    Just Sayin

I can totally feel you , I was sleeved Nov 13 , 2012 and felt exactly the same way ,,, what works better for me is that I bought the whey Protein Powder at GNC , vanilla flavor ( The red one ) and I mix 1/2 banana & 3 strawberries with 6 oz Skim milk and 1 scoop of the powder Protein in the blender, or buy the Frozen berries with pieces of yogurt ( Yoplain ) and Skim milk or Water and the protein powder . If you are stil pre op , check with your doctor but if your post op , you should be okay.

    Snack Struggles

I am suprised that you are allowed this type of pre op diet , but I guess all Doctors are different. I had my surgery this past Nov 13 th, and I had to do a 14 day pre op clear liquid diet and I was not allowed anything else. I lived on Clear broth , sugar free jello & Popcicles , sugar free drinks & tea . I allowed my self 1 cup of decaf coffee and 2 -3 slim fast shakes. I lost 15 lbs. My start weight was 237 , Day of surgery 222 and as of today , I am 210. Good luck to you , best wishes of your surgery & recovery.
  3. I am so stressed out over my surgery . I have a great paying Job and position.. Late July , I had to have a full hystorectomy and took off 8 weeks . A week and half after my surgery my mother was really sick and in the hospital for a little over a month and she past away Sept 10 th. I had asked my boss for additional time off . My sleeve surgery had been scheduled for Oct 3 , then pushed back to Oct 12 .... I did not tell my boss about my sleeve surgery . I just told her that I needed more time and I would be back to work on Oct 22nd . A 3 days before my surgery date I got a call from my Dr. saying that my surgery was canceled because of new Insurance requirements and I would have to see my nutritionist 4 more times at 1 visit per month , I was very upset but I said Fine. I had estimated that if I needed 4 more visits , I would probably be schedualed until late Jan or Feb 2013 . So I went back to work and this morning I got another call from my Dr. office saying that , they had spoken to my insurance and everything was approved so my new surgery date would be Nov 13 ..... Now I dont know what to do with my Job , My boss is in the process of opening two other locations and wants me to oversee all three centers and is giving me a raise ( I was making a decent salary before ) when I came back to work my boss cut the hours of the 2 other women that had taken over my position . and asking for time off again , at this time would look so bad on my part. What do I tell my boss ? It's not that she wouldnt understand , but the type of buissness that I work in , requires a manager at all times, so I would have to be replaced again and trust me when I tell you that those ladies want my position so bad , there was alot of tension when I came back to work. what do i do??

    Exactly 7 Days Pre Op

I am so happy to see the numbers on my scale go down , I was sleeved on Nov 13 ,2012 . My starting weight was 237 , after the 14 days pre op liquid diet and day on my surgery 222 lbs , Today I am 210lbs. I am thankful that everything has gone well so far no gas pains , vomiting or dumping . The incisions are less sore. I did my week of only clear liquids and yesterday started to transiton into full liquids , I was worried how my stomach would react to the slim fast protein shakes ,since some people have stated that they are to thick , but I did okay , also added a cream of celery soup but I used the lactose free milk , only because I didnt want to have a neggative reaction so I played it safe. I really enjoyed having the sugar free fudge bars, I don't really feel hungry but sometimes the smell of food makes me feel like I want to eat and I wish that I could ( I have to wait at least 2 more weeks to have solids ) maybe sometime next week I can move into puree foods ,although I feel that my stomach can handle it now , I dont want to do anything that could interfear in the healing process of my stomach. I am very eager and excited to see what happens to my body in the next few months , wondering if I will continue to lose once I start on puree and solid foods . My clothes are starting to get loose , I wish I could go get a new smaller size pair of jeans but I dont want to put any preasure on the incisions on my belly. Thank you for reading my journey , I wish everybody all the best .
  5. I am very surprised when I hear that , I had my surgery 8 days ago and I have lost 12 lbs , and during my 14 day pre op diet , Lost 15 lbs total weight loss 27 lbs. Down to 210 lbs. Have you asked your doctor why this is happening? please keep me posted I would really like to know why this happens to some people. I wish you the best of luck.

    Soy-Ginger Chicken

Takecaregirl It sounds delicious , I am 7 days post op and still on full liquids , at this point I am only dreaming of the day that I can actually chew something , sometimes I wonder if I will be able to. Its hard to believe that I have not had any food since October 30 th . When will I feel human again ? when will I be able to sit to eat with my family instead of having to leave the kitchen ?

    Mexico Complications?

I had my sleeve surgery on Nov 13 , in the U.S . I hope that you don't take this the wrong way because this is just my opinion and speaking as a mexican . I would have never conciderd having my surgery in Mexico because ............ They are not regulated like the U.S Many lousy Doctors that can't work in the States ,go seeking clients there. The recovery for some patients is in a Hotel with a nurse ( Not a hospital). Even famouse Mexican actresses have been victims of Doctors in mexico and have died. Remember : " You get what you pay for ".

    Did It!

