  1. yes we all know about the dreaded pre op diet.. its very hard im not gonna lie.. but you need to be on it to shrink your liver so that the surgery will be easier for the surgeon. and after wards.. you wont give a crap about food lol.. sorta nice that way.. my prob now is.. I have to eat? Im not hungry. you will be fine after a few weeks.. then you will be able to pick up the kiddos.. doesnt mean you have to stop hugging them or let them sit on your lap but to be careful of the incisions.. hug them sitting down or hug them sitting next to you.. it will be all good.. you are making yourself more healthy for them.. to keep up with them.. to live longer and be medication free.. I was so scared.. and nervous. then afterwards.. I was relieved everything was ok.. I was ok... and just remember.. protein protein protein.. fluids fluids fluids.. walk walk walk.. I was sleeved dec 20th..and not one day has passed that I have not regretted doing this.. ive lost 40lbs and I have 103 more to go..and im well on my way.. to a new me.. Im getting a do over and im not going to mess this up for anything.. its my 2nd chance.. and im gonna take it by the horns and run with it.. you will be great.. everyone is nervous.. only natural.. best of luck to you and keep us all posted here.

yes exercise will be a key factor.. and true you are starting at a lower wt than most of us here.. so it will be slower for you.. but keep up the good work..and welcome to sleeveland. Ive not hit a stall yet.. but im sure that is coming and that will be normal.. so ive been reading alot here and sorta know what to expect and what is semi normal... so it helps hearing about everyones experiences.. but keep up the protein thats so important.and the fluids.. it will come off.. even my doc says so.. lol

I dont ever weigh until I go to the doctor.. then im like so totally suprised and happy.. .. maybe if you just weighed once a week. or just waited til the doctor appt..

    My insecurities

I too have the same insecurities.. Im so afraid of gaining wt.. Im post op dec 20. Im down 40lbs.. for which my doc says is excellent.. but I dont see the change when I look in the mirror.. even tho my hubby says its a huge change.. you can see his wt loss also.. he did his a week later than I did.. and he is down 39lbs.. he is already looking skinny.. My wt loss goal is to lose 150lbs.. and they asked me if I didnt lose that much and would I be happy weighing 170lbs.. I said sure cuz I havent weighed that since highschool.. but I know this is working and I know its been the best thing Ive ever done.. I guess one day im gonna wake up and say.. who is that person in the mirror..and go OMG its me!!.. I have a great support system in my hubby.. who loves me no matter what I look like.. My doc says the weight will still continue to drop off as I advance my diet.. so im gonna trust him on that one.. oh and going to the gym will help too.. Im starting that here soon.. so maybe if you arent going yet.. think about that.. it will help take off more weight and build more muscle tone too.. best of luck to you.

    Seminar stage

I felt the same way when I went to the seminar.. I read everything I got my hands on about the sleeve and the lap band.. so much info.. made my head spin.. then im like do I do this or not? I guess I decided that im not going to live my life over weight and be the fat girl any longer.. and Im not sorry I did it either.. it takes a lot of dedication and life changes.. but the results are way beyond what I had hoped for..and My doctor has asked my husband and I to speak at his seminar in March.. so that is way cool.. he said my hubby and I were his poster children.. made me laugh and feel honored. best of luck in you quest to find the right choice..

    Lump in throat

I had a hiatal hernia too.. I didnt have a lump or tightness.. but I could not take a deep breath.. and that scared the pants off of me.. I got panicked when I returned to my room after surgery..and had to get up out of bed and sit in the chair.. I was afraid of not being able to breath.. and for like a week at home.. I couldnt take a deep breath.. it eventually went away..and Im fine now.. they said it was because of the hernia and where it was located. but do check with your doctor.. thats why he is there for us. best of luck to you.

    Im a newbie

I know how you feel.. I too am my own worst enemy.. I look in the mirror and dont see a difference either.. even tho my hubby says there is a huge difference.. I just dont see it even tho the scale says ive lost 40lbs.. I was sleeved dec 20. And its true everyone is different.. I guess all the years of being over weight.. our self esteem has taken a beating. I guess the reality will set in when I lose my pants and they hit the floor LOL. People say Im thinner.. but I dunno. Im waiting for the pants and when I get to buy new clothes.. skinny clothes..and I have not ever lost 40 lbs ever during a diet phase before.. but according to my doc Ive done really well.. and my husband are are his "poster children" is what he called us..and we were asked to speak at a seminar for him. so that was really cool.. but keep up the good work.. you are doing fab.

