It's tough but you have to ride this out. Try to add in more protein if you can to help keep the hunger at bay.

Had sleeve on July 31st. New to site.

Welcome! -
My first 6-7 weeks my urine smelled horrible. I also smelled different down there...not bad...just different. My hubby noticed the urine smell (no privacy in my home) but never the other smell. I never got dehydrated so I know that wasn't my issue. I assumed it was the meds and being in ketosis. By my 8th week that smell was gone and my urine was back to normal.

Sept 3rd surgery date and I feel like I might not be able to do this
TwinsMama replied to FrankieP83's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats on your surgery date. Even most of us who had complications would still have this surgery again. You can do this. Don't let your fear stop you. You're on your way to doing something excellent for your health, keep going and don't look back. BTW, complications are wayyyyy rare. So while it is good to arm yourself with knowledge it is not good to stress out over something so uncommon. -
Would love to chat with someone who has list 200 plus pounds to lose or has lost 200 plus pounds
TwinsMama replied to Kennedy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 9 weeks out. I started out needing to lose 215 (at my highest). I lost about 29 lbs pre-op. I've lost 41 post-op. I had a fast loss the first 2 weeks and have stalled pretty much since then. However, my inch loss has been nothing short of amazing. I'm loving how I look both in clothes and without them. You can do this. It seems like a big goal but as you set mini goals, you'll find it a lot less stressful. -
My husband while Christian like me, is very much different in terms of how he shows/practices faith. While we both pray, I enjoy the community fellowship of church (but boy it has to be the RIGHT one). He on the other hand, could never step in a church again (except a wedding/funeral). That small (yet big, if that makes sense) difference in us was huge at first. Having children who also...you guessed it, differ in that way has helped our children learn tolerance on such a small level. We are teaching our children that people do not have to worship (or not) the same to be respectful of one another. We also encourage our kids to learn and read about religion, spirituality, and non-belief for themselves. I've found that by doing that, our kids don't have a "fear" of things different from what they know. Our kids are still quite young, but by their age I had been to Catholic, Jewish, and Muslim places of worship with close friends of the family. Both my husband and I were raised to respect others and that's our contribution to the next generation...open, respectful citizens.

I mixed mine with water and even almond milk pre-op. But the type of protein is whey and since that's what it is made of, I just can't have it.

Less hungry further out
TwinsMama replied to shannon crotts's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As you eat more Protein and dense foods your hunger will abide a bit. It has happened to me but I HAVE to keep to my schedule or the hunger comes right back. Good for you! -
I love love love belly dancing and yes I wear the scarf too. I also do bollywood which is just as fun. My hubby likes to watch too...he usually gets a big surprise when I'm done! He's like a kid in the candy store waiting for the tapes to be done.
-
Me too! I cannot do anything whey.
-
Nope, I ended up lactose intolerant post-op. Never had that problem pre-op so now the whey is a no-go for me.

44 is still young. I say go for it. My c-section and then this surgery took so much out of me, I'd have to be really bad off to consider plastics. I am a PUNK when it comes to pain so I've decided what Spanx won't do...I'm just going to do without. Now on the flip side of that...if somehow I can get over this low pain threshold and win the lotto...oh baby, I'm getting it all done. Then I'm going to spend my days nude on my private beach!

August Sixer...What's happening and what's not happening...
TwinsMama replied to Pangur's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'd say talk to your Nut or Dr. But if you can't do the shakes, try and do other soft foods that have protein. Beware, many of us cannot do chicken/turkey that's white meat so keep that in mind. My Dr and Nut had us do phases (pureed, soft, etc) not by meal so I'm not sure how you can do this and still be on plan. I could not do any protein shakes post-op so that plan would not have worked for me. Instead I just did foods based on the consistency. My protein comes from either whole foods or Protein Bars. -

My Nut told me to try 1-2 oz every 15 minutes then work up to either more per 15 minutes or same amount but quicker frequency (like 5-10 minutes). It was a great (but unrealistic at times) goal which helped me build up my drinking. -
Try putting Crystal Light or MiO in your Water. I found that helps get it down and post-op you might need the extra taste as well. If you make yourself drink every few minutes, you may find you get enough hydration in (also will help out post-op). It is tough, but post-op you will live with a liquid diet for quite a while so you may want to perfect your technique pre-op to save headache post-op. Good luck to you!!

You might want to post this in the Cosmetic & Reconstructive Surgery forum. You may have better luck with responses. -
Congrats, you've done well!!

I was hungry after surgery. However, yes it was acid immediately following surgery. My real hunger kicked in a few days after. That was true hunger. My Dr told me while it is uncommon for most to get hungry after surgery, it is possible.

My psychologist exam no clear answer.
TwinsMama replied to bigbeauty78's topic in Insurance & Financing
I hadn't refreshed my page to see this. I would ask for a timeline of how long this will take. Then you can decide if you want to get another psych eval (second opinion). They should be able to give you a timeline and if you don't agree, you should be able to request a second opinion. -

My friend who had the surgery earlier this year was in therapy and then agreed to do more as a condition of her approval. She is not on meds, but the therapist had no probs approving her for surgery since she agreed to continue with therapy. I would call and ask for a specific yes or no. You have that right after having seen the therapist. -
So so sorry for your loss.

June 2013 Sleevers! "The List"
TwinsMama replied to rebecca_dsu's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I did at first. Then this weekend I took 3 large trash bags and filled them with clothes I could no longer wear. I realized, ok this is real. Then this AM, I literally could not wear pants I could on Friday. They were too big. So yes, I'm finally seeing it in the mirror.
