    Rumble Roller

I've used mine a few times now and let me start by saying that I have never used a regular foam roller before.... it is intense? YES! but it feels amazing. So if you're like me and haven't used a foam roller ever, it will take you a while to use your full weight on the roller. The other thing I need to mention is that it does leave bruises on my legs, but for what it does, it's well worth it and I wouldn't complain about the bruises at all.

I ordered it last week, I should be getting it hopefully by the end of this week. Fingers crossed. I will let you know what I think when I get it!

oh my bad lol I thought you were talking about cycling lol I worked at my gym for 5 years while I was in univ. so the instructors tried adjusting the seat height so many times, just didn't work... I could always try the shorts you were talking about tho, that might help for sure! Thanks for the tip, I might give that a go again (I lost 100 pounds before in univ, and then gained it back when I went up north to work) however, I'm working on it! Thanks again!

I dont think the cycling will work... I have tried and tried and tried before, but the seats hurt my a$$... I have tried piling on the towels for padding but to no avail can I get it to work. I wanted to try the spin classes way back when.. no luck! I cant even manage for 30 seconds.

    For Distance Runners

Hey guys. I have quietly been following in the background as I'm no where near where you guys are. However, I am lost, and need some help. A little background info: Surgery in Puerto Vallarta on Jan 21st HW: 274.5, Pre-op Weight: 261.4, SW: 239.8, CW: 218.6 (Clearly a slow loser, but have lost a lot of inches and had a 4 weeks stall early out) I have signed up for a 10k race Sept 22 I finished the 5k runner app, and can currently run for an hour including a 5 min warm up and 5 min cool down (My 50 min is my max, and cant push past that right now, seem to lose my steam around the 30 min mark) However, I am not a fast runner like most of you. I am up to 6.61km in 60 min. I was running this 3-4 times a week and have been researching this past weekend and read that I should be doing ONE long run a week and the rest shorter, slower, and some interval training. (I also do cardio kick boxing once a week) So this past week I have lost 0 after running 27k The previous week I ran 25k and lost 1.6 I would really like to see the scale move, my goal would be 170? If i could get there I'd be happy. I was 185-190 when I worked out and lost 100 pounds before and I was fairly happy with that and could never get any lower without starving myself. If I went any lower than 170 (based on my 185-190) I think I might start to look a little sick Here's where I need help. I think I've obviously entered the "starvation" area. I burn 650-700 calories each time I run or do cardio kickboxing. I eat lets say 1100 calories a day, get 80+grams of protein and strive for 2L+ of water a day. My BMR is roughly 1785. I clearly in a calorie deficit and running my ass off but the scale is refusing to move with the work I'm putting in. The inches went down mostly 0.25 of a inch (went up that much in a few spots too) but hips -0.75 and thighs -0.5 in 2 weeks. What do you guys think in terms of calories for what I'm doing? I work out 4-5 days a week. Re-adjusting now for 2-3 shorter easier runs (or 2 runs and 1 walk), 1 long run trying to increase 0.5k every week or even 2 weeks, and then cardio kickboxing once a week (I also do some weights after that), and I also do a warm up and short workout with the kids I teach twice a week (mostly arms and abs) My specialist (retired surgeon) told me NOT to go into starvation mode when I met him after I got back from surgery and here I am finding myself smack dab in the middle of it... but how do you eat more!? ( I mean I could with no problem) but doesnt that defeat the purpose of the surgery? I am 11 weeks out and eating 1100 calories as it is (I was at 800 and had headaches, specialist said it was too little for me and to move to 1000 calories, problems solved when I did) But I am scared to increase the calories anymore....like I already think I eat too many calories compared to most people at 11 weeks out! What are your opinions!? I also tried to order those energy squares but it was 26.00 shipping to Canada... if I go to the states I will order and ship it there (thats a 2 hour event) since shipping is much more reasonable... any other suggestions on what to eat mid run during the long runs? Should I just drink some chocolate milk? Thanks for any info! It is much appreciated. I don't go see the specialist until the 23rd..It's so confusing since everything talks about loading up on carbs... so I'm kind of lost. Yesterday I burnt just shy of 2500 calories and ate not even 1100... I am not sure what I should be doing at all so frustrated, and want the scale to move!
  7. The Amerimed Hospital is Peurto Vallarta is brand new. It's amazing. Your room is more like a suite than a hospital room. I went alone to PV from Canada for surgery. I was completely fine.
  8. YES! I was there on Jan 21st for surgery with Dr Joya. Can't say enough great things about the hospital/staff. I would do it again in a heart beat.

Do people really do this s**t?

I am SOOO tired of trying to explain the basics to people who try to offer advice and know nothing about this surgery/my needs post op... 2L of Water is great but maybe try drinking more (how about you try it when you have to stop drinking 1/2 hour before and after... you let me know if you can get anymore in), but you know what comment makes me want to FREAK out!? "you need to be eating more than 1000 calories, that's way too little" FML
  10. Jan 21st, down 37 pounds... 21.6 pre-op, 15.4 post op

Why am I a Slowwwwwwwww loser?

