carstanger got a reaction from Kaj in Over 60 and having the sleeve
I am almost 66, had my sleeve done November 12th. Still on full Proteins. Also had my gall bladder out, which actually had no bile in it, and had a hiatal hernia repaired. I'm self pay because Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Mi won't pay for the sleeve. Probably would have paid for the gastic bypass, but I didn't want that. My daughter had the sleeve a year ago May and has lost over 100 pounds. I said I would never do it, but am off many of my meds already and trying to walk more. Looking forward to many years of traveling and enjoying life. I was out of breath on an Alaskan cruise and had thrown my back out twice over the summer. Already had knee replacement over a year ago, so am ready to go!!!

I remember feeling that way. I still do sometimes but it definitely gets better. After month 3 or 4 you will learn to love what you are eating. Now is too soon and your body still craves the bad stuff but you will soon be craving the good food if you keep the other out of your body. Believe me, it does get easier! Just keep your eye on the end result!!

I agree the mental struggle is difficult in the early weeks. As time goes on and the pounds go off, I remember THE priority. Contrary to what people want to think, there can only be one #1 priority. For me it's getting this weight off. Period. As far as comfort and addiction, I've had to find substitutes, something I couldn't....no, didn't.... do before. The trick is to find constructive substitutes like crafts, volunteer work, learning a new language, exercise. It's time to find the one(s) that works for you. Let the old go and enjoy the new you.

After six quick months, I will finally be sleeved tomorrow. I joined this site in May right after my PCP put my referral through. I jumped through all of Kaiser's hoops and met some amazing people along the way.
This site and the posters here have been invaluable to me during these six months, and will continue to be as I finally become a post-op patient. The advice, kind words, and support I have experienced here have been amazing.
I can't wait to come back from the hospital on Tuesday and write to you all as someone who has been sleeved.
    Thank you for everything!
    Allison

From Amazon you can buy small packs of Isopure. I only buy Isopure powders and I have Dutch chocolate, vanilla, banana, and unflavored. I also buy PB2. I LOVE choc Peanut Butter and choc banana shakes! I also bought SF syrups. In the am I make a cup of coffee and stir in vanilla powder and Carmel Syrup.< /p>
