    Lost Food Desire?

I am just over six weeks since surgery (11/28/12 i was sleeved). Lately I have no desire for food, I feel hungry but when I start to eat I just loose interest. Is anyone else feeling this? I eat, mostly because I know I need to. I am just not at all into it, nothing really tastes good and I feel like I am going through the motions but not enjoying it. I guess it's ok since I have had such a long term relationship with food but admittedly it would be nice to at least enjoy what I am eating. I hope this will get better.....any thoughts???

    70 pounds in 5 months

    Welcome

Hi AmyR092, Good luck to you on this journey! While I won't lie to you it will not be easy, it WILL be worth it. I was totally scared and freaked out leading up to my surgery and for a bit right after surgery.......but now, now I would not change a thing. I could not be happier about my decision. The pre-surgical weight loss will be tough but really try to stick with it, seems silly to loose weight to have weight loss surgery but it really does help! Hope you find answers and inspiration here.

    Welcome

Hi, Don't get too stressed out. It seems to come and go, seems like sometimes your body needs to catch up. I am 5 months post op and have lost 72 pounds. Some weeks for me have been better than others as far as weight loss. Try not to get too focused on the scale. I weigh myself every 2 weeks now, also many weeks I noticed the weight loss through my clothes not on the scale. This will and does work, try to keep positive. It's hard but it is working, give your body some time to adjust. Hope this helps a little.
  5. Going through this incredibly tough yet rewarding experience has shown a bright light on some things I was in denial about!! So much of my eating prior to this I now know was mental or habit and NOT hunger. Now, not having those "hunger pains" we have all come to know and love, I realize how much I reach for food/snacks simply out of habit and not at all for hunger. It's so strange to think I ate and ate even when I didn't "need" to just because it was so habitual. So rewarding to know I now have the tools and am equipped to fight this addiction I have before refused to even admit I was suffering. My biggest weakness is/was bread and the fact that I have not had it in 2 months and do not desire it is so freeing!! Our biggest battles now are convincing our brains that we don't need that extra bite/piece and listening to our bellies telling us we are full. I try to remind myself as I am eating, when I get that "full" feeling, that the food is not disappearing and I can eat it again later or another time and I do not need to stuff that extra piece in now. It seems silly but I know now that that is basically how I was feeling that the food was going to go away and never come back, so I better eat every bite now. Leaving food on my plate was CRAZY to me.....now I smile at it and relish in it =). Looking forward to more and more "doggie bags" in my future!

YaY!! I know how exciting the pants thing is....I had the biggest smile when I was able to wear them, in fact now I have 2 old pairs that fit again. Zumba was great this morning, felt good....the fact that I could do it at all was awesome!!

Panera Hidden Menu is Protein WOW

Wow!! I had no idea, thanks for sharing. I have a Panera right up the street.

    Healthy nachos!

Yummy!! Thanks for sharing...I will definitely have to try that =)
  10. I have the flinstones too, not my favorite but I just deal with it. I did not find anything good as far as protein is concerned. The shakes I loved pre op but post op not so much. I did get some mix from GNC but it was horrible, so don't do that!! Most important after surgery is staying hydrated so whatever liquid you can tolerate will be your best friend. Once you get to smooshy (that is the technical term LOL) food then you have more flexibility.
  11. Hi RedCardinal, What kind of products are you looking for? After surgery while on the full liquid diet all I could tolerate was the Carnation instant Breakfast with skim milk, the Protein shakes did not agree with me, but everyone is different. Do you have your Vitamins already?

    Hi Boston Sleevers!

Hi All, I was sleeved on 11/28/12....also at MGH w/Dr. Meireles. I am down 43 lbs. so far and SO HAPPY! Still struggling getting the required amount of fluids in each day, but I'm working on it. How is everyone else doing?

How does this not slow down our metabolism?

From what I understand.....and I am no expert.....but after surgery (I am 7 weeks post op) your body will get the additional calories from the fat we have been storing. Once you level out then you will require more food in to maintain your own calorie intake. Immediately after surgery, however you have plenty of calories in your fat storage to sustain you.....the only focus really is on liquid to stay hydrated and some protein so your body will eat fat and not muscle.....hope this helps?!!?
  14. I feel like I am drowning myself!! I am starting to believe that getting in a full 64 ounces of fluid a day will be the end of me. Anyone else having this problem? I have been struggling with this since the begining. I finally bought a jug that is exactly 64 ounces.....I needed a visual aid of exactly what it is because all the cups and water bottles I have were different sizes and it was starting to confuse me. The jug arrived last nigh and OMG is this intimidating!! I know for sure I was not getting this amount of fluid in, not even close! I have been working on this jug now for 8 hours and I am only to half....half....UGH. Please someone HELP.....sincerely, drowning!

