  1. i saw the post about beer & thought i should ask. if i can't eat kimchi or spicy food, i'm not getting this surgery, because i could roll around in those & die happy. lol not literally, of course.. and i don't mean spicy + greasy.. like mexican.. i'm specifically thinking of Korean, Thai & Indian food.. i love spice. mom swears i'm half dragon. lol
  2. just curious if you can join the military after you've had wls?
  3. just curious if you can be a vegetarian or vegan if you're sleeved, as long as you meet the nutritional requirements that the doctor gave you?.. everyone always asks how they get their Protein, but they have vegan protein powders and stuff, as well as leafy green vegetables & stuff. everything has protein in it. alrighty, thanks for your time.
  4. is this normal?... i just talked with my doc yesterday about getting the sleeve... i imagined being able to get back to bodybuilding well before 8 months out... (i'm a female, i know my comment there makes it sound very masculine, but i assure you folks i'm a girl. lol) anyway.. wow.. :/ if and when i get sleeved, i want to return to exercising as soon as humanly possible. how long are you usually weak like this? i don't mean that as offensively as it came out... (i don't mean it to be offensive at all, honestly).. just shocking that you can't do crunches or situps and it's 2/3 of a year!
  5. picking up new hobbies may help, too.. if you can get out & about & meet new people with similar interests or even do free things, like art galleries/museums, etc.. getting fresh air in your lungs & getting your mind focused on DOING something besides lounging around the house will help.. like chris powell says.. get comfortable being uncomfortable... do something outside of your comfort zone. actively seek new stuff to do.. doesn't have to cost money.. can be anything.. volunteer work, etc.. focus attention on someone else or something else besides yourself.
  6. Any of you try this? You can use it 1 to 1 ratio as sugar, bake & cook with it & it's supposed to be safe for diabetics.. I am not diabetic, but I know that I would never want to use Splenda, because it's horrible for your body and a lot of people dislike Stevia... So just curious if anyone's tried Swerve?.. sugar-free baking and cooking. Many people ask if Swerve is stevia. Swerve does not contain stevia or lo han guo. Unlike other natural sweeteners that have a bitter aftertaste, Swerve tastes remarkably like sugar and has a clean, sweet taste."
  7. i adapted it from this: http://allrecipes.co...h-coconut-milk/ Ingredients 1 teaspoon ground cumin 1 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper (less if you don't want spicy) 1 teaspoon ground coriander 2 chicken breasts, halved salt & pepper to taste.. for me this was 1/4 teaspoon of both salt & pepper 1 onion, chopped 1 tablespoon minced fresh (or in my case, grated frozen) ginger 2 jalapenos (remove the seeds and veins in them if you want them to be less spicy) 1/4 cup bell pepper (i used red) 2 cloves garlic (or in my case like 4 cloves.. lol) 3 tomatoes, seeded & chopped (i left the seeds in.. you can use canned tomatoes if you want, but i don't like the tinny taste they have.) 12 oz almond milk 2 oz coconut milk parsley, for garnish.. Directions In a large ziploc bag, mix salt & pepper, as well as the cumin, cayenne pepper, turmeric, and coriander. Place the chicken in the bag & make sure that it is coated as possible on all sides with the spice mixture. Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Place the chicken in the skillet. Cook until no longer pink and juices run clear. Remove from heat and set aside. Heat the remaining olive oil in the skillet. Cook and stir the onion, ginger, peppers, and garlic until tender. Mix in the tomatoes and continue cooking 5 to 8 minutes. Stir in the almond/coconut milk. pour mixture over the chicken & let simmer until sauce thickens. Garnish with the parsley & enjoy. you can freeze the excess & eat it again at a later date. low carb, lots of Protein & some veggies! mom & i just had some for dinner & she said she wants me to make it again. lol gonna whip up some avocado chocolate pudding for dessert. http://penniesonapla...colate-pudding/ (i use swerve instead of sugar & almond milk instead of milk)

    Don't Eat Fish...help!

