I haven't had anyone give me negative responses, but I would have said to her with a smile on my face, "Aw good for you sweetie now back to me, I had this surgery because my butt was fat and I was in poor health and I decided to take control of my body, hence the reason I'm here."

The fact is they will come up with a better surgery, like you mentioned medicine is always evolving. For me I don't worry about it, I'm living in the now so I took the best option for me. If you are worried, perhaps you should take a step back and wait a while before making this life changing decision.

I don't think it's a lie I think it's half truth and it does give false hope yea u will lose weight from exercising but not large amounts of weight and how much u want to bet that majority of the ppl heard about the surgery through friend our word of mouth in my opinion it is what it is and ppl are just lying to them selves the fact that they had to do this and the more ppl speak out about it it will help other ppl it's no different then speaking out about mental illness why feel uncomfortable unless your a shame

I'm going to provide a slightly different idea here.
When looking at a lot of photos where people show before and after at around 50-80 lbs, for many it isn't "jump out at you" obvious. For one, most of us have never met in person. Another is that different lighting, different clothing, and especially different distances from the camera change the perspective.
But more than anything is that almost all of us have the same shape, only much smaller. Our fundamental body shape doesn't change significantly until there is a really extreme loss. When someone is a size 22 and has a certain body shape, then they are a size 16, the proprtions are the same respective to other parts of the body. So you still look like "you," only a smaller version of you. With our quick initial weight loss, our skin has not caught up yet, so we may tend to be a bit loose at first, but that will change as our bodies adjust.
It wasn't until I had lost over 40 lbs that anyone made a comment about my weight loss at all (maybe 1-2 coworkers). They just didn't see it. At 50 lbs a few more noticed, but not all that many (maybe a few more coworkers and two family members).
For us living in our own skin, we feel dramatically different!! Our clothing sizes change, we can do more, we feel so much better, we are living the huge difference in so many ways that are not just visual.
Give yourself a lot of mental hugs and know that you have made a HUGE impact on your life. I can tell because I'm right there with you, or close to you with over 50 lbs lost. We know to look for certain things that may not be as obvious to others. Keep doing the good work you are doing. Your progress is showing!

You will be ok, 18lbs isn't much. Perhaps you should sit down and have a heart to heart with your boyfriend and let him know the struggles you are having and that you need his help. I would also suggest that you find a local support group. I think you will be okay if you get it under control now. Good luck and congratulations.

"No one opinion is more or less valid than the other." I totally agree.
Some people need the pat on the back others need the kick in the pants. Perhaps everyone posting should add a disclaimer as to what type of response they want. Everyone posting for feedback isn't going to like every answer, that's just the way it is on a public forum.

Pole dancing. I've always wanted to take the classes but knew I was too big for the pole. I heard it is a phenomenal exercise, it may look easy but it isn't.

Thank you for sharing. I have always been one who embraces my body at any size whether i was average, fat or fatter and I guess thinner with flabby skin. I will be nip tucking.

I would inquire with the surgeon especially if you are traveling. Obesity and long flights and your family history put you at greater risk of a blood clot and pulmonary embolism.

Sometimes I really am surprised about some of the questions or lack of information. There are a lot of very basic questions. It could be that some are just wanting to connect with others and that is an easy way to interact with people in the forum.
But a simple web search can answer a huge percentage of these questions, such as general definitions. Self-education, to me at least, is like brushing your teeth, buying groceries, etc...a basic life skill.
And if you are reading these forums and see that other people have a post-op plan, then it only takes a few minutes to find post-op vsg plans from major health centers and top hospitals on the Internet.

To me coddling is not supportive. I cannot respond with sunshine, flowers and puppy dogs. Call it a flaw. Take my advice or don't. I suppose there are very wounded people here, but I don't walk on eggshells at the expense of people who respond to common sense rather than emotion.

I'm not sure what the correlation is between being well prepared and being self pay vs insured. I've seen too many people on this website from both sides of the aisle who have no idea what to do next. And while I do think each person should do their own research beforehand, what pains me the most is the fact that some surgeons would send their patients out into the world without a comprehensive, detailed plan. That is just negligent to me. Success of This surgery depends ENTIRELY on a person's post op plan. The plan can be moderate or strict, but we all need one. Without it we just go back to our bad habits and we find ways to eat around the sleeve.
The worst part is many people come here looking for that plan, but it's not here. All of our collective experiences are too varied. There is no one right plan. It needs to come from one's medical team, not this website.

Frank, I believe that toe pain is only a symptom if it's on the right side
And maybe you should chat with Liz, who I also worried...she did have a leak and reacted quickly because I'm such a horror. She's just now home from hospital and doing better thank god. I'm sorry you were so worried...and yet not at all sorry that Liz was given she got help quickly.
For the record, I've told people many times that their symptoms are NOT likely signs of a leak.
I'm very glad that your recovery has been exemplary and you haven't had any issues at all. I wish 100% of these surgeries was like that. I honestly do.