    Sipping, Sipping....oh yeah, more Sipping!

Thanks for the suggestion....that's not a bad idea. I know it will improve, eventually. Right now it's just such a struggle!
  16. Hi, I am from MA. Had my surgery on 11/28/12 @ Mass General. I am sure Mt. Aubrun will be great! I am only 7 weeks post op but happy to answer any questions you might have or just offer general support!! Where in MA are you? I live in Marlborough and work in Charlestown. There have to be more of us here!!

    Birth controL

I stopped them as well and was told by the hospital staff not to take them for 3 months. During my 2 weeks check up with my surgeon I was told that I could go back on them once my next cycle started. So I was only off them for a little over a month. My suggestion would be to talk with your surgeon and even your gynecologist, they may have better answers. I have had no complications so far with my birth control pills and I am 7 weeks post op.

    Waiting

I know this post was a while ago but I hope you are feeling better? I hope you got the cpap machine, I know several people that have one and say it's the best sleep they have had in a while. waiting does suck and causes our stress to elevate which I know for me used to lead to more eating. I hope you are able to manage that stress better than me, but if not....don't beat yourself up about it. You are here which is already a great start. I did not find this website until just before surgery, which I had known about it sooner....would have helped with some of my anxiety about surgery and what to expect. Wishing you all the best and hoping to hear from you soon!

    Lost Food Desire?

I have actually had a few things in the last few days that I did enjoy! I think it was just a transitional thing and maybe some food boredom. I have been enjoying my workouts quite a bit, which is great! Good luck on Thursday!! Try and remember your first night home from the hospital is the worst and you will not feel great....but I PROMISE each day after surgery (once you are home) will get a little better....each morning you wake up will be a little better than the morning before. Sip SLOWLY. Don't worry about your energy, your body is still technically getting all the calories it needs each day, it is taking the calories it needs from the fat you have been "storing" all these years!! I am putting protein in each day not for calories but so that my body will take the extra calories from my fat and not take protein from my muscle. We want our bodies to attack the fat. The most important thing after surgery is to get your fluids in, you have plenty of "fuel" (calories). You DO NOT want to dehydrate, drink, drink, drink. I wish you the best of luck, you will not regret this at all!!

    Welcome

Hi Truckerchic! Congrats on getting things moving with surgery! I have not one regret about having this surgery. I am almost 7 weeks out and already feeling better than I have in a LONG while. Don't worry about the 6 months....it will go faster than you think and prepare you for all of this. I wish you all the best!!

    Lost Food Desire?

I agree totally that food should be fuel and I am comfortable with that. I just feel like even when I try to eat anything right now there is no interest. I should be getting my required proteins in and most times I just don't want to eat anything at all. I have been given the same information as you about being careful not to replace our food addiction with something else....so far so good for me. Just wishing I had some desire to eat...I'm sure it will get better eventually.

    Welcome

Yes, I was required to loose some weight prior to surgery. Mostly to help shrink the liver to make the surgery easier for them. I was put on a pre-surgical diet, that consisted of protein shakes and frozen meals (healthy choice & lean cuisine)...ohh and some fruit. Admittedly I was starving but I knew what I was headed for so I did stick with it.

    Welcome

Hi! I was sleeved on 11/28/12. I started out at 321 lbs. Now @ just over 6 weeks I am 281 lbs. and SO EXCITED. Not one regret for me, this was the best thing ever did for myself. I am starting to work out, even though it's tough and I am sore, I am determined to stick with it!! My biggest struggle is getting the required amount of liquid but I work hard at it every day. Looking forward to hearing and sharing with all of you!
  25. I was sleeved on 11/28/12 and am down 40 pounds now. I worked out 2 days in a row last week and was so sore for the next 4 LOL....I am totally out of shape. It did feel really good though so I am sticking with it!! Right now for me the food is the biggest issue, I just don't really even feel like eating, nothing looks or really tastes good. I do it because I know I have to but I have no desire to. I am still struggling to get in the required amount of water/liquids. I feel good, no real complaints I am confident the food thing will get better, eventually!