    Lighten up a little...

ok I guess the arguments go on in here too.. I thought this was a place for all to ask questions and post their concerns.. I probably wont be coming back.. I try to avoid all negativity. Everyone is different. We all have our cheats and weakness. Im no different.. will I cheat and eat the oh so horrible fast food? I know ive become anal about reading labels thats for sure.. I got the sleeve as a tool. I know it will take me working with the sleeve to achieve success. I dont plan on failing. I post comments on some to tell them of my experience. or if I have found something that worked for me maybe it will work for them.. thats all.. not to dog on anyone for eating something they should or shouldnt have.. this site is here to help people not berate them or make them feel bad.. being obese has already done that to us. This is a new time for most of us.. lets all make the best of it. be positive.. but I may not come back .. I dont know yet.. too many lashings.. not enough support. but anyways.. to each his own im sure.

    Hiatal hernia?

I too had the Hiatal hernia.. but was not found out until he was doing the surgery.. Not a problem..he fixed it and did the surger too, then told me about it when I woke up.. but I signed a paper before surgery that said "if I find a hernia its ok to repair it" of course I signed the paper..and the only thing was after the surgery I had a hard time taking a deep breath..but they say that is normal for that hernia repair.. it went away after about a week or so.. no pain or anything from that.. I dont have a gallbladder and had no pain before hand with the hernia.. so I had no tests other than an EKG before surgery.. but thats ok.. everything went so well.. and Im one month post op today..and things are great Im down about 33 lbs so Im very happy to lose that in a month.. hoping the next month goes as well as im going to add some exercise to the program now.. Im back full time at both my jobs.. 80 hrs a week with lift restrictions.. so far so good.. just take your vitamins and protein protein protein... thats the key.. rest up while you are off.. you will be tired.. but thats all normal..and walk walk walk.. good luck. hope this helps.
  12. so I guess my question is.. does the zumba fitness work? can you tell a difference. they offer it at the gym here at the hospital where I work..I was wondering if doing it at home is just as effective as the one at the gym.
  13. wow you are so beautiful.. I hope I get good results too.. all I can say is wow

    afraid to eat

Im 4wks post op too.. still on soft foods.. now I can have the ground turkey and stuff like that.. I have not yet tried that.. I can have sausage too.. I dont think my fear is of something getting stuck.. just take your time.. I lost my taste for scrambled eggs after surgery.. I eat string cheese.. but for me what is happening is I go.. OH I like that.. then after a bite or 2 im like.. I dont like that.. or it has no taste.. but I do take my time.. takes me 30 min to finish 1/2 a cup of whatever im eating.. so take it slow in the beginning.. your stomach will let you know if its right or not.. Ive learned to trust my stomach..

    Cheeseburgers?

Im going the veggie burger with a low fat cheese.. that will be about the same.. no bun or maybe one of the thin breads.. Im not at that point right now.. but Im not missing fast food. and on another note.. OMG you ate baby crabs? and OMG the eggs too? LOL
  17. I too have booked a cruise to alaska for May.. Im hoping to be down at least 100lbs so I look good for that cruise.. liquid diet huh? lol Im just barely off that and on some shaved meats.. but if I hit that stall.. Im going back on liquids good Idea.
  18. My tastes have changed drastically. things I liked before surgery.. I cant take anymore.. like scrambled eggs.. I loved them before.. now I cant stand them.. they taste bad.. and for most things these days.. the first bite or 2 are ok.. then its like ok.. I dont like this.. so Im having some food issues.. which im sure is a good thing lol. But still I have yet to find that food that makes me go mmmmmmmmmm this sure is good.

