    Any regrets?

The recovery for me has been really tough, I'm 5 weeks out and at this point do regret having it done. Not sure after I get used to this sleeve if I will feel the same way, but as for now, yes. Some recover and do really well, then you have like me. There are issues, like, foaming, trying to get down protein and fluids when your sleeve says no way, weakness, mentally adjusting to the new normal. For some of us it's not all roses.
  3. Yes, I was in the hospital for a week, drain and all. It was painful but did heal.
  4. Belly band was a must for me, it really helped

    Almost 4 week update

Finally starting to feel better, Thank you Jesus! I've started soft foods as well as puréed. Eating seemed to help me feel better. Still can't tolerate protein shakes or drinks, just can't handle it. Am doing better on fluids. Not really caring about weight loss at this time, just concentrating on healing and getting better.

    6 days post surgery

I have to be honest, I thought this would be better for me, cause I have had so many surgeries in the past. It isn't all what I thought it would be, I'm not whining or complaining, just thinking out loud. From waking up in intermediate ICU to all these tubes hooked up to me, wasn't how I had envisioned it. Oh, I knew there would be pain and soreness, been there done that, but simply swallowing or in my case munching on ice. The doctors and nurses were awesome, they made this experience doable. So, what was so surprising? I thought it would be a breeze and I would bounce back faster than anyone, stupid thinking I know. I think I'm morning the loss of the old me, the one that flicked her nose at rules and did what she wanted. My sleeve said nay, nay nay you have to be accountable now. As I stomp my foot and say bummer! I've read a lot of posts where ppl say they love their sleeve, hum, love is sorta a strong word at the moment. We are tolerating each other at this time. I was trying to drink Isopure, gag, gag, gag. Well I have a great shake that has a lot of protein I can drink in the am and pm with enough protein. So why am I trying to drink the crappy stuff? Silly me! Now getting my fluids down! I want to take gulps and you know what gulps do. So I'm using lil cups to sip out of. Problem solved! Next is gas. I swear I walked 2 miles a day at the hospital, not even one lil poof, notta piff, notta fuff. Nothing. I could burp a sailor under the table but no gas insite. Until I went home, that sailor would be proud! Lol So as I'm laying here listening to the splitter, splatter of my new tummy I'm thinking... Lil Sleeve you better be worth it!!! All for now.......
  13. I am now 3 weeks out and feel like crap. I went to my surgeon today and he wants to start at home IV fluids. I just can't bear another pic line. My stomach keeps bubbling up and every time I drink slowly about 15 minutes later it starts gurgling up. I'm in trouble if I can't drink! My surgeon said because of all the surgeries and the infection problem it's taking longer to heal and IV fluids may be the way I have to go for now. Have any of you gone through this?
  14. Got fluids today, couldn't wait
  15. I just discovered that if I treat my sleeve like a newborn baby, I feel so much better. Every time I get sick I eat a little something, even if I don't feel like it, I stop being sick. Well that's like a newborn. Newborns start out with liquids, progress to soft, etc, etc.... You all may have already figured this out but I'm kinda slow, lol. So I was in a dead sleep and I woke up really sick feeling, it's too early to get up so I ate a sf Jello. Amazing, all better! I ate butternut squash Soup last night, not something that will stick to your ribs, and was sick at bed time. When my boys were baby's I would put a lil rice Cereal in their milk and they would sleep all night. So maybe tonight for dinner I'll try some instant oatmeal and see if that works. So let me get this straight: eat every couple hours or you cry like a baby. Lol. My aha moment!

    Sleeve like a newborn baby!

    Lol, you all so funny!
  17. Yep, weird hah. I asked doctors about it, they didn't seem too concerned. 3 weeks out and it still comes and goes.
  18. I don't know if this has anything to do with sleeve but everything smells bad or funny. I know about the taste thing but didn't expect the smell thing.

    Medical Alert Bracelets

I got a wallet card from my surgeon, that's good to know!
  20. Before my sleeve I would read every post I could, thinking I wanted to be well informed. There are some ppl who just fly through this surgery perfectly. Then there are those like me. I knew I was a high risk but ignored it. My surgery was on Jan 22nd, woke up in ICU, had to return cause drain area got infected. I went to a University hospital, had a very good surgeon and medical team, it just happened. I'm saying all this cause things can go wrong, not everyone soars through with flying colors. I'm 3 weeks out and really not happy with my decision to get this done. My hubby asked why I did it in the first place. Well, I lost 40lbs pre op, I wanted to use a plan that I could keep the weight off, my diabetes was so bad I was on a 5 times concentrated insulin, and I was the fattest girl in the room. Just for starters. When you ask about recovery time, some will say 3 days, or longer. Some had super experiences some not so super. When you ask about pain, some will say, no pain, some a lot of pain. You can't put us all in a nice tidy folder and say this is how it is for everyone. We're all different and react differently. So prepare for the worst and be blessed with the best. Have a good relationship with your surgeon and medical team. But don't think it's gonna be pain and complication free, I sure hope it is for you, just be prepared. And keep your eyes wide open! Best of blessings to you and your journey!
