  2. 60 pounds in 5 weeks - that is wicked awesome - finally had my first fill on monday after 4+ months
  3. wow daddy-o you've lost fast - 12 more laps and thats a mile - have you had a fill yet?
  4. my doc does both surgeries and presented the pros and cons of both and left the decision with me - actually I think he leans toward lapband - bottom line at the end your in the same place either way - the weight is off and now you have to maintain - bypass you have to learn portion control and right foods and excercise - lapband - you're already doing it
  5. kudos to you sir for being a supportive husband - any surgery is risky - but this really was a piece of cake (oops I said cake) it totally works if you put forth the effort - you can cheat it unlike bypass (correct me here) Lap Band is just a tool but effective - still have to watch what you eat and how much, still have to get some excercise in every day - and it's expensive if you have to self pay but it totally improves the quality of your life, I really can't say enough good about it.
  6. perfect place to have lunch for a bunch of people that aren't supposed to eat pasta - j/k
  7. yeah in this case I was a bit reactionary - his doctor sounds like he doesn't know his ass from a hole in the ground - I've just had such a good experience with it and know others who have too that it just kinda ticks me off a little
  8. it gets old reading a what a few of these nattering naybobs of negativity have to say about the band - c'mon people educate yourselves before you come on here and bitch and moan about the lap-band - for most of us it's been a very positive rewarding experience -
  9. yeah it keeps me full quite a while but I haven't been filled yet - I go in on the 10th for my first - it's really tight first thing in the morning, it still takes a long time to finish my morning shake
  10. yeah had mine out monday - goodtimes - just like starting over on the band - back on the liquid/mushy bland - I don't think it's that common my doctor told me the percentage, can't remember exact numbers but it was fairly low
  11. it gets better - the first few weeks are rough with the liquids and the whole not chewing - I was ornery as catshit the 1st week just ask my mrs. - but you gradually add foods back into your diet - just much smaller portions - we had a family birthday last week - had the whole bbq thing - had a burger (no bun) and a spoon of potato salad and no one is the wiser - this week is a different story, back on the liquid/mushie bland after having the ol gallbladder out - goodtimes
  12. right on daddy!
  13. nutritionist recommended a childrens vitamin? - just because it's chewable - if you can go to costco or sam's club they have a liquid vitamin that has way more in it than flintstones -called liquimax complete
  14. re: hair - are you taking a multi-vitamin? - omega fatty acids and/or a fish oil supplement? - you can find a big jar of those at sam's club/costco
  15. yup nioxin hair care products are really good for thinning hair - have you tried a spoonful of peanutbutter in your shake? - little extra protein and makes it taste better too
  16. anyone had their gallbladder out since being banded? - 4 months in and it goes snafu-y on me due to the rapid weight loss - had it out this morning - feels like I'm starting over - soft bland diet, and take it easy for 2-3 weeks - sux! :faint:
  17. definately complain - I go to gold's - I figure if I'm paying for it then I have to right to complain about how they run the place.
  18. Friend of mine is looking for a fill doc in Utah County/Salt Lake County area. Thanks in advance
  19. yeah I'm spoiled - my missus is an instructor at Paul Mitchell The School and they always send her boxes of the new products to get acquainted with
  20. probably the drugs - I too had vivid dreams the first 2-3 weeks - part of it I attribute to being knocked out and part to losing a few pounds and being able to get a deeper sleep
  21. when I asked my doc about the swelling in my legs he said you get smaller from the bottom up and from the top down so the middle is last to go damnit!
  22. RE:Shampoo - ABBA has their Molassas - most product lines have a clarifying shampoo available - Paul Mitchell has a leave in conditioner that is called "The Cream" it's good stuff.
  23. agree with all thats been said - it's a life long struggle with food - we went camping a couple of weeks ago and I didn't eat very well some days, but if I had something bad for breakfast then I'd make up for it by being good the rest of the day etc. I equate it to any other addiction - only our addiction is food, trouble is you have to eat to survive - like being addicted to air - makes no sense sometimes but that's what I have to think sometimes to stay on track and also the way my doc explained it to me is that humans aren't designed to lose weight, the whole survival mode kicks in and holds on to every stinkin' calorie - so don't get down that you've lost 8 lbs. or 1 or 100 - you've got to think "I LOST 8 POUNDS!!!" instead - keep up the good work - don't get discouraged - good luck
  24. gonna have to agree here - the aftercare is very important - I was self pay $13,000 and change by Dr. Robert McKeen, recently I've had gallbladder trouble although I didn't know it at the time and called him and his nurse at 6:00 AM on a saturday and was able to actually talk with both of them, that was comforting and gave me a warm fuzzy - or was that a gallstone passing? - a friend of mine had it done last summer in Mexico and he has to pay quite a lot for fills (which he still hasn't had one yet) - there are pros and cons to both - I would go with what you're most comfortable with - good luck to you
  25. Paul Mitchell makes a shampoo called "Shampoo 3" which is a clarifying shampoo - also if you have a salon supplier in your area or a stylist I would ask them - I know there are other brands but the Paul Mitchell is the one I use - My wife is a cosmotologist, I'll ask her what else is available
