Denied...Need some help
I got a phone call from my surgeon's office today telling me that my insurance has denied my claim. My BMI is 36 point something and I only have one comorbity. I have to have two since my BMI is below 40. I am considering having a sleep study done to check for sleep apnea but to be honest I am feeling so deflated and just down. If I do the test and find out I don't have apnea...am I dead in the Water? Is there anything else I can do to appeal? Also...for those that did sleep studies...what was it like, how much did it cost, and did insurance cover any? :( :(

What is/was your pre-op diet? Please share.
Mine will be 7 days of liquids...not sure if they have to be clear. The nutritionist will give me a weeks worth of food to get me through it. I am so nervous about doing this and failing....I mean I'm fat for a reason. It's not like I have amazing self control.

Ladies: How many of you pre-surgery got the "Are you pregnant" question?
My son has asked me a couple times about why my belly is so big. He is genuinely curious and of course doesn't understand that it's not nice. I tell him that it isn't polite to ask things like that...that it's rude. Then I tell him that he used to live in there and he stretched it out HAHAHAHAHA! It's semi true....I have the stretch marks to prove it.

I Can't Wait To Not Have To...
I can't wait to NOT: have a rash on my inner thighs when I wear a skirt/dress without spanx hear my 6 year old son ask me why my stomach is so big have to wear pants in the blazing Louisiana heat because I'm too self conscious to wear shorts and it's too hot for spanks so therefore no skirts. wear out pants between the thighs because of the constant friction have the big belly sticking out from between the lap and shoulder belt in the car. be heavier than my husband avoid sleeveless shirts have major anxiety about going to the beach or wearing swimsuits constantly pull up my jeans to cut my gut in half constantly pull my shirt down to cover my rear have people asking me if I'm pregnant.......when I am not. allow food to rule my life

Did you keep your surgery a secret?
I am only telling my immediate family and very close friends. I don't need to hear uneducated opinions from judgy family. I haven't decided what I will say after the surgery and after it is obvious that I have lost a lot of weight. Maybe I will tell people...maybe I will just say that I'm eating less...which wont be a lie.

Question for all the "Oh my god, what have I done?" people...
I'd be curious to know how many people a year out from surgery feel regret. Or even people at goal that feel regret...since some reach that point before the year marker.

Help please i dont know what to do anymore. Does anyone else has this problem?
Maybe you weren't on the right meds for you. It takes a few tries to figure out what works best. This sounds like a chemical thing to me...You need something to straighten that out. It's not your fault.

Recovery: C-section vs sleeve
Sounds like a relatively mixed opinion on this question. I guess every surgery and every person is different...I am a little relieved to hear there are SOME who think it is less painful. Looking back I don't think my C was THAT bad but my son was in the NICU so I had a big (very, very tiny) reason to get up and get walking ASAP. I remember not being able to sleep in bed as it was painful to get in and out of so I spent a week on the couch.

Recovery: C-section vs sleeve
The only surgery I have to compare this too is the c-section I had with my son. For those that had a c-section and the sleeve...Is the pain comparable? What about recovery time?

How do I let go of the fear of Trusting myself again?
I'm still pre op but it sounds to me that you are in the right frame of mind for this surgery. You have really thought it through and the only things that are left are the things that you can't possibly know until after its over. Its normal to fear the unknown...especially when you have tried so many times before and it didn't work. I'm right there with ya.

Where is the ecuadorian faker?!
She also bragged about not following her pre-op diet...Clearly she was brilliant.

Worried how this will affect my marriage
As a person that suffers from anxiety and depression I would urge him to get help and get on those meds. That might make a big change in how he feels about affection. I know when I'm feeling extra anxious the last thing I want is someone touching me or someone wanting anything from me. Sometimes it's a chore just to get out of bed and put on real clothes. Not that I am making excuses for him because he shouldn't treat you poorly regardless. The fact is you can't change him. You can't change anything about this except how you deal with the situation. You have to do what is best for your life and if he refuses to get on the meds he needs then you have the choice to stay or go. Don't cheat. Just leave him if it comes to that.

caring for a 1 year old after the surgery? Moms and Dads, I need advice.
Maybe get a step stool and have her climb into her own high chair/pack n play/etc and just hold her hand/arms to keep her steady? Is she walking yet?

How did you decide what WLS to have?
DIED? TWICE? What....?!

psych eval
Wow really?? I just thought you sat down with a psychologist and they made sure you understood some of the mental aspects of what this surgery will mean for you. I didn't realize they were checking to make sure you shouldn't be put in the nut house.

How did you decide what WLS to have?
Maybe what I should have said was that I haven't seen anyone on here ask about lapband but quite a few posts about sleeves on the lapband site. It just made me curious.
-
How did you decide what WLS to have?
I peeked over at the lapband talk site and noticed a few posts about people asking lapband vs sleeve. How did you decide the sleeve was what you wanted? Why NOT lapband? I'm still new-ish here but I haven't noticed as many people here considering lapband as those on lapband talk considering sleeve...That might be a false observation but if it's not...then why?

Horrible taste in mouth
When I tried Atkins..or South Beach...(who can remember them all at this point) I remember reading about Ketosis and I remember the B.O. It wasn't to the point that I was embarrassed to leave the house...it was just something that I noticed on myself. I didn't have the taste issues though. Is body odor an issue after surgery too? Just curious....
