  1. Hi everyone! I'm 16 days out and was so weak that I could barely function. The doc just told me to be patient, that some people just take longer to heal. Well, today I had an appointment with my NUT and she knew the problem as soon as she saw my food logs. I was so focused on getting my protein and liquids in, that I was not getting enough carbs to give me energy. She said that this was probably the only time I would hear this from her EVER, but told me into increase my carbs. She suggested I try to hit 50 grams a day and said I would notice a huge change. She made me eat a graham cracker and drink a cup of skim milk before heading home, because I was so shaky. The differnce in how I feel tonight is unreal! I have energy again! I was so obsessed with drinking a low (no) carb protein drink, that I was only getting 15-20 carbs a day. So.....just some food for thought for those of you who are weak after surgery.
  2. I combed every inch of HEB for these today and no luck! I asked the manager and he said he never heard of them.
  3. I decided not to name my sleeve because it is a permanent part of my body, not some foreign visitor. I did name my Lapband. Her name was Sybil because she had multiple personalities. I'm very happy that Sybil is long gone and I no longer have a foreign bject in my body that needs constant babysitting!
  4. Amazing! What an inspiration!!!!
  5. It is none of their business and you do not have to tell them anything, per the Medical Leave Act. My boss knows I had surgery, but no other details other than I would be out a week (which has now turned into two). One of my employees asked what type of surgery I was having and I told her it was personal and left it at that. It's none of their business!
  6. The liquid will wash the food through your new small tummy. You want it to stay full and satisfying when you eat solid food, so no drinking with meals!
  7. Love Mootopia Skim milk!
  8. I had surgery on the 14th and still struggling with pain in my right side and NO energy! I can get past the bad taste in my mouth and the sensitivity to smell. I just want my energy back and want to be pain free! I'm so ready to go back to normal activities. I'm still off work....noway can I go back in this shape!
  9. It's so interesting to read the differences in pain level with this surgery. I'm 2 weeks post op today and still have pain on my lower right side. My incision there looks great and isn't sore, it's a deep down inside pain. I still can't sleep on my side and haven't even attempted my stomach. I also can't stand pants on my waist....either have to fold them down or wear a dress. My energy is zip! This has been a tough surgery for me for some reason. I had a very easy recovery from gallbladder surgery, Lapband, and hysterectomy. Go figure!
  10. Amazing! Thank you for sharing! What an inspiration!!!
  11. My hubby ordered one for me for Mothers Day and it hasn't arrived yet.
  12. How far out from surgery before you can eat turkey jerkey?
  13. I've read a wide variety of responses regarding pain. I expected a easy recovery because 1) I have a very high tolerance for pain, 2) I've had multiple surgeries and always pop back really fast, and 3) I'm a rule follower and did everything the doctor said to do before and after. Well, SURPRISE...I had a lot of pain and had to take pain meds the first week home. I'm 11 days out now and finally feeling better, but still really week. I planned to go back to work after one week, and haven't been a ble to go back yet. Every surgery, every surgeon and every person are different. The important thing......it's worth every pain and every moment of this recovery to get to my goal of becoming healthy again!
  14. Happy Saturday! Does anyone have tips for regaining strength? I'm 11 days post op and so incredibly weak! My husband and I went out for our morning walk this morning and I got so clammy and felt incredibly faint after just a quarter mile. I know I have to push myself, but wow...it's tough to get strength back when I can seem to do so little. I'm doing well getting fluids down, but the protein drinks do not go down well because they make me so nauseous! Maybe the energy will come when I get to start mushies next week? I can't imagine going back to work on Tuesday with this little strength! Any other suggestions?
  15. I'm actually back to feeling good today. I have NO IDEA why I felt so horrible yesterday. I was totally miserable the entire day....vey nauseated, had the chills, dizzy and felt so faint. I could hardly walk to the bathroom. My husband checked my blood pressure, pulse, and temp all throughout the day and night, and was pushing me to sip every 15 minutes. I know he was very concerned (he's a paramedic, so doesn't easily worry since he's seen and done it all). He was on the phone with my doc a couple of times, so am thankful that his knowledge kept me from a trip to the ER. Today is a new day! I've went to get my nails done this morning and we are doing to going to go to movies tonight if I'm still feeling good. What a difference a day makes!
  16. I'm just miserable today....nauseated and can barely sip. I've felt like I could throw up at any minute all day long. I'm 8 days post op and was doing fine just yesterday! I was able to sip on protein drinks, sip creamed soup, and eat a few bites of pudding. I have felt so sick since I woke up this morning. I already had to have IV fluids early on, so do not want to get dehydrated. I'm sucking on crushed ice at the moment since sipping is so difficult.
  17. 60 calories....but I could only eat about half. Those were the most delicious 30 calories I've ever tasted! It's the first thing that has tasted good since my surgery 6 days ago! YUM!
  18. Do you all worry that the diarrhea will cause you to get dehydrated? I feel like more is going out than in! I can't imagine going back to work with this?
  19. Rainbow, My blood is broiling and I wish I could talk to your parents right now to give them a piece of my mind! I was sleeved on the 14th and am here for you if you ever need someone to talk to. This first 6 days has been hard, but it WILL get better and we CAN do this!!!!! You have made a great decision for your future! You are wise beyond your years. It took me until age 52 to do something to become healthy! Hang in there sweetie.......we DO BELIEVE in you!
  20. I was sleeved 6 days ago and have had terrible diarrhea since I got home from the hospital. I asked my doc about it at my one week post op visit and he said it was normal. I've not tried any milk yet, so thats not causing it. I really have to keep hydrated because I have it so often! Yuck!
  21. I am from the DFW area and was sleeved a week ago. I would love a buddy with some success under their belt.
  22. We are definitely "sleeve soul mates", as I'm one week out today too. I've had the same down moments....and am so ready to feel good! I'm shocked when I read on here that people didn't have any pain and don't have to take pain medicine!!! I'm not a wimp, have had A LOT of surgery over the years, and have a high pain tolerance. One week out, I'm still taking pain medicine at times and feel pretty crappy! I had my one week follow up yesterday with the doc, and he said I'm doing great. I looked at him and said, "you can't be serious". He said to remember that I just had MAJOR surgery. I just had 2/3 of my stomach removed. It was a major assult not only to my stomach but to my entire body. My nutrition has completely changed, so my body is responding. No wonder we feel bad! I would like to enjoy this week off work instead of sitting around the house, but finally realize that I won't be running marathons for quite awhile and need to respect my body and let it heal. Keep in touch and let me know how are you are doing. My Dad always used to say, "this too will pass.....keep your chin up"!
  23. I used a heating pad for my back, but took pain meds for my front!
