Sleeve or Lap Band
I had the lapband in 2006 and just had it converted to the sleeve. Zazi I had shoulder pain, too! And weight gain. And constant pain in my port site. And constant HUNGER! I'm THRILLED to have that band out of me. If the sleeve had been a viable option in 2006, I would have done that instead of the lapband. It's obviously your choice, but I've been more successful my first 30 days on the sleeve than I was with the band. I'm 35 lbs down and haven't had any hunger since surgery.

Barium Swallow / Endoscopy
Hey scubadottie - I am in the process of being approved for the band revision, and I have to take an UGI on Tuesday. I don't have to have an endoscopy that I know of. I had one before being banded, and it wasn't bad at all - I rather enjoyed being loopy all afternoon! :-) I'm totally jealous that you have a surgery date, by the way. I'm hoping to get a date sometime in early October. Thanks and Good Luck! minxie

Former Obese Ppl Judging Obese Negatively? Wtf...
I agree that we have nothing to talk about, as evidenced by your disrespectful tone. What's the point in attacking me for positing a different perspective? Extremely rude and unnecessary. Nevermind the fact that you misrepresented what I said. Duh

Former Obese Ppl Judging Obese Negatively? Wtf...
Why should ex-fat people act any differently than other groups who display this type of behavior? Want to see someone who's really disgusted by smokers? Look at ex-smokers - they're often superior acting. Same with people who had drug addictions. It doesn't make it right, but I think there is some degree of human nature at work in this equation.

Questions On Timeframe And Insurance
Hi All -- I am working with a surgeon's office here in Atlanta. Before he will see me to discuss options on the lap band revision, I have to get tests done on my own. He's also requesting to see all of my surgical files and follow up notes from my original surgeon. (I'm in the process of getting all that done now!) I have a few questions, please. Was there a waiting period from your insurance like we had prior to being banded? (I had a 3 month waiting period with my band) Did you have to lose a certain amount of weight before your surgeon would perform the revision? (I had to lose 20 lbs before they would band me) How long did your insurance company take to approve your request to have the surgery? (I have Anthem BCBS and meet the criteria of the surgery being medically necessary, but don't know how long it will take to get an approval) How long between the time you met with your surgeon and had all pre-op tests done were you able to schedule your surgery? What pre-op tests/procedures did you have to have prior to getting the band-to-sleeve swap? I know that everyone's experience is different, I'm just trying to get a gauge for what the rest of my year will look like. :-) I have filled out all the paperwork for the surgeon's office and had my medical records transferred (I moved states). I meet with my PCP on 8/21 and will schedule the required tests (Upper GI with a recording sent to the surgeon and chest X-Ray). My goal is to have them both completed by 9/20 so that I can see the surgeon by the end of September. Hopefully I will be approved and can schedule surgery for mid-October. I know that is wishful thinking, but it would be awesome if it happened that way! Thanks! Nathalie
