No pre op diet required
I didn't have to do one- thank God! I am three weeks out on Monday and all is going very well! Good luck on your surgery! -Kendra

How do you not go broke?
...buying clothes to replace the ones that are too big? I was just sleeved 12/17, but I am almost 40 lbs down from my starting weight and my clothes are seriously baggy. My underwear falls down. I guess what I need to do is go through ALL of my clothes in hopes of finding a few things I may have grown out of before. I have no problem going to a thrift store, but we all know how hard it was finding clothes that fit in a place that sells new clothes at our old weight, and thrift stores are so hit-or-miss. Any suggestions? -Kendra

Time off after VSG
I took off 2 1/2 weeks, but could have gone back to work after 1 1/2. After about the 5th day after surgery, I felt fine. I just went back this Wednesday night (I work 3rd shift). -Kendra

before an after
Looking good!

Nurse told me I am not losing enough?
WTH is wrong with some of the morons who work at these places???? Why the heck would she say something so ridiculously WRONG? I was sleeved 10 days after you (12/17), and I lost 14 lbs the 1st 2 weeks. I was told it was perfect and I was right on track. When I was weighed I was pretty much stalled, but when I switched to the pureed diet, I added some new foods and I seem to be losing again (SO much fluctuation during the day). Seriously, you cannot take that kind of idiotic assessment of your weightloss seriously. I don't care who told you. It's ridiculous. I bet once your constipation is resolved, the scale will move back down. You're doing fantastic! -Kendra Start: 302 SW: 272 Today: 254

Don't fool yourself and think "it's just gas".
OMG that happened to me the day after I came home. In my own defense, I had no idea. Before surgery, it was just a fart. Hasn't happened since though. I learned my lesson!!!! -Kendra

not eating enough
Can you add SF fruit preserves with splenda to taste to the yogurt? It's seriously delicious- I have had strawberry and blackberry- Smuckers! -Kendra

fell off the wagon!
I think that it's all in the planning. Set aside a couple hours and make yourself healthy food for the week, and make it available and easy for you to heat up quickly when you have the urge to just grab something unhealthy. That's my plan of attack to stay on track (no rhyme intended). So many times we grab things and eat them for convenience sake. Good luck- 1 lb is SO reversible. -Kendra

I'm overweight!
Congratulations- I can't wait to be overweight! -Kendra

Was it just me?
No, not me...but I was sleeved on 12/17, not even 3 weeks ago, so I literally can't, but there's no saying I won't be in your boat next year- just get back on track- after wht you've lost, 3-5 pounds is nothing- you've got this! -Kendra Starting: 302 SW: 272 (12/17) This morning: 255

Gummie Multi Vitimans...Thoughts anyone?
They are not "complete" Vitamins. They don't have some minerals that you need that the other ones provide. This is what I was told just today at my post-op. -Kendra

Who knew?
I ate it with my baby spoon and so far it is sitting well! I had my 1st post op today & found out I can have fruit now- bought some diced frozen strawberries and they will be going into a yogurt smoothie later. Purees open up more possibilites than I imagined! LOL -Kendra

Who knew?
Progresso beef stew soup- pureed is the best thing ever!!!! OK, can you tell I have been on the liquid diet for 2 weeks???? Yeah, that's me, -Kendra Starting: 302 SW: 272 Weight this morning: 257

I am 6 months out and I think that I messed up my sleeve:(
I was under the impression that eating a little more after a while is normal. I thought I read somewhere that you should be limiting your portions to 4 oz no matter where you are in your journey, otherwise you may stretch your sleeve. I mean, really, how much are you eating at a time? Also, do you feel hungry? -Kendra

Freaking Out
I wouldn't say I was freaking out, but definitely extremely nervous. Everyone at my surgeon's office was like, "Are you so excited?" I was like thinking, no, not really...I was focused on the procedure itself and the recovery- not the most fun or exciting thing. Two weeks later I am happy I went through with it. Good luck- you will do great, it's a very safe surgery! -Kendra 15 lbs lost since surgery 12/17

Visiting my local urgent care
I was coughing up gunk for like 3 days after surgery- I didn't have a cold or anything- the dr's office told me it's normal after being somewhat inactive for awhile. I didn't get a whole lot of walking in- I slept almost the whole time I was in there- could not stay awake! I also caught a lil something a few days after I got home and coughed quite a bit- and I am OK. -Kendra

Bad Taste
I just keep brushing my teeth- for me it has a "rotten" taste. It's gross.

Is it just me?
My 8 year old told me my tummy sounded like a "dog". I'm assuming he meant the growling. LOL! It hasn't been growling much lately, but around day 5-6 it sounded angry! -Kendra

Rate the pain post op 1-10.. And why?
I don't feel mine was above a 5 the whole time- by day 5 it was a 1-0 and by day six I was off of the pain meds competely. I think I have a relatively high pain threshhold- I had a c-section with my son 8 years ago and had minimal pain with that. They gave me a script for percoset on release from the hospital that I never even filled. I kind of wish I had- love those meds- they are truly happy pills LOL -Kendra

Food dreams
I was sleeved on December 17, and so far now 2 nights I have had dreams where I am eating gobs of food. And it's always pizza. Whenever I was on a diet in the past (wow, too many times to count), I would also have these pigging out dreams and wake up in a sweat becase I thought I had ruined my diet. Is this pretty common among WLS patients? I am stll on the full liquid diet, btw, until at least Monday, which is my 1st post-op. I am doing fine on it- no slip-ups. -Kendra

6 Weeks Post Op Before and After Pic...
OMG, you go! Looks good!

Should I be worried?
So do you still have the pleural effusions? That could be what's causing the breathing issues. Do you still have diuretics prescribed? I would say that you need to take it really easy and take as much time off as possible. Once your poor wet lungs are resolved, you should feel much better. I am a soon-to-be Respiratory Therapist, so breathing issues like this really get my attention. Also, keep using your incentive spirometer. It can be a pain, but its very good for keeping further surgery complications from happening. Good luck!!!! -Kendra

11 days post op and I've lost only 4 lbs...
If there's one lesson to be learned that will save you a lot of stress- NO ONE IS TYPICAL! Everyone is different and some people will lose faster than others. Please don't compare yourself or your journey with anyone else's. I am almost 2 weeks post-op and I am down about 13 lbs from my surgery date. My first post-op appt is Monday the 31st and I can pretty much assume I won't be down 20 pounds. I had the same post-op diet as you to the letter. Good luck and please hang in there- you're doing great!!!! -Kendra

Dec. 17 Sleevers - How are you on week out?
OMG that's so funny- I have also been just smelling foods that look so good to me- I have to have SOME part of it- at least smelling it is safe! LOL! -Kendra

Feeling full?
This is a great idea- thanks!
