Didit12262012 got a reaction from Crt1213 in Low Bmi'ers...how Long To Goal?
This has been super slow for me, I think I just made 10lbs, but I had surgery 12/26, my doctor recommends, between 90-100 grams Protein on soft food phase with about 500 calories... I have been at 172 for 4 days now but also started menstrual on Sunday... anyone, stall during that TOM...? I suppose again, body is adapting. Wish I were losing more, but then again, I didn't want to drop it overnight - this was one of my fears, but there are still times where I feel like... am I the only person in the world this wont work for? I know I didn't have the weight to lose like others, but since we are all Low BMI'rs, responding... maybe some of you can relate? I am only 5 foot 3.

Caramelbaby - I hear you sister... but I just "thought" that by day 10, I would have seen some loss... I am at 420 calories, and 91g of Protein... I know that's a hellofa lot less that preop... so why isn't it going anywhere... the only thing I can think of it's because the body is still in repair mode. IDK... I wanted to hear others thoughts... and yes, I want it to come off slowly but regularly as well...

Hello everyone - I am 188 lbs, 33 BMi, and scheduled for surgery on 12/26/12...
Sometimes I feel like I am crazy - other times I am able to rationalize this move - and then I flip flop several times throughout the day.
I've tried everything... and yes during all of those crazy attempts I have lost weight. NOTHING ever stayed off once my attempt was over... be it injections, pills, WW, etc. It's been a roller coaster - and it makes me sad.
I am looking for honest feedback and input - I understand that my weight is not comparable to others, but please understand that my feelings are... and my self talk is probably the same as the rest of you. We all have our own demons.
Thoughts, input, caution, encouragment... all welcome.

    Hey Guys:
I'm 5'1. My first pre-op weight was 205. The next month, my Nutritionist told me to add "healthy carbs and startches" to my diet, and at my next pre-op appt. I weighed 213! I had to work the next 4 months just to lose the 8 lbs. I gained. I struggled. Finally, at my last pre-op, I had gone back down to 203, and my weight at surgery check-in was 199.5!
I am 8 weeks out, and I weigh 178 right now. I had a 3 week stall. I up'd my Protein to 70-80 grams of protein, and just started exercising last week. My stall broke, and I lost 3 pounds! Slowly but surely, and I have gone from a size 22 to an 18, sometimes a snug 16. LOL
For the record, I haven't had any sweets, or breads of any kind. I thought following my meal plan strictly would promote faster weight loss. I am still sticking to the plan, despite not having the fastest results. I think the lack of exercise, slowed down my loss...Good luck everyone! We didn't put our bodies through this to fail:)

I feel the same way!!!!!!!!!!! surg 12/26 , BMI was 33... I've lost 3 lbs!!!!!!!!!! WTH, my recommended intake from the RD at my surgeon (US surgeon) was 90g Protein, under 450 calories... and I have followed that to a T, and walking 2.4 miles daily... call in with the RD today to go into soft food phase... will see what she says, and report back... I have that same feeling, am I the one person this won't work for, really? Also let me say my ticker is wrong... I have not lost 12 lbs... 3 to be exact, starrted at 178, went up 10 post op due to fluids, got back to 178 about a week ago, since then 3 lbs lost... 174.6 on the scale today...

Congrats to you and wishing you the best! I'm gonna be watching your progress because I'm in the same boat. Keep thinking about this and at the same time trying to do it on my own for the 1000th time and just spinning my wheels. I also have low bmi, weigh approx 190-195 depending on the week and the success I am or am not having! Argh!
I'm 50 and this yo-yo'ing has been going on so long, it's not like it's gonna change.

Like you, I don't really have co-morbidities, but I do struggle with back & neck pain, have had a breast reduction to try to help that, but when you gain weight, those boobs just fill back out and are pulling you down again. I also have depression and have been taking meds for that for 10+ years. Like you said the "self talk" is brutal and demoralizing, whether you're 50 or 150 lbs overweight - it sucks to hate on yourself year in and year out. We also have a history of diabetes in the family (mom, grand mom, aunts)

My husband really doesn't want me to do it and that's what's holding me back. I feel like a failure for being overweight and a failure for not being able to do it on my own. I'm lucky as I know my primary care dr. will back me up and I actually have savings and can afford to pay for it, it's just getting him on board and finding a doctor in the US to do it for me. I know my husband will not let me go to Mexico.