Tiffany , you described everything so great , I was sleeved on Nov 13 and everything you told was exactly my experiance . The little bag that the hooked on next to the IV was pain , I also got some injections every 8 hrs to prevent blood cots and those vibrating things on my legs , the one thing that they didnt do to me was the "Leak test barum swallow " . I also did very well (Thank God) Never got those "Gas pains " ,left the hospital after 2 days , have not had any nausea or vomited, Its been Its been nearly 6 days and i have not gone #2 , but I figure its because i am still on all clear liquids , in a few days I will try to add the protein shakes and I believe that I can also add the cream soups. I have to admit that I am not really hungry . I hope that you keep doing well . Start weight was 237 Pre op ( 14 days ) 222 After surgery 218
  9. Ronlee I forgot to share my weight . Start weight 237 Day of surgery 222 Current : 218 Goal 140
  10. Ronlee What was helpful to me was that I had a fully Hystorectomy this past July , and it was an open surgery ,,, I figured that if I got through that , the sleeve surgery was less invasive ,so I wasnt so nervouse about the procedure itself. My concerns were much like yours , wondering how I would feel and how my body was going to respond . I had heard such possitive stories from other sleevers but also heard the neggative ones. I was very lucky ,my surgery was on Nov 13 and I went home on the 15th. I have not experianced those " Gas pains" that I have heard people talk about. I think let me go home because I was passing gas and urinating like they expected , there were 2 other women in the same unit that had gotten sleeved and the nurse told me that they were not doing too good so they had to stay longer. As for me the only time that I felt that sharp pain right under my breast on my left side was on the 1st day when i tried to sip Water or broth . The 2nd day I was able to drink a little more and that sharp pain seemed to lessen. On the 3rd day I started drinking more and I didnt feel that pain anymore , instead I felt it in the back of my throat ,so after that feeling passed I continued to drink more especially since I was worried about getting dehydrated. The thing that is bothering me alot is the Incisions on my stomache , sometimes it feels like my skin is streching , and other times the bigger Incision feels like its indenting inward and feels awful , another thing that started bothering me is my back . I have not been able to do #2 , but I am not so worried yet because I am still on Clear Liquids . thats about what is happening to me .. I dont feel hungy . After you have your surgery , please remember that you mouth will be bigger then your stomach , so dont take a mouth full of water or liquids , take in small sips . I wish you the very best on your surgery , if you need any support I will so happy to share with you anything that may be helpful. May God bless you.
  11. I had my sleeve on Nov 13 , The only time I drank from a medicine cup was when i was in the hospital for 2 days , on my 3 rd day home , I can take in more liquids .. yesterday I made myself a cup of tea and I sat with it in my hand watching tv. and without realizing it , I finished the whole cup ........ I think that I am adjusting to taking in small sips and as soon as I feel that something in the pitch of my neck , I automatically stop and when it passes I take another sip.

May Get To Go Home Today.

Hey , Butterfly I am sorry to hear that your having a rough time , I also had my surgery this past 13 of November . I was able to leave on the 15th. I guess everybody responds differently. The thing that was so helpful to me was all the comments and stories that i had heard through this site. I kept remembering that your mouth becomes larger than your stomach , so when I took my first sip of Water , I was very careful and took very small sips . On the 14 th , I tried to take in the Soup and Jello , and then I felt that little pain right under my breast , so I stoped and as soon as it passed , I tried to take more in. I was relased on the 15th , and I got home , all I wanted to do is sleep. I felt so moody and sick and tierd of eating the same thing ,,, that stupid broth and jello ... so I didnt eat much except for the jello and some water. I also had a sleepless night , kept waking up every 2 hours , my belly was so sore and my back was killing me. This Morning , I felt better took a shower , went out to the grocery store , cooked dinner for my family . I was able to take in my water much easier .. I didnt feel that pain under my chest , but i am still careful because I dont want to throw up . I really hope that you feel better and if you need any support , drop me a message.

I Had A Very Bad Night, And A Bit Of A Set Back Last Night!