7 weeks out, and have only lost 15.4 pounds. I was just in a 4 week stall that finally broke today.... seeing other peoples large numbers and "hey look I've lost 120 pounds in 5 months" made me crawl into a dark hole for the past couple days... doing better since the stall finally/hopefully broke.

    WLS Dining Out Card

Dr. Joya gave me one in Mexico
  13. I'm one month post op. I've lost about 11 inches... and 11.6 pounds since surgery 4 weeks ago. (It was a little higher last week, however, I ended up gaining 2 pounds between week 3-4, and gained about 2 inches with the 2 pound gain, which sucks!) First question... I was fully expecting stalls along the way but... weight gain!? I've read a few posts regarding that, what is usually the cause, Water? hormones? - I will mention I ended up in the emergency room last Friday for dehydration and apparently I had a bladder infection with no symptoms, I still don't believe the Dr. However... that's a whole other story! - Water intake has been much better since then, and completed anti-biotics yesterday. Second question... what do you see as being better... the loss in inches or the loss on the scale... and why?
  14. LOL Nothing wrong with a little extracurricular exercise! I couldn't believe that at 2 weeks out (-47 pounds from highest weight) I was able to donate 6 garbage bags of clothes to the womens abuse center. I was thinking maybe at 2 months out I'd be able to wear the things I'm wearing now, but not after 2 weeks. Over the past 2 weeks I've lost more inches, and gained a little on the scale. It's frustrating and hard to wrap your mind around that concept!?
  15. I was actually going to ask for an ultra sound of my liver, to see how much improvement there is since Aug when I had one for the bariatric center in my city.
  16. Old clothes fitting is definitely a great feeling! I will definitely agree with you there!
  17. Thanks for your reply and opinion! I'm on depo and don't get a period so I'm not sure if that would be something that would cause the weight gain? or if it's just Water.. not a clue

Working out within the first month of surgery...

I ran pre-op, I asked about it, and was told NO by my surgeon, nutritionist and the specialist I see back at home now... I see him on the 26th again which will be 5 weeks post op and hoping to get the clearance.. I felt amazing 2 weeks ago, and decided to move a fireplace upstairs from downstairs and boy did I feel that! I'm stubborn and don't like asking people for help, don't ask! Soo needless to say when they say no lifting or strenuous workouts for 4-6 weeks... they say it for a reason, unfortunately I learnt the hard way.

    Self Pay Questions!

Dr Joya and his team were absolutely amazing, 5 star resort on the beach, you're treated like royalty. $6000. Just had it done Jan 21st... incisions are impecable. I would do it all over in a heart beat. I have had zero issues (aside from the gas the first few days which is expected)... but ZERO issues from 3 people including myself who went to him. HIGHLY recommended! I am also from Canada so it was a long haul to get there and back. My only regret was not staying at that hotel a few extra nights either before or after. I miss my butlers!

Self pay ..what did you do?

Mine was $6000 US in Puerto Vallarta MX with Dr Joya.... put it on a personal line of credit from the bank... cheap interest rates
  21. Actually that's something I didn't really think about, and I that is a very good point! Thanks!
  22. Thank you! That did help! You are absolutely right, my body just went through hell and maybe it's just doing it's adjustments a little earlier than I expected it to. I also didn't know if my -21.6 on my 18 days of liquid would have anything to do with it... but I hadn't seen many posts that showed 20+ pounds lost on pre-op slowed progress early on... i think i was just trying to come up with reasons to make myself feel better. It's just soo hard not to compare yourself with others.. I thought about it prior to surgery and told myself that wouldn't bother me, and believe myself, however, once you're actually in that situation... totally different! Thanks for the support! I appreciate it!

    vitamins & biotin

The night of surgery I was wide awake, they actually gave me some sort of sleeping pill, prior to even having the leak test the next morning... 2 days after I was discharged and sent home with pills to take
  24. This has helped me a bit. Still reading about people losing 80 pounds in 10 months.. I thought, I wish! I hope! Tomorrow I will be 2 weeks out... the first week was good -7.2 I was happy with that, tomorrow will be week 2 but I'm only down -2.8 in 6 days... 0.2 after going to the mall and walking for 3.5 hours and having more fluids than I have had out of any day, and 94 grams of Protein...I was hoping for a little more than -0.2. It's sad that I look at the scale and pray to god that it is lower before I get on it. I don't want to be victim to the scale but it's so damn hard not to. I feel like it will keep me on track if i see the numbers going up (especially later on if i fall victim to my old eating habits), but the days it doesn't go down, it doesn't make me feel any better. Last week when it was going down consistently, I was okay with not looking at the scale every day and skipped a few days of looking. I find I'm wanting and needing to see the scale when it's not moving just to "see" if it did move since the previous day... I know I need to relax a little! I just wasn't expecting to go form -7.2 to -2.8 at week 2... (Surgery day I was 239.8... currently 231 today - I'm 5'6") I had wishful thinking of being 199 on my Birthday (March 18) but I think that goal is set too high after seeing the -2.8 this week. One other question is that I've noticed people saying they're working out like 2 weeks post op. I was running 5k prior to surgery, but was told no running for 4-6 weeks, no lifting weight for 6 weeks (they were very strict about this one). All I've been told is walking... think I should do a little more? light jog? to try to speed up the weight loss a bit?
