IrishEyes got a reaction from N4t4l1e in Hiatal Hernia Repair Along With Vsg
I had mine repaired during surgery as well and didn't know about it until they told me. I have had no feeling of pain or anything in that area. Zero impact on my recovery. I am glad he had to do it. I had been having pretty bad heartburn for a few years and read on this site how so many people have increased heartburn after surgery, which I was dreading. But because the hernia was repaired I no longer have ANY heartburn. That's really something to look forward to, if you have heartburn.

IrishEyes got a reaction from Futureplans in Protein Ideas?!?!?!
The best Protein bar I have found is PowerCrunch "Original". (link below) It is a wafer Protein Bar and unlike any other Protein Bar on the market. For years, I was on the search for a Protein bar that was not dense or tasted like chalk. Honestly, I thought I would never find it, thought it didn't exist, until I discovered this bar.
The Original has between 13-14 grams of protein. Though that may not be a lot in the protein bar world, I have learned that the higher gram count ='s yuck. This bar meets the sweet spot with high protein and good taste. I have to hide these from family members. They are often my Meal Replacement but to family the bars seem to be a snack. The price is typical of any protein bar, maybe a little less. Here in Florida they run about $2 a bar and between $20-$25 for a box. I buy them by the box as they are my go to item. When I factor in how much less I spend in food now compared to before surgery, it's not difficult to purchase by the box. They can be found at The Vitamin Shoppe by the bar or the box. Recently I discovered them in my local Winn Dixie. (Buying by the box here is important, showing a demand in this store will increase the chances the store keeps them in stock).
Last time I checked, the website below offered samples, which stated took between 4-6 weeks.
I think every bariatric patient, 6-9 months postop and beyond, should try these. They changed everything for me. I have always gravitated toward convenient food. After surgery, those aren't options anymore. Not so much that I can't have them, I just don't want them anymore. My body simply doesn't want fast food anymore. These bars fill that void. They are my new fast food.
    Hope this was helpful!

Yay for you!! I'll never be a size 2, but I do love WHBM! I got some things on sale there this weekend in size 12. I was just excited to be able to shop there, and it's NOT the biggest size they carry! I wore it to work today, and I was prancing in my size 12s like it was a 2

Met with my surgeon yesterday and he feels that it will be a better fit. He actually said if he was to get WLS, the sleeve would be his choice procedure. I am SUPER EXCITED!

What, if any, additional supplements do you take for your autoimmune issues?
As for an update, I'm still awaiting a surgery date. I finished all preop requirements last Thursday, and I'm waiting for the OK from Aetna. :/. I'm ready!!

I was sleeved 6/26 and have mod-severe RA, hypothyroid, planters faciitis, metabolic syndrome and sleep apnea. I am "pre-diabetic" and my cholesterals jump around.....I gained 11 pounds Water weight in hospital, surgery weight was 322, when released on Friday it was 333, as of tonight (Tuesday) I weigh 314!! Lost the Water weight plus 8 more pounds in 4 days! That is crazy! So far I have not taken my RA or thyroid medicine, and have no related pains yet. I have a call into my PCP to ask if I can crush my synthroid, since pharmacist said to check with her on that one...so far no answer....I was told to wait a few weeks before I continue my Enbrel injector Pen, until my incisions heal, and I may have to switch to injectable methotrexate at that time since I take 8 tablets at once. I am hoping and praying my RA might actually go into remission like others have....I have had daily pain from it for 4.5 years since it hit, a break would be nice, lol.......I only take my surgical pain med at bedtime now and feel pretty "normal" all day, whatever that really means, lol...I get to drive tomorrow!! Going to see a movie -No popcorn or soda though!!
Prior to surgery, I took all of meds up to the day before except the Enbrel and methotrexate.....I stopped them one week prior per my surgeons directions. So I have not had my RA meds for 2 weeks, with no problems so far, knock on wood....
I only had to do the pre-op diet for 2 weeks, but I did it for 3 weeks to get used to it. I had 2 Protein shakes during the day and one nutritious meal in the evening. I gave up sofas and caffeine then too. Had to wean myself off caffeine over a 2 week period prior to starting my pre op diet though, a little at a time to avoid withdrawal and headaches. I did not have a weight loss (amount of pounds) requirement luckily.
How is everyone else doing with your autoimmune diseases post surgery? Any issues pre-surgery? Things you have to change? Questions? :-)

I find that cortisone injections help me the most. Actually, closest I feel to normal, ever. Dr gives them to me right in office. They are systemic so works on all joints. I look forward to them and since I can only get them 4 times a year (and they only last a few weeks) I sometimes strategize timing like when i need to go out of town for work, vacations, etc. Now I don't know how these shots are handled before surgery. May need to avoid preop and a little postop. If you haven't tried these shots, I strongly recommend you ask your Dr. Does more than any pain pill. And just an FYI to preops, after surgery you can no longer take NSAIDS... (non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs) like Aleve, my old favorite. Wayyy too hard on little tummy. Only Tylenol (and pain meds).

my stomach growls ALL the time, especially when on the prednisone!! Therefore I eat more, stretching out the stomach....my dr said after my egd that my internal stomach is "huge" so he will have to remove more than normal to make it a "normal" post op size...crazy! As long as it won't growl so much,I will be happy. All of my drs--primary, pulmonologist, and rheumatologist all recommended the sleeve over a year ago. Took me that long to research it and make my commitment to change my life! Now I am ready and can't wait!!!

I am 6months post-op and recently diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis. I give myself weekly shots of methotrexate and seems to be helping. I still have some joint pain and it makes exercising challenging BUT I canNOT imagine how much worse I would feel if I still had those 65lbs. I feel so much better in my skin. I no longer have sleep apnea which is HUGE. Here is the challenging part, I HAVE to make sure I get all the Protein and fluids in (vitamins daily and B12 shots monthly) or I have low energy. Its difficult for all of us but I think its even more crucial when dealing with autoimmune issues. Please keep that in mind. I had a problem taking Rx pills for psoriatic arthritis with my little tummy. Thats why i do injections and its the best choice i made. Very, very small needles. Easy to do and only once a week vs 2 pills a day. Life is truly sweeter now. I really wish I had surgery years ago. You all are going to be sooo happy! Its not every day you turn your life around. Enjoy the journey.

Your NSV made me giggle! It will be intersting to see how poeple will act around me once things get started. Now it is just a waiting game until we move to Florida. It just cannot come fast enough.

Great snack for on the go that does not need to be refridgerated. I keep a few in my purse with individually wrapped spoons. (Only reason I have been in a fast food place postop is for their spoons! ) You do have to be quite a few months post op though. Ask your NUT when you can start eating Peanut Butter. 9grams of Protein. Not the healthiest but does hold you over and stay with you. I wouldn't advise crackers. Doesn't feel so good and besides adds bloat and carbs. Hope it helps anyone looking for a quick snack that is sleeve sized!

On a serious note (sorry guys) cross addiction is very real and is something to be aware of EVEN if you never had a drinking problem before.
Don't be scared, be aware and go into this surgery with information and a support system
    (Counseling) in place..
Ok back to the fun and games

I am on month 7 tomorrow!!! I had a dreaded and crazy ass stall at 210 lbs (started at 260, with goal of 200), for almost 10 weeks. I eat more than many on here and work out a ton.... so, thought i was done.. However, out of the blue, 10 pounds just melted away over the past few weeks and I am right at my medical goal weight. The body is an amazing thing. It does have a set point and I believe if you keep letting it know that you aren't giving up, it will readjust and accept the "new you" a little bit at a time. Rock on!
