mattsbelly got a reaction from JerseyGirl68 in How do you not cheat on your pre op diet?
I got a letter in the mail from my doctor saying to start in x date. X date happened to be the next day. At that point I wanted the surgery so bad I didn't care. I did eat a meal after about 7 days but I still had 7 days to go. Only the first few are tough. Once you get used to not eating, which takes a few days, it's no big deal. After the surgery it's even easier not to eat.

mattsbelly got a reaction from Arts137 in Whats it like being under and waking up from surgery?
Waking up sucked. There were like 5 thousand people moving me hooking me up to things, trying to get me to talk. Imagine waking up and everyone is going a thousand miles an hour and you're going 2 I remember being wheeled down the hallway and the nurse squeezing something into my IV and saying your going to feel really good in a minute. I said back "I'm staring to feel great" next thing I know I'm being woken up.

mattsbelly got a reaction from nsquared in Clothing expenses after surgery
If you went up in weight you should have those clothes. Otherwise target is a good place to buy inexpensive clothes. I have smaller clothes but shop at target if I need something. No brand names yet.

mattsbelly reacted to gamergirl in Progress at 2.5 months with pics.
I'm so embarrassed by my before pics and I'm not even half way yet, but thought I'd be brave, and share where I'm at. I'm 5'6, HW 230, CW 195 so 35 lbs down.
Went to see my PCP. The whole office gets excited when one of us has an appt because we usually accompany each other, and they're DYING to see our weight loss.
The doc said my husband and I had already had more success than some of her sleeved patients EVER see. That was a sobering thought and should scare us all into being diligent.
She congratulated us on being so proactive about it and said that our focus on health and activity was good because the people who put it back on are invariably focused on a short-term goal like fitting into a dress or going to a reunion.
She ordered me to stop obsessing, stop being as type A as I was, and to cut myself some slack. So I will try And my thyroid meds were reduced for the second time since surgery. Yay!
Ok I've blabbed long enough to delay posting my picture but here it goes.

mattsbelly got a reaction from DeezJeanz in 6 month pictures
First picture is from August of 2012 when I decided to have the surgery. I was at my biggest at 406. The second picture is from Saturday after my sons football game, almost 6 months to the day from my surgery(3/4/13). I weighed in at 287. My wife was tired of hearing me complain that I didn't think I lost a lot of weight. Now I see it.

I had to pay. Insurance would have covered the cost of a panniculectomy if I had complications due to the skin.
But man it was worth it.

Awesome job! It's amazing how we don't see the transformation in ourselves unless it's pounded into our heads! A couple people didn't recognize me and I asked my husband if I really looked that different. He said, "honey, sometimes I don't recognize you in a crowd of people"!!! Keep up the great work!
