nyxa got a reaction from shellbell125 in Too Depressed For Surgery... What?
sounds like me.. except i'm not on any meds (that deal with my mental health- am on a beta blocker to slow my heart rate & hydrochlorothiazide, though.).. when i read your story, i laughed because i am concidering weight loss surgery & if they denied you because of being depressed and passive dependant, then i'm screwed.. not because i thought it was funny.. or even remotely amusing.. i feel bad for you & i'm sincerely very sorry that you didn't pass. i hope you'll be able to figure out what's going on & fix it, so you can get your surgery.
it sounds a bit like a catch 22, though... "i'm depressed because i'm fat.. but you won't allow me to get surgery to fix my problem.. so that just makes me more depressed & probably more fat!!!".... dumbest thing i've ever heard. :/ well maybe not EVER, but it's in the top 5, for sure.

Spice doesn't bother me one bit. I love a hot bowl of hot & sour Soup (add vinegar & Sriracha to actually get it hot and sour). Still love my jalapenos, and Cayenne, and Thai food (I always order it spicy+), salsas, etc. The spice doesn't seem to bother me at all. Something like milk or a banana will get my GERD going long before vindaloo.
Onions/pickles never bothered my GERD (and still don't). And I still have the occasional "sneak" of a sip of vinegar, pickle juice or Worcestershire sauce. No problems.
Unfortunately, that's all irrelevant, It's very much a "wait and see" game.

I suppose I'll have to watch the wording of all future posts. Wouldn't want to end up in Sex Addicts Anonymous. LOL you are all too much. and I can't tell you how happy I am to know I may be able to keep my spicy flair.

I'm over a year out and I can enjoy the same spicy food I liked pre-op. And I do mean spicy! I love Sriracha, sweet chili sauce, jalapenos, and Valentina hot sauce. I can also now eat tangy foods, but I still cut my lemonade with Water. And when drinking margaritas, I order them short to cut down on the sour extras.
It takes a while. My operation was in May 2011 and last summer I couldn't eat stone fruit (one of my favs!) because it was just too acidic for me. Fortunately I also love watermelon and it was the first fruit I could tolerate post-op.
If you like sour or spicy foods, just go slow and try a little here and there. Before you know it, you'll be able to add them back in.

I'm starting to see how much head hunger I have vs. stomach hunger. It's amazing how much food played a role in my life and how much I need to overcome my addiction to food. Thanks for the kind words it helps me to know the support is there

I'm always going up and down a few pounds. I would find it odd that anyone would *never* fluctuate. Especially a woman...

Do a search for regrets, and you will find people who feel that way the first month or two especially. We are all different, but I was so READY for this surgery that I never had feelings of regret. I knew what to expect and things were not as bad as I had mentally prepared for. Don't get me wrong, I went through about a 2 month period of feeling tired and a little blue.... but I had read enough to know that was very common. And like everyone said, it did get better.
And look at me now, getting fitter, looking better, outstanding bloodwork, no more high blood pressure... etc etc.
I am positively thrilled with my results. You know what, I think I am starting to believe this is going to work - I have given away my bigger clothes! It is real this time.

I totally understand! I am not a nurse but my biggest concern was laying there with random flab hanging out. I wore my own pjs (loose, lightweight cotton) the morning after surgery, right after my catheter was removed. My nurse unhooked the IV for me so i could change. My doctor was impressed that I was in regular clothes and moving around!

Oh, actingnurse, I have a soft spot for NICU nurses. My son was in NICU for 8 days and it was the absolute scariest few days of my life! He's a strapping 6'3" 22 year old now, but I remember how sweet and helpful the nurses were back then. You have an amazing, terrible, oh so important job!!!

thank you for your responses! i appreciate it very much!
i was just curious if it was even possible.. that is/was a big deciding factor of even getting the surgery for me lol of course i'm not against anybody eating meat or whatever else that they like, i just am more attracted to the vegetarian/vegan lifestyle.
hemp is indeed a very good one. you can also eat almonds and stuff like that.. plus they have Protein Shakes and all kinds of other stuff. i just didn't know if the stomach could tolerate it after surgery or how all that works i'm a newbie to this.. so.. forgive my ignorance. lol that's why i'm here afterall! to learn!
my doctor keeps telling me i'm a candidate for surgery & reminding me of my pending doom and demise if i don't lose my weight.. figured i'd join here & see what others are saying & see their experiences before i jump the gun & do something i'll regret later...