I just got home today after getting sleeved , everything went well , Thank God, after reading your story , I will avoid milk ..... but I am wondering if I should continue my protein shakes ? I hope that you feel better and dont have to go through that again.
  14. I am also getting sleeved tomorrow I have to be at the hospital by 11 am , i feel very excited and nervous too. wish you the best .
  15. I am surprised to see that alot of you were allowed cucumbers and even chicken , I just finished my 13 th day of pre -op , I never weight myself because i dont have a scale and also because I know that I have done my best and never fell off the wagon. I am kinda worried because I dont feel that I lost the 10- 20 lbs my doctor wanted me to lose, maybe 5- 7 lbs. Tomorrow I will have my surgery at 11am. I feel so nervouse.
  16. Chris , thanks for the reply . I really hope that you achieve your goal. I am worried about the how much weight I will lose before my surgery , only because my Doctor told us at his Info session that he expects his patients to drop 10 - 20 lbs on the pre op , he mentioned that he canceled surgeries for some patients because they did not drop any weight ..... he also explained that the reason for the clear liquid diet was to shrink the liver , I just hope that with the 5 - 7 lbs ,that I feel I have lost , he doesnt cancel my surgery.
  17. I will be having my surgery on Nov 13 , and reading your story makes me worried ... for one thing , I had to do the 14 day pre op liquid diet , I am on the 7 th day , and honestly I am much like you ... I have not weight myself because I am doing everything as i should with my liquids , broth jello and so on .... I admit that with the broth ..I have used the Lipton 50 calorie instant soup ( has a little noodles in it ) and i have 2 packages a day along with 2 slim fast shakes , decaf cofee .. but I dont feel as if i have lost a significant amount of weight .... I wanna guess maybe 5 lbs , so far because my pants do feel more comfortable and my jeans a little baggy on the butt area .......... I hear of people losing up to 20 lbs on the pre op ...... I have excerised 2 times this week for 45 minutes each time ..... I don't know what else i could have done .......... God knows i have craved real food and have had such hunger pains. please post and let us know what happens. best luck to you.
  18. I am so happy for you, reading your story gives me hope . I am on my 2 nd day of the pre op , I really struggled the first day , Today was better but I need some tips . how did you managed the 14 days?

Two Weeks... Well Technically 13 Days!

I wish you the best of luck , how ironic that I am also having my surgery on Nov 13 , and I actually cleaned out my closet this past weekend and gave away alot of clothes that i didnt want and also kept only a few things to wear now that its getting cold and like you , I also have some very nice clothing that i had from before sizes 16 - 18. I wear a 20 right now. I was suppose to start my pre op liquid diet today but I failed misserably, I got to a good start but around 6 pm , I was just so hungry and wanted to have some of the left over morrocan food that I brought back home last night. any advice?
  20. . I am tierd of my weight.

    I Need A Friend.

Hi Tiffany , don't ge down on your self we have all been through that with our weight , just try to watch what you eat . At this point I think that you should just try not to gain any weight or lose to much weight because I heard that it may affect you with your surgery. If you gain to much it shows that you have no control and if you lose , it shows that maybe you can do it on your own.. As for me , I started seeing my nutriionist in April , time has gone so quick. I was schedualed to get sleeved Oct 3 , then they pushed it to Oct 12 , then 3 days before my surgery they called and cancled me because of an issue with my insurance and Ironically today they told me that I am scheduled for Nov 13 , so I have to start my pre op liquid diet on Oct 30 th. I am not looking forward to that again. what state are you from?
  22. Sharon , I am shocked that you have to do 28 days . I thought it was nuts to have to do 14 days ,after hearing from so many people that they were only expected to to 3 days. I was on my 10 th day of liquids before my surgery and 3 days before i was to have surgery , I got a call from my doctor's office saying that due to some insurance issues my surgery was canceled until we cleared up those issues . I was pissed off as hell , It was so hard to do the liquid diet and I was so stressed out about having to lose 20 lbs. Sharon , I know it's hard , I use to get such headaches and I was so hungry all the time. I know it must be even harder having to take care of you small children. I don't want to give you bad advice but maybe you could add a few unsalted saltine crackers to your broth , or add 1 pack of splenda to 1/2 cup of cottage cheese or put some cottage cheese over the sugar free Jello . I only lost 6 lbs on my 10th day ,which I was shocked since I really stuck to it. Ironically , I got a call from my doctor s office today , saying that everything was approved and all i needed was my primary doctor's clearance ...... so I will have to do this pre op diet again , lets see how this goes.
  23. I was supposed to have my surgery this coming friday ( Oct 12 ) and yesterday I got a call from my Doctors office saying that there were some new insurance policies that had to be met before my surgery , I was really upset especially since i had already taken the time off from work and lost 10 lbs on my pre op diet. anyway.......... I did not tell anyone about my surgery except for my husband, my 20 yr old son , 18 yr old daughter THATS IT ! . I decided not to tell my boss and co-workers because i just feel that it's non of their buisness . I didn't tell my brothers and sisters because they are always so judgemental and I don't want to hear any drama or opinions since my mind is made up , also because they are always rubbing in my face how much they spend on Gym's and personal trainers and make me feel like I am a weak looser. As for my girlfriends , i did not tell them either only because they would go open their big mouths and tell the rest of my friends . I figure that I have delt with my weight and all that comes with it by myself and the struggles that i have had , I resolved and managed alone ........... so I am feeling a bit selfish and I can't wait to have my surgery so that I can be the person that I was before and even better ...... and to all the ones that looked down at me and judged me based on my weight ... eat my dust . Lol My best wishes to you and remember that you don't have to tell anyone if you don't want to , that's your right !

Not Doing So Well On Pre-Op

I feel you , i had to do 14 days and the first 3 days were so hard , I also found myself cheating , not eating junk or anything but for 2 days i had a hard boiled egg in the morning and the third day i had a salad .. after that the guilt was killing me and i drilled it in my head that i was gonna stick to it.
