    Vsg & Gastroparesis

Believe it or not, I have only had a mild flare up since surgery & my Dr had me take a Tylenol.
  2. I have had gastroperesis for over 10 years. I also had fibromyalgia, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, high sugars & liver enzyme levels, gerd, etc... At one point I was taking 42 pills a day. I sought a second opinion, only to be told that my Dr that I was previously seeing was doing all that could be done for me. So began my search for alternate treatments. I went to a holistic dr, looked into acupuncture, went to massage & physical therapy, so on & so on. After no success, I decided to look into other options. I found a surgical approach could possibly be the answer. I looked into a pacemaker implant, lapband & decided I didn't really want a foreign object in my body long term. That's when I discovered the Vertical Sleeve Gasterectomy. I figured, why not...worse case scenario was it wouldnt work & i would be back at square 1. Unfortunately, my insurance would not cover it. I made the decision to go to MX & was sleeved on 09/04/12. It was much less expensive than having it done in the states. I have no regrets, it's the best decision I've made. The Dr's & the staff were excellent. I am proud to announce that I am off all meds & my blood pressure has resumed to a normal level. I've had a couple of minor issues but in my opinion it has been very successful!! I know it's only been 4 weeks & I have a long road to recovery but I'm looking forward to a happier, healthier life. I hope my story helps some of you out there who are also suffering with gastroperesis.

    My First Post

Daniele- it takes a lot of self reflection & courage to make this life changing decision. Congrats on your first step toward a happier, healthier life! You're going to do great! Think of the surgery as a gift, not everyone gets this opportunity. As your date approaches, stay focused, stay strong & do not doubt yourself. If you have any questions, don't be afraid to ask. Also, do as much research as you can. We are all here for you

I was sleeved in MX, my ins wouldn't cover it. Dr Almanza was terrific & I couldn't have asked for better care.

I'm In Az Looking For A Buddy

I'm originally transplanted from IL & have lived here the last 13 years. There are a lot of things I miss but wouldn't trade it for the snow & cold. I do sometimes miss the city life but when I hit that traffic in PHX, it makes me appreciate the life I have here in SV

Buffy-I completely understand. Sierra Vista is a small town & not everyone who has lived here likes it. Not much to do, especially if you're young. We usually go to Tucson for the week end if we just want to get out of town. I was in PHX last week end but it's a bit too hot for me.

Toyaboo- you have been in my thoughts & prayers. Hoping you will be in good health soon. Have they given you any idea of how long you might be in the hospital? Who was your surgeon? Sounds like your husband should be seeking some advice from an atty. keep us posted

    Stalls.... Hate Them!

Always glad to share informative info with my fellow sleevers
  9. Sounds like we're basically at the same stage of foods. I'm feeling pretty good but sure I'm lacking getting all my proteins in as well. Hit a stall about a week ago & haven't lost weight since then. I'm down a total of 25 lbs. hopefully this stall won't last long.
  10. I like the Atkins advantage new flavors- caramel & mocha (both made with real coffee) add ice & blend....makes an oh so yummy frappacino

I Need Help And Im Very Sad

I like the Pure Protein Shakes (ready to drink) from WalMart. I take the Vanilla flavored shake, add half a banana, a few drops of vanilla extract, add ice & blend. They are low calorie & taste good. Hope this helps

I would imagine the foods that are higher in proteins are going to give you that full feeling. Remember, carbs & sugars will make you crave more carbs & sugars & you won't have that full feeling or you will be hungry more often.

Post Op September Sleevers, Roll Call

Remember, 1 step at a time, 1 foot in front of the other. There are going to be many changes that we will go thru. I am 4 weeks out tomorrow. In the last 4 weeks, I have sometimes taken 1 step forward & 2 steps back. Our bodies need time to heal. I am currently battling head hunger. I'm not stomach hungry but my head tells me I want that baked potato, piece if bread, slice of pizza. I have really had to work hard at refocusing. I have stopped weighing myself daily because I was getting frustrated & depressed when I wouldn't lose weight for days on end. We need to be there for each other in these times of need. We are all going to struggle from time to time. Think of your surgery as a gift. A gift for a second chance at a healthier, happier life. We have been given a guide, not a quick fix, that we need to work on, in order to eat right. It's up to each of us whether or not to follow it. I wish all of you the best of luck & will keep you in my thoughts & prayers.

    Stalls.... Hate Them!

When I hit a stall, I increase my protein & work out a little longer or walk a little farther. Don't weigh yourself every day. (scales are EVIL!!! LOL)

Suegirl- I was having same problem. Get yourself some lactaid & take that right before your protein drink. It really helped me a lot.
  25. Oh, I forgot...I'm also on iron & calcium...I take those late afternoon
