  1. I really need advice from anyone in my situation. I am 18 mths post of VSG & recently found out I am 5 wks pregnant. I was told I am considered high risk due to having the VSG & my age. I seen my doctor for the 1st time today, to discuss my options & he stated he wasn't ready to discuss a game plan that I am to come back in 2 wks for a follow up then we will discuss. He stated for me NOT to take prenatal Vitamins & to currently keep eating as I have been. At my intake appointment last Thursday, they took 6 vials blood, then again today took another vial, & I am to go back in 48 hours for them to take another vial. I really would like to carry this baby full term, but not prenatal vitamins? How am I to have a safe pregnancy if I don't start right away?

How Long Do I Have To Wait

Hi, On this forum I've seen women get pregnant as early as 5 mths out, I was 18 mths out when I got pregnant, but it really jus depends on your body and if it's ready. However, I don't want to alarm you but have you had your gallbladder checked for stones? At 7 wks I had what I thought to be an anexity attack. I was taken to the hospital by ambulance, due to doubling over and unable to walk. After lots of testing I was informed I had gallbladder stones and it had flared up. Of course I was in shock, my gastric surgeon never mentioned it nor did any testing on my gallbladder. My OB/GYN stated being in the 1st trimester you can not do anything for a gallbladder issue that it causes a risk of miscarriage, and that maybe the flare up was just a one time occurrence, that we would just have watch it closely. I am now 16 wks no more flare ups, so we thought all was well, until last Friday night when I was admitted to the hospital for pancreatitis. My liver enzymes were extremely elevated along with other issues, and yesterday they removed my gallbladder. My surgeon stated he was suprised that my gastric doctor did not check for gallbladder issues before or after surgery and that he was glad we caught it now before the baby got any bigger. If it were to have gone untreated there is no way that you can carry your baby full term, as the pain is so excruciating and it places stress on you and the baby. I was released today and of course I am in lots of pain but I feel that it's worth it so that I can my baby full term. My doctors were great and made sure the baby was never in any harm. Before during and after my surgery all my doctors made sure to check the health of the baby and that my baby was not in distress. I can tell you from experience this for sure is something you don't want to go through, so make sure your health and all organs are 100% before getting pregnant. I wish you well.
  3. I sure hope someone replies and gives some insight & yes we aren't normal. I do have health issues. I've had a stroke (not related to vsg) I have preclampsia and my last pregnancy my daughter was born with a heart defect. I also suffer from a major anxeity disorder. So there are many concerns but God has blessed us both with new additions and all will be well. Good luck to you and God Bless.
  4. Congrats on your new addition. I had the sleeve Feb 2010 and lost 100 lbs (30 lbs shy of my goal weight) I am now 14 wks along and my doctor said he only wanted me to gain 15 - 25 lbs but I find myself jus like you with the eating. I find myself eating a whole sandwich or salad or a breast of chicken, which before I could only eat a 3rd of that. I am so afraid of gaining to much weight and not being able to get it off after delivery. I look forward to replies about this topic.
  5. Once I hit 8 weeks doc said to take flinestone vitamins. However, I have been taking an adult chewable which seem to be ok and doc approved. I don't suffer from nauseau or anything from them. I am now 12 wks and baby is doing good. It's my health that's in question. In 08 I had major surgery which caused blood clots that went undiagnosed and due to that I suffered a stroke. My youngested will be 3 in December, and I had preclampsia (needing to hospitalized) she also was born with Pulmonary Value Stenosis. I have more health issues so I am listed as high risk and have had many series of blood test done. (Waiting on results) I think if I can get past this second trimester without the preclampsia I have not getting any worse baby and I will be ok. Thank you so much for checking in.
  6. It was my OB/GYN who stated not to take prenatal vitamins, stated didn't want to change anything until he knew if this was a vital pregnancy or not. I would think no matter what things needs to change now that I am pregnant.
  7. It's jus so scary, he says he wants to make sure it's viable before committing to a plan. I thought that was strange, sure I see his point, but I'd rather start right away than not at all, and then be told because you act on it that's why lost the baby. Can't talk to my husband as he does not want to become attached, so his belief right now is that I will miscarry. I will look for that thread, thanks.
