    The Pre-Op Diet

Yes the premiers are good. I also like the Eas carb advantage. These are both great ready to drink options. Go to the Vitamin Shoppe or GNC and grab some Nectar samples to mix up at home. RTD shakes are nice, but they are pricey. The advantage of Nectar is it really doesn't have a protein shake taste. Unjury is very similar to Nectar in terms of taste, protein, and calories, but lacks all of the different flavors that Nectar comes in. And one other piece of advice, stir the Nectar and Unjury don't shake unless you want tons of foam.

    Refined beans

You nailed it. That's exactly what I was going to say.

    Unjury?

unjury is great, but it always seems to clump up bad. nectar is very similar to Unjury in terms of Protein, taste, and calories. I like the taste of Nectar better. Fuzzy Naval and Caribbean Cooler are two of my favorites. Nectar clumps but not as bad as Unjury IMO. Of course both of them are not shakes! They are more like stirs. You shake them and you will have a foamy mess.

    Questions

I'm a big dude myself. 6' 6" with a heaviest weight of 430. I never was a big drinker, but more of a big eater. People that have this surgery can still drink, but you have to have a lot less. And I would stay away from beer just because of the carbonation and the problems with the sleeve filling up with the gas. It's just one of those things. You have to stare down your demons and decide who's going to win. We all face this in some way or another. Give up the alcohol if possible. If not, then cut back a lot and ask the doctor how long until you can have some. I can't remember what mine said, but I think it was around 3 months postop.
  5. That's great. I can tell you the most important thing to do is walk as soon as you are stable enough on your feet after surgery. That and burp and fart a lot too :-)

    Met my surgeon

You will do fine. The psych eval for me was nothing. You fill out a bunch of paperwork and meet the psychologist. The person I saw pretty much told me straight up that he wasn't there to try to psychoanalyze me or pick apart my thoughts when I walked into his office. He just went over the paperwork I filled out and told me what to expect, what pitfalls to be aware of, and what to do if you find yourself in trouble. He also talked about other items like your support structure with family and friends and his support group. I walked out of his office starting a good relationship knowing that his door was open if needed in the future. I think this is 90% of the focus of the psych eval. He was really there more for my mental preparation for surgery more than a "yes" or "no" on the surgery. My EGD was done with full sedation. I'm not sure if this common practice or not. I was knocked out for probably 10 minutes or less. I woke up in the recovery room, took two or three good full breaths, got dressed, and then walked out the door with my wife driving. I was back to work 30 minutes later. I felt normal a few hours later. I did two weeks of Protein shakes. The ones I had were purchased (and required) from the doctor and were extremely filling. I dropped nearly 20 pounds in the preop diet phase. This will inspire you to succeed. It will be much easier than you think.

    Non refrigerated snacks

I buy these spicy pumpkin seeds from the whole foods bulk area. They are awesome. I've always loved spicy food, but now I crave it in postop life.

    Anyone make turkey burger?

I've had those. They are outstanding. I know of a few recipes off of Pinterest. I would highly recommend joining to find good recipes for WLS.

    A Good Jerky

I know people have mixed feelings about Jerky. It's good Protein per oz, but it has loads of sodium. After searching high and low in every supermarket around, I think I've found the best in terms of sodium. It's Sprouts brand turkey jerky. It packs a modest 270 grams of sodium per oz. It even beats Whole Foods which is 380 (I think) and the next runner up Oberto which is over 400. Some of the worst brands come in at 660 or more. This is the best I've found from a commercially produced product.

    DFW Sleevers Healthy Meal Option

This looks like the same kind of concept. They are all over the DFW area. https://www.myfitfoods.com/

    DFW Sleevers Healthy Meal Option

I'll have to check that out. Another thing I like to do is go to Whole Foods with the wife and kids. The kids get pizza slices. my wife gets soup or something from the hot bar, and I go for the chicken and turkey dishes. It's priced per pound and self serve, so you take what you want. Most of their stuff is pretty healthy too.

I am now a master farter!

It varies with me. I wear a CPAP at night with a pretty high setting. If my 3 year old son sleeps in bed with us, then look out. I have to sleep on my side when he's in there. This means too much pressure and lots of swallowed air. No lying, I can bust a 30 second fart in the morning no problem (and probably several more during the night).

I am now a master farter!

    Now that's funny!
  14. Good luck! In my case I couldn't swallow anything until 24 hours post op after a leak test. There was nothing about swallowing saliva. I had no problems tolerating the fluids required the day after surgery. I can drink pretty fast without issue today. I'm more than 2 months postop. If I try to drink too fast, I will have some pain. Like everything else, YMMV.
  15. I felt so bad for this lady. Kudos for her and doctor on publishing this to Youtube. Yes there is a full nudity and full surgical gore, but it's done for educational purposes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gFV4cLcxfGw I'm sure I will need some plastic surgery, but hopefully not near as much as she needs. So far everything is still firm except my gut. I have another 100 pounds to go.
  16. Just focus on hitting your goals in terms of nutrition, exercise, and water intake. Take one day at a time. Keep a tape measure handy. You are probably dropping inches and not pounds. I stair step myself. A week to 10 days of nothing and then 6 or 8 pounds in a few day. Rinse, repeat, etc, etc.
  17. NSV today. I had to take a link out of my watch. Too loose to wear. My wedding band is loose too, I'm sure it will need resizing eventually.

what is your favorite snack post op

I absolutely love the Weight Watchers smoked mozzarella sticks. The jalapeño ones are pretty good too. So much better than a plain old cheese stick.

    Something Interesting

I tried something interesting that tasted very good today. I normally buy plain greek yogurt and put in a little vanilla and splenda to sweeten it (I can't for the life of me find greek yogurt without sugar sweetner). I dumped a little cinnamon in there this time along with the usual vanilla and splenda. It tastes awesome! I'm surprised the yogurt makers don't have this as an offering. It rocks!

Those all sound good, I'll have to try them. The Chai sounds very yummy.

    Attention February 2013 Sleeve Buddies!

I got by with no pain meds either. I'm glad I didn't take them, but a little disappointed that I couldn't listen to my Pink Floyd records while being comfortably numb. Oh well!

    Attention February 2013 Sleeve Buddies!

I like the jerky too. It's nice to keep at my desk to insure that I get the protein power ups the doctor wants in the morning and afternoon. There are times when I'm on the phone for 3 or more hours straight and can't grab something to eat from the fridge.

    Attention February 2013 Sleeve Buddies!

I'm a Valentines day sleever. It's my two month surgiversary. I'm down 55 from the date of surgery and 72 from the start of my preop diet (10 weeks ago) . Yeah it's a lot, but when start at 397 the weight loss is much faster due the amount of calories required to maintain that weight. I work out a minimum of 30 minutes per day everyday, but most days are between 60 and 80 minutes. As far as food goes I'm eating around 800 to 900 calories with at least 90 grams of protein (I'll burn about 500 - 600 off at the gym). No problems tolerating anything. No vomiting ever after surgery. I'm drinking plenty, I'll typically stop counting after I hit 64 oz in the early afternoon. I'm guessing that I'm drinking at least 100 oz a day. Everything is just peachy and way easier than I expected. My body still looks pretty good, but I will probably need plastic surgery on my stomach. It's the only place that I'm concerned with at this time. I have about 100 more pounds to drop before I hit my goal. I hope to be there by fall, I know things will slow down with the weight going away.
