maharet111 got a reaction from Fiddleman in Pre workout meals
Hmmm this is interesting. I was having a conversation with another co worker who is a workout freak and he was telling me that his regimen before working out/lifting is oats with either some fruit or organic raw honey. I thought that meal sounded really heavy before working out but didn't think of eating it earlier.
I usually do half an apple with nut butter or I might do greek yogurt with some home made granola in it.

The last 20-30 lbs are tough. Your body needs extra help to get past set points. Try really increasing the intensity of your workouts. If you run, start running 5-10 k to burn a large amount of calories. If you lift, start to lift to fatigue. Really push yourself. Make your body work! It is worth it!

Hook grip worked great today (trainer even showed it before I asked about it). I got a PR on my dead lift at 350 for 1 rep test today. Funny thing, it does not feel that heavy in my gluts or upper legs. My back strength is where I am holding back. Need to keep my weight way back along with the slight invert in back. Once I reached failure, no matter how much I visualized correct form, the execution of it sucked because my lower back did not want to support it. Oh and no white fingers. However, I got the usual delayed blood rush after lifting heavy 5-10 seconds following lift). It is quite interesting where it is almost like fainting, but in a good way.

Well since you have new clothes and a trip is out and assuming you want to do something different to Celebrate..how about doing a volunteering activity? Like maybe do something with your church or the Animal Protective League or a food Bank?
I regularly volunteer and find it really rewarding.
Although I am not going to lie, when I hit goal I am taking a trip to Italy or Ireland!

Girl...remember..the scale is just a NUMBER..it doesn't define you! The last month since I have increased the amount of exercise I am doing and the amount of calories I am eating I have bounced around the same 2 pounds each week with no real loss.
This morning I woke up..bam 2 pounds down. You are doing great! Keep that workout going..you will be so glad you did!

maharet111 reacted to Fiddleman in starting to get some arm muscle
The best part is I managed to maintain a weight at 175-180 for my 5'11" frame while at the same time leaning out and increasing muscle. It is a careful focus on nutritional balance of good fat, good carbs and high Protein daily. Additionally, i am constantly researching on how to optimize (results versus time / effort) in addition to consistent full body strength training 5 -6 days a week for an average of 1 hour a day including warm up, stretching, cool down and roller work. I do not have the patiance for working out longer then 20-30 minutes at a time,so try to make that count with the type of exercises and intensity / focus). Thanks everyone for your help along the way. It is a process, but is getting easier. Mark, Aroundhky, BTB, Tally, Maharet, and others who regularly contribute on the fitness thread are my role models in addition to long time vets ( do not mean to exclude anyone, but these folks are consistently answering my fitness and nutritional questions). Keep up the good fight everyone. It is so worth it!

maharet111 got a reaction from Banned member in Share your "slow loss" success!
I agree with you Cheri..I do sometimes get depressed when I read posts where people have lost 90 pounds in 2 months..but I am learning it is all perspective. I refuse to characterize myself as a slow loser..I am A LOSER..PERIOD. I am 5 months out and 52 pounds down..whether that makes me a slow loser at an average of 10 pounds a month, I don't really know.
After years of Yo Yo Dieting and the euphoria/depression that comes from losing/gaining weight..I prefer to surround myself with positive reinforcements instead. My weight is just a number, like my driver's license, my social security, my employee ID..it doesn't define me. I use Sticky Notes to give myself an affirmation each day..yes I know it sounds corny but it keeps those mind demons at bay..ya'll should know about those mind demons!
I look to things outside of the scale to keep me moving..like when my trainer ups my workout, or when my niece tells me my belly doesn't jiggle (got to love 4 year olds)..or when a guy on a motorcycle tries to pick me up at a red light! I guess my point is..a number is just a number..if you let it define you, you will be a slave to it. So pick other ways to define you and your new body!

Soooo am I the only one who thought the poster was kidding about the source? I thought it was like a play off of my post..
I do sometimes have gullible moments!!!
Regardless..I agree with HK's post. I have been following the low carb, high Protein diet but when I took a step back and looked at the crap in that diet it is no wonder I am stalled out here. I am eating Protein sure, but not the right kind of protein and I still have sugars sneak into my diet.
I actually just ordered the 21 day primal transformation workbook by Mark Sisson..worth a try and I know my body and the times I have been the most successful has been on a balanced diet.

Sleeved 2/12/13..down 56 pounds..been in a bit of weird stall the last three weeks..I bounce up and down the same two pounds. But the clothes I bought a month ago are too big now so there is that.
I am also changing my diet up to incorporate more calories as well as fruits and vegetables too.

I agree that right after might be hard because of limited calories but talk to them, they might be able to do some tailoring for you.
I found out how weak I am today! Workout was:
    4 rounds of
    500 meter row
    5 knees to chest
    10 push presses
    20 squats
We added five pounds to the 25 pound bar and I freaking struggled with each set..arching my back etc..blah
At least I am getting deep on the squats!

maharet111 got a reaction from Fiddleman in What to look for in a personal trainer?
I went through about 5 interviews and a couple of workout sessions before I hired my trainer. For me it was also important for me to click with this person, both on a exercise level and a personal level. What I was looking for also was someone who would't just put me through the motions, say good job and send me on my way. I wanted someone who would challenge me, test me on movements, and who can also adapt workouts for my scalability.
Take the time to find a good one. Find one who watches how you move and how you can improve. Make sure that you feel comfortable talking to them about almost everything. I have regular discussions about how to reduce my bat wings with my trainer. He also "teaches" me and regularly quizzes me on things like.."Why are your hands outside your knees on deadlifts" etc..
You won't regret finding the right trainer and I WISH I paid 50 to 70 bucks an hour. I pay 40 bucks for a half hour and he is worth every damn penny. I tell him regularly that he is my quit smoking money lol since I pay him out of the funds I have been saving since quitting smoking.
