  1. Hey there, I have been on several international flights since my sleeve and things went well for me. As you know, airplane food isnt great for our diet and not yummy anyway so if you can, it is good to bring some snacks. Drink lots of water and I always wear compression socks. I havent had any negative experiences, just excited to be able to fit into a seat without worrying if the seat belt would fit. Happy travels!
  2. Hey, it will hurt a little for a while but just try to take it slow. I also found that straight water was hard on my tummy. Try adding some sugar free flavoring. I really like the liquid Mio drops, they seem to be easier on my tummy but stay away from the citrusy flavors like lemonade etc because they were hard on me too. It wont be long till you can drink more. Hope you feel better soon.
  3. Congrats! Cant wait to hear how you progress. Take it easy, walk as much as you can and focus on getting in your liquids. Don't get frustrated, just take things day by day and before you know it you will be approaching your goal! Hope your healing goes well!
  4. First off, I am sure that there have been people that do die from this surgery but I havent known nor heard of any. But with all surgical procedures, there are those risks that you have to decide if you are willing to take. For me, I was killing myself anyway with food and the problems that my weight was causing so for me, this was the obvious choice. Do your research, ask lots of questions and dig into this website and ask questions here too. I can honestly say that it has been the best thing that I could have done. Yes there are issues but I am so thankful that i have done this for myself and for my family. I can now keep up with the kids and the husband and dont have to sit on the sidelines anymore! Hoping that you will know what to do very soon!
  5. It boggles the mind how many calories are in fast food! And there is no wonder that I gained so much weight being a mom on the go and it just makes life so much easier when you can run through the drive through and pick up your ready made food for you and your family. Man, I was doing this to my kids too! I have found that now that I track my calories on MFP ap that I am much more aware of what goes into my mouth and what I stay away from. My husband has gotten on board as well and if we go out to eat, we look up the options and try to weigh out the best option. Before, my main thought was how to decided between my two favorite choices at a restaurant. Sure is eye opening!
  6. yeah i understand your pain! I was addicted to Diet Dr Pepper! Havent had one in over a year now and happy about that but still miss it from time to time. I cant do plain Water either unless it is icy icy cold and only on occasion. I do alot of mio and disani drops in my water but I am not sure what type of sweetner is in them. I keep lemons around the house and make my own ice cold lemonade with whatever sweetener I have around the house (except for sugar). I also make iced tea. Hope this helps! I feel your pain!!!
  7. Yep late night quiet, relaxing...just think of how it would be without the sleeve. It would be only NORMAL for you (me) back then to sit on the couch and veg with a bucket of popcorn or chips or Cookies whatever and that is after eating a big meal. And why? Well, probably from boredom, maybe from loneliness but probably because that is what our habits are too. I have horrible head hunger and I battle it especially at night when my husband travels and I am all alone. I know it is a process though, I have stopped having any easy to eat things around the house. If I am going to eat badly, then I will have to put forth lots of effort to start from scratch to do so, I dont have any crackers, cookies chips etc hanging around. I also read this somewhere and it has stuck with me. It said, if you arent hungry enough to eat an apple, then you are really not hungry. So, in those times, I do try to think about that and I do a good majority of the time choose a few apple slices with a little Peanut Butter. Hope this helps but I know that you will just have to fight this battle within yourself and find what works for you. Also I have been really diligent in logging all of my food into the My Fitness Pal Ap. I can see how each bite I takes affects me! I even write down when I cheat! Even though no one sees it but me. So if you arent logging your food, you might want to look into it. I just recently started doing it over the past few months and find that it really helps. (You can also get on the VSG site when you feel this way and try to give your mind something else to think about)
  8. I love it! Congratulations for your weight loss. So happy to know that you have the love and support of your daddy! Keep up the great work!!!!
  9. My Surgeon and NUT have never said that I couldnt use a straw. I didnt for a long time because of all the people who have been told not to. Now after 9 months, I do use one and it doesnt bother me and I am able to drink much more using it. But I would wait a while for your new tummy to heal before you try it. Have a super day!
