have only lost 20 pounds, feel dizzy and unable to function most of day. Two patients had same problem but I didn't listen. Soooooo obsessed with not being fat.
I'm close to suicide to be over this. DON'T DO iT!! Before the surgery, I enjoyed life. Now I just hope I die in my sleep or hope a crazy sniper kills me

outrigger42 got a reaction from Gojogo in Gas.... and flying
Hit the send button too soon. It was weeks before the gas made any noise. I was used to just releasing it without noise or smell. THEN I took my 10 yo grandchild out or her birthday. Felt some pressure and let it go. Wouldn't you know, this time it had noise and lots of it. Everyone in the restaurant turned to me and of course my grandchild was in tears laughing!

My surgery was 2 weeks ago. I got out of bed in preop and told them to take out the IV, I had changed my mind. My Dr had to come talk me down. He let me stay 3 days and I was more than ready to go home. Almost no pain! You will be fine!

outrigger42 got a reaction from Max2735 in Sleeve or Plication? Scared to death and nervous.
My mother had the plication and was starving all the time and didn't lose any weight. I've had 10 friends do the sleeve and only one had complications. He had a leak and has been on stints and feeding tubes for 3 months. That makes 20% complication rate for my friends. I am having a hard time going through with the surgery, even though I need it.

Good god Jamba juice is all sugar and no protein! But you have to choose the lesser of evils. Enjoy yourself in as Vegas and return to healthy eating when you come home

outrigger42 got a reaction from Geminidrive in General surgeon label on bariatric surgeons?
You must find out if the surgeon has special training in bariatric surgery. It should be in their bio. Absolutely do not let a general surgeon without training work on you. All of them are general surgeons so can fix any complications. But if they aren't trained in bariatric s you are playing Russian roulette. I'm a physician and see all the complications, so should know

Time to vent and whine. I'm 4 days post op and doing great. But I'm sick of sleeping on my back in a recliner. It's making my hips hurt. My back hurts. This drain is really annoying me. And I am counting down the hours until I can have cottage cheese.
Also getting sick of reading through threads thinking there will be useful information. Only to get to page three and see it dissolve into flirting, sex talk, innuendos of orgies, pointless dribble that they can accomplish through PM rather then hijacking every thread. I get we are all adults. But this is VST. Not sexual function talk... No it isn't my swan song. I'm going to try to help people and look for help here. But just wish the overtly sexual conversations would be in PM and pointless random chatter kept to a minimum. Having fun and keeping it light is all fine and good. But it's really getting old and annoying. Exchange numbers or email or PM. But please stop hijacking all these threads.
Now I'm achy, hungry, on dilaudid, and sleepy. Tomorrow is another day and maybe there will be a new thread with substance.

outrigger42 got a reaction from Ms skinniness in IV complication
You have phlebitis (inflammation of the vein). If there is any red streaking then you need to be seen. You don't have to see your surgeon for this, your local primary care doctor can take care of it.

I know how you feel! My primary doc, the bariatric doc, the NUT, the PA all called me(I'm a doc) to try to talk me out of doing the surgery. The surgeon spent Almost
2 hours with me going over the risks and recommending alternatives. I've followed this website for two months and read complaints after complaints about complications. It is really a hard decision to listen to professionals warning me and the sad stories of complications vs the majority of success stories. I am sick of being the largest person in the room, but am also respectful of my colleagues concerns

Listen to your doctors plan. Remember how much education a trainer has much less how much they know about the surgical procedure.
