  1. I never understand why people lie about the surgery.. I am flat out honest when people ask me how I lost weight , I don't sugar coat anything . If they don't like it that's there problem not mine. One of my best friends has lost over 100 pounds with the surgery it's been a couple years and she still continues to lie to people ! I just don't get it . I'm proud of my new sleeve and tell everyone that asks . I think it's more of a burden on someone's life to constantly be worrying and trying to cover up how they really lost the weight . Seems like it would just be easier to tell the truth.

For me it's very simple, I have an opportunity to educate and me telling others about the surgery eliminates the gossip.

  2. My friend and I have been best friends since we were 15. We have both battled weight issues since our teen years. Despite living completely different lives and living in different parts if the country, our friendship has always flourished. She let me know during the pre-op phase that she was completely opposed to the surgery, and that I could do it the old-fashioned way (even though neither of us had ever reached a healthy weight doing it the old-fashioned way). I love her so much and don't want to lose her, but se actually just asked me to back off and give her space. Anyone else have any issues with friends related to their decision to pursue surgery, and have any advice for me? Thanks everyone.

When did a life choice become a group decision especially when this doesnt effect your friend. I understand that you consider this person a friend, but when you've made other important decisions in your life was she involved in those decisions as well? Sometimes "we" make decisions that no one else is going to like and we must stand by those decisions and stand up for ourselves no matter what others say. I would give her space, but before giving her that space I would tell her how much you love her as a friend and no matter how upset she is you aren't changing your decision to have the surgery. Ask her would she prefer to see you happy and healthy or miserable and unhealthy.....and if she is your true friend she will stand by you even though she doesn't agree with you. Sometimes all a true friend needs to do is just be there. I hope your friendship can survive this.

  3. You can do it! And lordy, they are so expensive nowadays! With the money you save you'll be able to buy the new wardrobe you'll need when you lose all your excess weight! woo hoo!

Now this is true! When I was quitting, I had two jars one with smoked cigarette butts with Water (when you open the jar the stench is overwhelming and disgusting), and one to put all the money I saved. Of course cigs were much cheaper then, but I was still able to make a major purchase from the money I saved.

  4. I'm an ex smoker. Twenty three years to be exact. I stopped because my job location was becoming a smoke free environment and the company offered a free smoking cessation program SMOKENDERS. SMOKENDERS is a behavioral modification program. I know it's hard, but I would really suggest quitting, you will feel so much better smoke free.

  5. I know it must be hard for you, but just think that in a few months you will be much healthier and perhaps you will be smiling. Just think you are blessed to be able to have this surgery to change your life. Sometimes you have to but everything in perspective, hopefully it will get better.
