Did other medical professionals try to dissuade you from surgery?
She wasn't discouraging so much as "Just try this one more thing..." But I know that one more thing will never end. She said if I decided to go ahead with it then great...she would be all for it but she wanted me to take this pill...some mix of adepex and Topamax..."Qsymia"

Did other medical professionals try to dissuade you from surgery?
I saw my endocrinologist today and told her about my plans for getting the sleeve. She kept trying to push other WL meds at me and told me since I had lost 9 lbs (in 5 months ) that " I just KNOW you can do this on your own!" Did I mention she is one of those thin, peppy, overly happy people? Anyway...the meds she was offering cause people that have issues with kidney stones (I do) to develop more stones. I would also have to take a blood pregnancy test and an at home pregnancy test every month while I was on this medication due to the extreme birth defects associated with this pill. I told her no. No part of me wants to deal with any of that mess. But I do feel slightly discouraged. I had everything all worked out in my own mind...that this was the right choice...the best option for me. I do not want to be on meds with such crazy side effects and I've tried other things that worked for a short time but eventually I gained back. Has anyone else dealt with other doctors dissuading your decision for WLS?

Louisiana Sleevers?
I can see where some wouldn't like him because he is a little "know it all" but I personally find that reassuring and he makes me laugh...so whatever. It also is reassuring to me that he takes after care so seriously. I'm glad to hear you are doing well with no trouble

Ladies: How many of you pre-surgery got the "Are you pregnant" question?
OMG! He touched your stomach?! Even if you were pregnant you may not appreciate that. I was wearing some yoga pants that fold over at the top so I'm sure that didn't help me look flatter in the tummy area but I was at the park to exercise so what do I care what I looked like....*sigh* It is freaking mortifying.

No...this wasnt in a medical situation.

Ladies: How many of you pre-surgery got the "Are you pregnant" question?
I wish there were more "No, this never happened to me" responses honestly because it IS such a painful thing on many levels. And I couldn't be mad at her...not really. She didn't mean to embarrass me and I do look pregnant I guess...I've never totally gotten rid of my stomach after my son was born. This just makes me all the more eager to get started on my journey.

Ladies: How many of you pre-surgery got the "Are you pregnant" question?
It is quite possibly the most awkward thing that can ever be said to a female. Unless a woman's legs are in the stirrups and someone is shouting about seeing a head crowning....people should never assume someone is pregnant. LOL!

Ladies: How many of you pre-surgery got the "Are you pregnant" question?
OMG...Yeah...Right after I had my son (who was born two months early) I was asked "When are you due" I just gave her my actual due date and tried to get away as fast as possible. Also while I was pregnant (because I BLEW UP) some guy asked me if I was having twins. Then...while I was shopping for my son's 1 year birthday party stuff I was asked If i was having a boy or a girl. I said I HAD a boy...A YEAR ago...and then I said..we aren't all Heidi Klum you know....with great genes and a personal trainer. Ugh...I'm so tired of this. Instead of being nervous about my first appointment on Thursday, I am looking forward to it.

I've never heard that one before. I'll have to store it away in case it happens again.

Ladies: How many of you pre-surgery got the "Are you pregnant" question?
...When you weren't? Because that just happened to me...for like...the 3rd or 4th time in my life and I'll tell ya....If I wasn't 100% sure about getting this surgery...I am now. I never want to feel like this again. I'm so embarrassed. I could crawl in a hole. Maybe I should have thanked the lady for giving me the final push I needed to go through with VSG.

I'm terrified....
Thanks guys... I went to the group meeting to meet the Dr. and after listening to what he had to say and watching some educational videos online about the surgery, I am feeling somewhat better. I am waiting to hear back from the dr's office concerning my insurance coverage. I'll go from there.

Antidepressants
I take Effexor and I haven't noticed any weight gain from it. Prozac made me a space cadet...I went one whole day wearing my wedding ring on the wrong hand and didn't realize it until night time.

Too fat for c25k?
I'm pre surgery and I did this last summer at 80 lbs over weight. It was tough and I only got to about week 5 before I hit a wall and couldn't go any farther. It did bother my knees a little but the rest days took care of that usually. Don't run on concrete...Treadmill is a little easier on the body or asphalt/dirt tracks. Finding the right shoes is key too.

How many of you have lost hair?
I have really thick hair to start with so a little thinning wouldn't be that bad of a thing...I'm just scared that I will look like a chemo patient and it wont come back.

How many of you have lost hair?
I keep reading that hair loss may happen after surgery. Are we talking clumps of hair? Thinning? Need for wigs and hats? Does it grow back? This may seem like a trivial thing to worry about but I'd like my hair to stay on my head.

I'm terrified....
I posted this in the thread I stared back in Nov. about the surgeon I was looking into but I wanted to repost it here to get other responses. I finally called today and signed up to go to a group meeting this week. I'm terrified. I have high anxiety already and this decision is really weighing on me (no pun intended LOL!) I just dont know if I am brave enough to pull the trigger on something like this...it's such a huge, huge life changing decision. I'm scared about complications and I'm scared that I'll have this massive regret after it's been done...months later...and wonder why the hell I did it. I think I am kind of in shock that I am even considering this...or that I have reached a point where this might be my best option. I'm just scared, guys....really. I have a little boy and what scares me the most is that I might not come out of this surgery and be there for him. Am I being irrationally scared?

To Those That Are Post-Op...2 Questions From An "undecided"
Thanks for all the feedback. It is really helping me to decide what I am going to do. Like many of you have mentioned...I have major fear and anxiety over this but I also have the same fears about staying the size I am or getting bigger. I was recently diagnosed with insulin resistance and we all know it's just a short jump from that to full blown diabetes. I have a 5 year old little boy that needs me around for a long time. That is a big part of my decision...both for and against. Another thing is that I got married young and never finished college. Its something that I want to do but the idea of being the "old" and fat lady in class with a bunch of 20 year olds has prevented me from taking the steps to get back into school. I have a friend that has had this procedure and I look at how her life has changed....it's amazing. She is so much more happy now and you can see the confidence in her face. Plus of course she looks amazing. I guess what scares me the most is the actual surgery (dying on the table or having a serious complication) and what my life will be like in the long haul. The idea of a 2-5 oz stomach for the rest of my life is a daunting idea. I've never been able to stick to a diet for longer than 6 months and I worry that I wont be able to handle the change when it is forced on me by the size of the stomach. I have issues with food like many of you...I eat to heal and I hate that. I want to end this abusive relationship I have with food and I dont think I can do it on my own. I'm about 220 lbs right now...I'm 30 years old....I wonder if I'm just giving up...if I can lose the weight on my own by busting my ass. But then I remember that I've done that before and gained nearly every bit of what I lost back.

To Those That Are Post-Op...2 Questions From An "undecided"
I'm a newbie in here...Just starting to seriously consider the sleeve as an option for me...and I have a couple questions for those of you that have already had the surgery. 1.) If you could talk to yourself pre-op what would you say? What would you tell the you that was still undecided about having the surgery? 2.) Do you ever regret having the procedure? Even in tiny moments...like dinner out with friends or around the holidays? Do the regrets ever out weight the results?

Thanks for the input. I'm still trying to figure out if this is something that I am even going to do. I'm dipping my toes in the Water.