I hope you'll keep us all posted on your progress. All the best on your recovery and getting up and around!

I have not had my surgery yet, but isnt being a slower loser a good thing? I would think it gives you the opportunity to workout and decrease the chance of sagging skin. Thats one of my fears, having too much skin after weight loss.

Carly, I am so sorry to hear about your mother, but I am glad you were spurred on to do something about your health. I had a very similar experience, but it took me a bit longer to decide on WLS. My dad was about 450 pounds my entire life (I remember his waist was over 60 inches). He died in 2003 much sooner than he needed to after having a very limited life because of his weight. I had a lot of anger and issues to work out, and it really helped me to write about them.
I had my WLS in 2011. I spent a lot of time relearning things about what I thought was normal and what is normal (things like portions). I miss my dad every day, but I am also glad that my experience helped me make the choice that will now allow me to be here for my family for decades to come.

I had surgery on Sept 14th, 2012. I did it for many reasons, but the main was that in June my mother passed away. She was 55, 2 days short of her 56th birthday. She was extremely overweight and if she hadn't been then more than likely I would still have my mother today. My whole family battles weight. I have been overweight from the day I was born! I decided that I did not want to lose my life over something like my weight. I made the decision to have the surgery. I have a very smooth surgery. I had surgery at 11 am on a Friday and was discharged by noon on Saturday the very next day. My recovery was easy, no complications other than pain and some ankle swelling that I was given Water pills for. I took 4 weeks off work, although I could have gone back sooner I took the time to heal and really get acquainted with my new lifestyle. I have an amazing support system of my friends, my family, and my wonderful husband. Although my husband can not relate ( he is 157 pounds and very fit) he has never once made me feel like I could not do this. He loves me for me whatever I look like and knew that this was something that I needed to do not only for me, but for our future family. At the time of surgery we were getting ready to Celebrate our one year wedding anniversary, so timing wasn't the best, but then again when is ever going to be the best time to take control over your life other than now??
So 3 /12 months later I could not be happier with my results. I have lost 80.4 pounds since the day of surgery. While I still have another 130 some to go, I know that this surgery not only changed my life but saved it. For the first time in my life I love myself and who I am becoming. If that isn't a great result from this surgery, then I don't know what would be I attached some pics from the day of and then taken yesterday. I can not believe how far I have come in so little time, and this is just the beginning!!

33bmi start - lost all my weight in 5 months - my goal in 6 months for a 22 bmi.
How? I was a vigilante on the carbs. Yes, I agree, they are the devil. Read a post pre-op from another VST lady who kept her carbs to below 30gm a day until hitting goal. She went into ketosis and stayed there. Since I was a self pay for this surgery in the US (big $$$$$) no way was I going to fail again.
So, cut out the crap. Be serious about this and as Nancy Reagan said...Just say NO until you hit goal. You will be thrilled with the results. The less sugar you eat the less your body craves it. Geez, I need to take my own advice,
PS - now that I have let carbs and crud back into my diet, I have regained almost 10 lbs from my lowest. Still under surgeons goal but I struggle. My hunger is back....

I had surgery on 9/10 and was 182 lbs. Today I am 144 lbs. That is about 2,5 lbs per week.
Because I know that the weight loss will slow down - I am hoping to get to goal by the end of March.
I am 5'3 and have an apple shape.

Lovetennis - thanks for contributing... my story is a lot like yours, and just to touch on the killing myself slowly with all the little things... I meant diet pills, supplements, shots, etc, etc... etc... NOT twinkies.
I respect everyones opinions and as much as we share here - I think only "we" truly know all the rigor we have put ourselves through only to have another failed attempt and a larger weight gain.
Many prayers for all on this site - I respect each and every one of you.