hi.. she said in her post that she doesn't eat any seafood... lump crab meat is seafood. so no, she doesn't eat it. good try, though. it does help if you read the post content & not just the title.
  10. not really enough to go on to form an opinion.. or to offer any suggestions... hope things work out for you.
  11. congrats on losing 101 lbs! my doctor told me i should only eat 2 meals a day... so at least yours wants you to eat 3. i am sorry to sound rude or mean, i don't have that intent.. but i have to ask.. why did you bother having surgery and why does everyone suggest for everyone else that you follow what your doctor says to a t... then you go get a checkup & blow off what your doctor says, because you think you know better?... i mean... why did you go to him in the first place, if you don't want to listen to him? did you ask him why he wanted you to cut back on your food intake?.. personally, i don't let my doctor leave the room until he answers all my questions to my satisfaction. i do my own research about things online & i come to forums like this & then i ask him why he wants me to do or take certain things.. and i tell him right then if i'm willing to do it or not. lol i mean.. i want him to know what i'm doing to myself, so he can help me.. he saved my life once already.. but i let him know when i'm not comfortable with something or if i don't understand or whatever. if you go the medical route, then you have to believe that the doctors are supposed to be there to help you & there's a reason he wants you to eat the way he said.... take my opinion cum grano salis (with a grain of salt)..

Full Liquid - What To Eat?

i'd be eating the heck out of some cream of wheat. i love it. lol they have organic farina cereal by bob's red mill on amazon for like $12/$13 dollars per CASE of it with FREE shipping if you subscribe! (you can cancel your subscription after you get the package!) also, if you're lactose intolerant.. you don't have to use lactaid stuff.. just try an alternative milk... i like the so delicious brand almond milk.. the plain is good, and has 5g of Protein in it.. the vanilla is awesome, too. there's also cashew milk, soy milk, hemp milk... all of which would have more protein & less carbs than regular milk and no chemical gunk, like lactaid. soy doesn't taste very good, in my opinion, but you may like it. rice milk is higher in carbs, but i like it, too. it's the most "neutral" flavor & has the consistency & color of milk. coconut milk would be another option, but it has a coconut flavor & anything you make with it will taste coconutty. you can have icecream and pudding pops and stuff like that if you want... but your two lists laid it out pretty good.. what you can have. i'd be making paletas, fudgecicles and cream pops and eating cream of wheat.. and maybe some pudding or something. but that's just me. lol

    What To Order?

it was in the mid to high 60's with rain today where i live in oklahoma. pretty nice! glad you got something you enjoyed, chili! i know what you mean about kids.... i hate going out to eat, because of people's horrible children.. i joined a few facebook groups for people who think there should be restaurants where kids aren't allowed, or at least where there's a curfew or a "family" section & a "adult" section.. so that people without kids don't have to be annoyed & deal with all that craziness.. example of what i mean: http://www.dailymail...ost_read_module <<< some mom brought her kid's potty training chair to a restaurant, stripped the kid & let her use the bathroom right in front of everyone... and there was a business meeting going on & everything... totally inappropriate. i don't hate kids or anything like that, but i think people need to be better parents & stop letting them run around like chickens with their heads cut off & annoying everyone... :/

    Sleeve To Bypass

if you go that route, you'll have to take Vitamins and supplements the rest of your life. if you don't, you will die. you also have to have you blood tested constantly.. it's a pain in the rear. surgery may not be the answer.. you need to get your head right... like someone else said.. once you do that, what if it doesn't work?.. where would you go from there?
  18. lmao.. xD lol i feel for you! <3 lol i know! i would have felt really bad for you! but lol that was funny. you will be successful! and everybody here is behind you 100% you won't lose our support! we'll be cheering you along the whole time! just keep on keeping on, cause you can do it! y'know that saying... slow & steady wins the race?.. well it's true! you are & will continue to lose your weight.

    Pre-Op Diet

depends on your surgeon.. some have you do 2 weeks liquid only diet.. Protein shakes & Water.. some have you eat low carb & do Protein Shakes the last couple days.. some don't have a pre-op diet at all. most common (from what i've seen on the board) is the 2 week liquid diet.
  20. are you from the future?.. cause it's only 9/14... lol

    What To Order?

boiled crab, shrimp cocktail, baked salmon.. some kinda soft fish or crustacean (or as my aunt calls 'em-- sea bugs) that is boiled or baked, but not fried. and a nice tall glass of Water or iced tea. (so you can sip on that after you're done eating, if your friends haven't finished or you stick around & talk, like my family & friends always like to do lol) can't go wrong with crab legs.. ever.. well, unless you're allergic to shellfish or have to eat Kosher or hallal... then you will go wrong with crab legs.

