SerendipityHappens got a reaction from LMFAO575 in Be honest - does anyone regret the surgery?
Yes there are people on this forum who regret the surgery, but I'm not one of them! Best thing I ever did.. If I was able to be successful with diet and exercise alone then I wouldn't have ever gotten up to 360 pounds in the first place. The way I feel about it is our stomachs are not MADE for eating three square meals a day plus a few Snacks here and there.... An unsleeved stomach is the size of a FOOTBALL ya know so you can fill up and then not eat for a few days.. Do I really need a stomach the size of a FOOTBALL in a culture where you eat three times a day?????
Been sleeved for three and a half months now and it's going great. I can eat anything I want but choose not to most of the time. The portions are satisfying and I'm losing weight albeit a bit slower than many other sleevers.

I think it is a bit premature to be disgusted and angered as we do not have all the facts, just speculation and hearsay at this point, about what happened.
What we do know is this: Rox passed away. Dr. Aceves was her surgeon.
I hope we can all agree that Rox and her loved ones should be in our thoughts and/or prayers.

I struggle with moderation with certain things and for me it HAS gotten easier. I can eat half a serving of doritos with my cottage cheese whereas before I would eat half of a family size bag and still want more. I can also have a small piece of chocolate on occasion.. I even had a scoop of ice cream when I was out with my sisters yesterday and I didn't spiral out of control (I actually ate about half and threw the rest out). For me it has to do with not only WHAT I eat but also the circumstances. If I'm feeling at all anxious or "binge-y" I know that giving in to some chocolate or chips will definitely act as a trigger.. BUT, if I pre-plan to have 70 calories worth of Doritos with my lunch, I am now able to eat them in moderation. I still have to be very careful as I know that certain foods can be a slippery slope but for me the sleeve is indeed helping me to learn moderation.. YMMV

I've been enjoying the occasional restaurant meal since 6 weeks out and I'm now 5 months out. I can eat more than a few bites... more like nearly a cup of food and I enjoy every bite immensely.... also as much as I do enjoy cooking I also enjoy a night off once in a while and I definitely enjoy a break from the dishes/clean up.
As for sushi, I'm not a fan so I wouldn't choose to eat sushi... but I do LOVE the ginger chicken at the Vietnamese place up the street.. and I even eat a few bites of the rice noodles with my chicken. My boyfriend and I share an entree. The waiter happily brings me an extra plate and I portion off around 2/3 cup of chicken and a few tablespoons of rice noodles and we enjoy our meal and evening out.

SerendipityHappens got a reaction from ScottsGirl in How many incisions did your surgeon make?
Five incisions including the drain site. None of the incisions were in the bellybutton. They range in size from less than half an inch to about an inch and a half. I had internal dissolvable sutures and glue on the outside. All incision sites are just little pink lines now and are fading nicely.

SerendipityHappens got a reaction from sherry24184 in I think my dietician is crazy!
I think the answer lies somewhere between what your dietician says and what you read... 1200 for a man to maintain seems VERY low... and 2000 so soon after surgery seems very high.. I know active sleevers who DO eat 2000 calories a day... just not 9 days after surgery. I am 4 months out and on 1240 calories a day.

Honestly, I'd just get a new PCP. For me, my WLS is such a major aspect of my healthcare right now, I need a doctor who understands the procedure and is supportive.

SerendipityHappens got a reaction from simplejaxgirl in Iso: Pear-Shaped? Post-Op Advice
Hello all my pear sisters. Please research lipoedema aka lipedema. This is not the same as lymphedema. My sisters and I are all pears and we all have it. Even my skinny sister struggles with disproportionately large legs. (even at 112 pounds she was a size 00 top and a size 4 bottom.. a size four bottom is small... but not when you're a 00 top!!!)
Lipedema is basically fat that accumulates on the legs and lower abdomen and butt. As the lipedema progresses it can become painful along the shin. The fat is not "normal" it does not release like regular fat does, so you might find yourself losing a lot from some areas, but hardly losing any from your legs and lower body. Here's a picture of an otherwise thin person with lipedema http://painmuse.org/images/lipema.jpg Here's another site: http://lipedema-simplified.org/treatment.html
I'm not saying that all pears have lipedema, but if you're a pear and have a hard time losing weight below your navel, you should research this condition.

I tolerate everything I've tried. I have not tried bread or regular Pasta due to being sensitive to wheat but I've had rice noodles with no issue and I've had corn tortillas without issue either.
Nuts make me feel full very VERY quickly.. like a half an ounce of nuts and I'm DONE. It's not a problem.. it's actually quite welcome since with most other things I can eat far more than most other sleevers.

Atheist Zealots... religious zealots... vegan zealots... animal rights zealots....It's all the same, people who think that somehow because of a belief they hold that they are superior to others.
For me clearing my head of religion and getting rid of all the cognitive dissonance it created was the best thing I ever did for myself. I am happier. I'm a better person. I care more about investing in myself.. damn it, I'm even pretty sure my hair has more luster. Shedding religion MADE ME A BETTER PERSON.... but it didn't make me a better than anyone else.

SerendipityHappens got a reaction from mtchick in What did you eat today :) ?
Just wanted to post a "less than perfect" day, cuz, ya know, they DO happen... Here's today:
Breakfast: 4T half and half, a cup of coffee and a 20 gram Protein Powder scoop= 165 calories
Snack: 1/2 cup cottage cheese and an ENTIRE snack size bag of doritos= 220 dalories
Lunch: 1 scrambled egg, 1/2 cup of refried black Beans, 1 ounce of cheese and 1 ounce of turkey=307 calories
Snack: 3 "mini" (the real minis not the Funsize) milky way dark 1/3 cup refried beans and 1/2 ounce cheese= 250 calories
Dinner: one whole Tomato stuffed with feta cheese and topped with onion and more cheese and baked= 274 calories
Snack 2T half and half and coffee= 40 calories
Total calories for day: 1255 My goal was 1240 so I'm 15 calories over..
Total Protein for day:83 grams. my goal is 70-90
Yeah, would have been better to eat veggies/fruit instead of doritos and candy, but ugly days happen!

SerendipityHappens got a reaction from glostaff in Soda
Follow your doctor's instructions. I was allowed carbonated drinks after six weeks. I drink diet gingerale which is VERY bubbly and it feels no different on my sleeved tummy than it did before. My doctor's only advice about soda was to make sure it's diet, don't overdo it, and if it hurts, don't drink it.
Whether or not to drink soda is a personal decision. There are people who feel addicted to soda an therefore choose never to drink it again. There are people for whom having soda triggers cravings for other foods such as pizza so they avoid soda in order to avoid those cravings. There are some for whom soda no longer has a place in their healthy new lifestyle.. Then there are others like me, who have no medical reason not to drink it since our doctors don't believe it stretches the sleeve and who tolerate soda well, and who don't find it leads to cravings or addictive behavior. So for ME it's not an issue. I have a diet gingerale a couple times a month.. but what works for YOU might be completely different.
