I had a ton of bruises following the surgery, I just chalked it up to be moved around from the OR to the gurney to recovery etc. I have a periodic large bruise on my legs but it is probably from the dog jumping on me.

Just try to ignore her, (as much as you possibly can in your work environment) obviously she is delusional and has other issues to deal with. Focus on yourself and your journey.I have a coworker that only works with me sometimes and she is extreemly thin. I never asked her about weight loss at all ,Not knowing that she had ever been overweight . But , as a nurse I can see all the signs of a gastic bypass, hair thinning and relatively unhealty, tiny meals throughout the day. no driinking during meals. Dumping syndrom when she ate sweets.( However ,she loved her sweets , then she'd vomit every day ) very saggy skin....
I mentioned (to my friend )that I was having a hard time trying to stop drinking soda and eating potatoes and my coworker sitting at the same table said that she lost 145 lbs in 7 months with diet and excercise ...now we work very closely together 12 hours a day shared meals and a room together for two weeks .
Never did she exercise even 1 time.
She went on and on about how she lost weight by cutting out the very things that were sitting on her plate- until she went to the bathroom to throw up . I was furious that she would do that . I felt like she was making it all sound so easy when I know she had surgery? WTH ..
Now , I also must disclose that I really didn't like her much before all this happened ( there are reasons related to her telling a lie at work that could have gotten me fired if I could't prove she lied) and of course like her even less now ,but I also feel sorry for her because I didn't even ask her what she did and she felt the need to LIE about it, And make me look weak at the same time ? Weird because I have never done anything to her?

I still sip, I'm 4 months out.

I agree, ask the dr.I did not have that problem. I personally would ask the Dr. if he is not scheduled to see you have them put a call in.

I use the one listed below, but I only take one med twice a day. I use the organizer as a 28day organizer. Link below.
Previously I had a detachable organizer but kept misplacing the empty pods.

I haven't had any problems with spicy and hot foods, but I'm wondering if I'll still be able to enjoy the super hot habanero infused foods. That 30 minute drink wait might shut that down.

The main reason I drank diet soda was for the carbonation. Soda has absolutely no appeal to me minus the carbonation, but I am interested to hear how the Popsicle taste.

I think it's a bit of both. From what I have been reading it more of a thinning shed then a length shedding, so you should be ok.
I went in with my eyes wide open, I prepared for the worse case scenario and informed my stylist well in advance of the surgery for preventative measures. Thanks for the info! I relax my hair once every 2 years and I color it about once a year. I am fully prepared to lose it I'm just wondering what to expect.

Thank you for sharing your story. Sorry you had to deal with the not so nice complications of the surgery. On a positive note, hopefully you are free from insulin.

I know, it is annoying, but it could be worse. My hair is pretty thick, but if it continues to shed I'll chop it off and start from scratch. (I'll save a considerable amount of money at the salon too.)
-
The shedding started in the 3rd month, I'm at month 4. BTW, have been taking Biotin from the beginning.

Not sure if you chemically treat or wear your hair natural so I wanted to add that prior to surgery I would color and relax my hair regularly, I have since suspended coloring my hair because I didn't want to add undo stress.

I am losing quite a bit of hair. I have been adhering to all of the Protein and Vitamin guidelines, yet still experiencing loss. Seems like the majority of the loss is volume but there is some breakage so most likely I may be cutting it off and starting from scratch. I frequent the salon bi-weekly and have had protein and moisturizing treatments, and nothing has stopped the loss. I did speak with my PCP and checked blood panel and everything is normal, she seems to think that it is just part of the rapid weight loss. I will be seeing a dermatologist tomorrow so I'll keep you posted. It is what it is, It certainly isn't the worst thing that has happened in my life and may be just part of the process.....it's just hair and it will grow back. I hope you will be ok.

As long as you are prepared with Protein Drinks, pre-planning for your food choices and the knowledge that drinking might be out of the question. (You can be the designated photographer.) Have fun!

I too was tired after the surgery, but at about 4 weeks out I was fine. Just give it a few more weeks and hopefully you wil be fine.

Uppr, I'm sorry your mom's surgery didn't go well I'm sure it must be hard for her. Sometimes even family dont know our struggles. I'm glad you have the support of your sister and hubby.Gemini… my mother actually had gastric bypass back in 1980 it was actually experimental for her and didn't work but she said it was a lot different back then they didn't even require them to change their diets and she only lost about 15 pounds. I don't think she is necessarily against it but doesn't show support either. My father feels like it can be done with diet and exercise alone. He says just give up breads, rice and Pasta and I would be fine!

Sorry you are going through this. Have your parents said why they are so against you having this surgery?

Try a hot bath with Epsom salts to help relieve the joint pain. Heating pads may help relieve the pain in areas as well. I would also f/u with an orthopedic surgeon to be evaluted.

Hi, 180 might be an idea weight since you are tall. Just remember you can always adjust your weight goals as you start to lose the weight. Good luck!

it seems to be an emotional issue here on the board, if you search you will see. You can also google "drinking alcohol after weight loss surgery"Unfortunitly I can't ask my surgeon that's why I have asked people there opinion and what they think. I don't understand why I would get emotional responses Im genuinely concerned x

Oh my......I would suggest you ask your surgeon. You are going to get a zillion different answers here and some will be quite emotional.

OK, so today I met with my dermatologist. My dermatologist explained that the type of hair loss we are experiencing is called telogen effluvium and is more due to recent shock to your system, ie., weight loss, pain, recent surgery, over or under active thyroid, childbirth, medications and other underlying conditions not just lack of Protein. The dermatologist mentioned that one could lose over 50% of your hair, but that it will grow back in 5-8 months. She suggested using minoxidil, which will stimulate the growth of new hair faster. The less expensive brands are: (both 2%)
* Equate which can be purchased at Walmart
http://www.walmart.com/search/search-ng.do?ic=16_0&Find=Find&search_constraint=976760&search_query=minoxidil&facet=brand%3AEquate&_refineresult=true&cat_id=976760
* Kirkland Minoxidil which can be purchased at costco.
Important instructions on use:
It is important that if you do use the minoxidil, it is to be placed on your scalp, do not rub it into your hair, it will just make your hair more brittle and susceptible to breakage. Do not let it drip onto your forehead as it will cause headaches. The best application is laying back preferably into a Shampoo sink.