  10. Hey there! It wont be long now! Glad that you have such a great support group around you and that you have the experience of your momma too! Cant wait to hear how it goes!!!! Take care!
  11. So happy for you! Keep up the positive attitude! You are doing amazing!!!!! You have lots to be happy about!
  12. Woo-Hoo! He wont even recognize you! I know you are happy! Way to go girl and these major milestones are so worth celebrating!!! Keep it up!
  13. Yeah for you and the wifey! You guys have a great time!!!! Enjoy that first feeling of sitting in the seat on the airplane!!!
  14. Saying a prayer for you right now. Please let us know.
  15. That was a big NSV for me too! I find that I still reach for the beachtowel first when grabbing a towel, now it almost goes around me twice! woo-hoo Great job!!! I love the pic, you look as happy as you sound in your post! Keep it up!
  16. The name of my new stomach is "Dolores". I had my sleeve done in Lima, Peru and so dolores means "pains" haha. I was on medication when I named it, but at the time it really fit! haha
  17. There are days that I feel that way and other days that I feel famished! Just do your best to get all your liquids and protein in. Use those days of not being hungry to evaluate what you are eating and try to gain some perspective for those days that you want to eat everything in sight. Isn't this a weird feeling????
  18. I have had a glucose test since my sleeve (not pregnancy related though). It was not fun! It was the longest two hours! I could barely get down the liquid without crying and then I almost threw up several times and the nurse told me that if I threw up, that we would have to start all over again. Anyway, hope you dont have to take it. It was not pleasant at all!
  19. Well I worked with a nutritionist several years ago when surgery wasnt even on my radar and it worked but when I wasnt being followed regularly by the NUT, I gained the weight back. When I decided to have surgery, this NUT was not supportive because I had proven that I could lose the weight. Needless to say, I have a different NUT now and she is very supportive and really understands the sleeve and what I need to do. Hope that things go well for you. It was a great decision for me!
  20. Yucky! I hope you feel better soon!
  21. Hope you recuperate quickly! It wont be long till you are sitting on the losers bench!
  22. Hey Sweetie! Ok, lets flush the goldfish!! haha I also do love goldfish crackers! So I can sympathize. The one thing that I have been doing lately is using the My fitness pal ap and recording everything that goes in my mouth! My husband has also been using it so it helps to have him trying to figure out how many calories etc are in something, plus it helps to remind me to do it as well. I also made a pac with myself to be honest in my reporting. I ate two mini Mr Goodbar, knowing that no one in the house would miss them because they dont like them! Anyway, I went ahead and added them in even though I didnt want to admit that I ate them but I am glad that I did. No one else sees it unless you want them to, but I have found that when I make a committment to write down everything, that I behave a lot more. Now, just realize that the goldfish are not something that you should be eating right now and stay away from that aisle at the store if you can. Dont buy them! Easier said than done. Anyway, if you want to start the My Fitness Pal ap, I will make you my friend. I have not made anyone my friend yet so you would be the first. Anyway, maybe it can help! Have a great day and YOU CAN DO THIS!!!!!
  23. No help from me but you did get my curiosity up with the title. Cant wait to hear what this might be! haha!
  24. Yeah those GasX strips are fantastic!!!!! You will be able to drink and not think as much as time goes on. Just be patient and before you know it you will be drinking without thinking. haha that rhymed! And when you feel like that, kind of like you ate or drank to fast or too much, walk some too! Walking really helps get that uncomfortable feeling gone quicker PLUS you get a little exercise in! Its a two-fer! Have a super day!
  25. My nutritionist always shows me a cup (a coffee mug) and tells me that it can hold about the same amount as my stomach. She states that I should try to fill it each time I eat. She also says that it is a game as well, kind of like tetris, I need to chew my food really well so it will fill all the spaces of my stomach. If i eat too fast and too big of bites I can potentially leave empty spaces. With things like oatmeal, I can eat more because they do fill in nicely without much chewing. Just stick with what your nutritionist says and you should be fine! Have a super day!