    Freaking myself out

I had surgery Dec. 20th.. yes I read all the horror stories and even had one nurse tell me her sister in law had the same surgery and lost a bunch of weight and then gained it all back..not what I wanted to hear. Yes I was scared, I had the same thoughts.. what if that stuff happened to me.. But I wanted this badly. So I went on with it..and have not regretted my decision.. I have not had any complications from the surgery what so ever.. I was up 15 min after getting to my room and in the chair..and then in the hall walking in no time.. I did ask for pain meds for home because I wasnt sure of what the pain would be like.. glad I did... it helps ease the discomfort at night because I couldnt sleep on my side like I used to.. it hurt.. but hey.. Im down 33lbs in 3 weeks.. I had no issues before surgery other than being over weight... Just remember the important thing after surgery is to make sure you get your protein in and take your vitamins.. and walk, walk, walk. it helps so much.. Im sure you will be fine.. Best of luck to you. You will be soon a member of the losers club lol. you wont regret your decision. I havent.

    SF popcicles...

I too live off of popsicles. I love them and tolerate them just fine.. I cannot handle the shakes either and have tried different flavors too.. cant do it.. So now I get Cytosport.. I get that at vitamin world.. comes in 3 flavors.. tangerine.. watermelon and tropical punch I think.. 32gr of protein per bottle.. 16.9 oz. I drink that to get my protein.. 0 sugar. 1 gr carb. 0 fat that helps with my protein.. they are not bad tasting at all.. then I go from there to eat what I can..and that isnt much either.. dont feel like eating..and I dont get that hungry feeling anymore either.. Im buying water to take to work with me so I can sip thru out the day.. gonna be hard.. but Im determined to do it.. hang in there and see what your doc says and your nut.. they are the key to what will work for you. good luck on your journey.
  21. Its ok.. I dont have any family issues.. but I too believe im not taking in as much as im suppose to.. Im just not hungry for one.. and eggs are ok but scrambled they dont seem to taste good anymore. so that changes too for you.. I think as long as you get that protein in.. you will be ok and get those vitamins in too.. thats important..and talk to your doctor. hang in there.

    support and motivation

Keep up the good work.. it will be well worth it. Im only 18 post op..but have lost at least 25lbs already on my own.. just walking around for exercise. I start light weights soon.. so Im excited to lose more weight.. its not going to be easy.. but look at the big picture here.. just think what you will look like 6 mo after surgery.. a whole new life ahead for you and all of us that have had the surgery.. not one day goes by where I have regretted what I have done. its all up hill from here.. my goal is healthy life for me. I didnt have and medical issues before surgery.. but I can tell you this.. by getting it.. ive avoided a whole lot of problems.. diabetes, sleep apnea, heart diseases, due to weight..and the list goes on.. hang in there you will do great.. we all have a weak moment or two.. we are all human.. just get back up dust yourself off and continue.. and let us know how you are doing. this is a great site for support and you can hear our journeys too.. best of luck to you. )

    How often?

glad all my clothes have elastic bands.. I will wear those til they dont stay up anymore..and as for work.. I only wear scrubs at both jobs.. so those are elastic too.. so I will wear those til the elastic doesnt keep them up.. so Ive got a ways to go anyways before I get to that point..
  24. Im 17 days post op.. and it is well worth it. Its a bit hard in the beginning.. but then you adjust and it gets better.. I would do it again. I dont have that hunger I used to.. and my stomach is very small now and I cant eat much at all.. but thats ok.. Im good with that.. I am making good choices..and Im following everything that my doc and my nut. says.. also remember after surgery.. walk walk walk.. sip sip sip.. you will be fine.. best thing you will ever have done. best of luck.. let us know how you are doing.
  25. Im post op dec20. There are times I want to have something other than what Im suppose to have.. but I dont.. Im so afraid of hurting my stomach or worse yet.. throwing up.. I cant handle that.. I cant even eat that much anyways.. I dont have anything in my house that is bad for me to cheat with.. got rid of it all.. going back to work will be a challenge too.. but Im going to stick to whats right for me.. there are so many on different phases and we have the same surgery date.. my doc said stick to the list.. so I am. but for me.. I couldnt handle anymore of the shakes.. so I got a another protein drink that is like a clear liq.. 32 gr of protein in 16oz. my doc said 45-50 gr of protein was ok. but still having a hard time with food.. Just hang in there.. I know its hard.. I finally lost that Im hungry all the time feeling.. I do know when Im full.. dont like that feeling.. so I have to adjust and eat less if thats at all possible..and then take your vitamins.. thats important too.. Im sure I will have that weak moment and eat something im not suppose to have either.. but thats expected. take care and things will be ok.. we are all here to help.. not judge.. Ive learned so much from this site.. its amazing.