    Children

lol no time like the present to teach them about good eating habits.. that way they don't end up fat & have a hard life like the rest of us. so depending on their age, you can just make them eat what you eat or don't eat at all. (by that, i mean if they can eat solid food, they can have what you have) a bit of tough love that they will get used to. when they're hungry enough, they'll eat... and it's not bad food, because you'll be making it to suit your tastes. kids don't need all that processed garbage anyway.. when they scream and cry and whine and beg and etc.. it's not as bad as they're making it out to be, it's them detoxing the junk out of their system & it will pass.. may take a week or two, but their taste buds will change, just like yours will... my dad had to eat what was prepared for them, even if he didn't like it.. and he wasn't fat until he met my mom.. now we're all fat & trying to get on target again. lol but he's the least out of shape among us. to make the transition easier, you could tell them if they eat something, you'll take them to the park/zoo/aquarium/museum/amusement park/whatever... this is also good, positive reinforcement, because they'll learn that after they eat a healthy meal, they can go play.. which will 1.) help you tire them out, so they go to bed easier & are less fussy.. 2.) help keep them (and you) active, and 3.) get them (and you) away from the computer/tv/video games & out into the real world, interacting with people, DOING stuff... all of which will help them keep & maintain a healthy weight & lifestyle & be sociable, well rounded individuals... not to mention you'll be spending QUALITY time with your kids, doing something besides eating.

Had A Bad Week... Can't Stop Eating... :(

i don't know about everyone else, but i learn about recipes from all kinda stuff... watching shows like hungry girl, or cooking shows that are on discovery health, reading tons of recipes online, talking with friends (i have a facebook group that is a recipe exchange), and just using google.. i also used to live in korea & learned how to cook a lot of korean foods.. which a lot of them are low carb, naturally (if you leave out the rice.. i actually lost 30lb my first month there!) or they can be easily modified to be low carb.. or i will look up recipes for ingredients i have on hand on google.. or look up something like "easy spicy chicken curry recipe".. or i will see something that looks good on tv or somewhere else online & modify it to suite my own needs, so that i can have it.. like the brazillian chicken recipe i posted last night.. i found it on all recipes, because i looked up recipes that use coconut milk.. i bought a bunch of cans of coconut milk, because i love coconut anything & they were on sale for 29 cents a can.. i also bought a bunch of avocados because they were 29 cents a piece... lol so anyway.. coconut milk (in a can) only has 6 carbs, but has 50g of fat & is 400 calories per 1 cup.. so i lessened the coconut milk by only using a couple ounces of it (i measured) & mixing it with some so delicious unsweetened almond milk (so delicious is the brand). it gave the flavor of the coconut that i wanted, but without all the fat & fewer carbs & calories & gave me more Protein, from using the almond milk. i also added some red bell pepper, because it needed to be used & did a few little tweaks to make it my own. one easy thing you could do, that won't take up a lot of your time, is look up some low carb crock pot/slow cooker recipes. it's pretty hard to fail at those. lol throw everything into the slow cooker before you go to work, come home to a prepared meal.. easy peasy! you can refrigerate the leftovers, or freeze them, so you don't have to eat the same thing over & over again, but will have a nice variety of home made "microwave" meals eventually. low carb/low fat slow cooker recipes: http://recipes.sparkpeople.com/cookbooks.asp?cookbook=356647 http://www.sheknows.com/food-and-recipes/articles/807987/lowcarb-slow-cooker-recipes http://www.yummly.com/recipes/low-fat-low-carb-crock-pot in regards to korean food that's low carb.. one easy one is doenjang chigae (dwen jong jig-ay).. http://www.maangchi....doenjang-chigae << nix the potato, add more seafood. problem solved. lol so then it becomes a soybean paste broth.. protein.. with tofu.. protein.. and seafood.. protein.. the only carbs would be the onion, pepper & zucchini, but they're low carb anyway & add a nice flavor to the Soup.. if you can't have shellfish or seafood, add shredded chicken, beef, ground turkey/chicken or a couple different kinds of fish that you can have. just cut it up into bite sized chunks. maangchi has a big list of online grocers as well as korean grocery stores in various countries and states. so you'll likely be able to find somewhere to buy the bean paste if you wanted to try it. hope that helped.
  25. it doesn't. i use it myself. i was worried about that, too. lol truvia is made out of stevia & stevia is an acquired taste. but on the plus side, it won't rot your teeth & doesn't spike blood sugar. i dunno if swerve will rot your teeth or not, but it doesn't spike blood sugar, so that's good!
