This happened to me yesterday --- I was taking my 81 year old aunt to multiple medical appointments from different ends of the city and back... by 2:30pm we both needed to eat something but only had 20 minutes until the next appt. I reluctantly pulled into McDonalds, which is something I've almost never done over the last 12 years (only on road trip vacations). I ate about 1/2 of the burger, became uncomfortably full and threw the rest away. And I realized no big deal.... I had a Protein Shake at 7am for Breakfast and 1/2 of small hamburger for lunch --- I'm good! That is what my goal was when I decided to have this surgery. I was tired tired tired of "being on a diet" after 40 years. Yes, I guess in essence I'm "on a diet" because I'm limited on how much I can eat but it doesn't feel like a diet. It just feels like I can eat whatever I want (within reason of course) and I just stop when I'm full. Wonderful!!!
Congrats on being in the 250's!!

I think accountability is a big factor...perhaps just staying on this board and keeping us all updated with your progress and even the bumps in the road will help...in other words, we will be your monitors!

Everyone is doing so well. I am of the same mind. I am not on a diet anymore. I eat what I want and only if I really want it and it would be good for me at the same time. I find myself trying new foods, looking for unusual things on the menu, and going to places I would have never tried before. I still look at the nutritional infromation and figure out what would be my best choice for the day and stop eating when I start to feel full. Of course that is really quickly. I have lots of left overs and sometimes my dogs eat really well but it is working for me. It is a lot less stress too.
    Have a great month everyone!

Darn it I miised all the hoopla. I was busy today at TGIF having a cocktail (ok two) before dinner. Not to worry I waited 30 minutes before I ate my cheeseburger, without the bun and sweet potato fries cause they are better for you. I love my SLEEVE!

Lets add to the thread that only crazy people would go to Mexico for surgery... and I just want to know is it okay if I do shots of tequila in the recovery room or should I wait until I'm back in my room? You know, cuz it's a clear liquid.< /p>

I'm so with you. It is remarkably freeing to not be "on a diet" for pretty much the first time since I was 12 years old. I've been on vacation all week and have been making good choices for the most part, but have also had a little bit of anything I wanted all week. I am positive I will see a loss when I get home tomorrow as several of the new pieces of clothing i bought just a week before the trip turned out to be too big by the time i wore them. I truly feel normal when it comes to eating for the first time in my life, which makes me unbelievably happy.

Im eating realistically - if im out and away from healthy choices i may grab a small dollar menu burger, but its not a daily thing and i dont beat myself up for it. I stay around 1000-1100 cals a day and im 8 weeks out. I was down 42lbs at my two month mark on 2/28 and two days later im down almost another 2lbs! Im finally in the 250s!! So if you have to eat bad food just dont make a habit of it and dont beat yourself up over it. Its ultimately a numbers game which is pure science - calories in vs. calories out.

This is one problem I don't seem to have, I think because I start off the day with about 30g of Protein. If I have an Atkins bar for lunch that's another 15. I only need a 30 more or so. Lately I've found that I don't want to eat "heavy" protein in the evening so I've been doing Special K Protein cereal(10g). I use Hood low carb milk (6g) with 1/2 scoop of nectar chocolate Truffle Protein powder (11g). That gets me to 70-80g. The Cereal goes down very easy and it feels like a treat. I really haven't been concentrating on dense protein because it feels too heavy a lot of the time...

    Slow Loser Update:

    9 weeks post-op and I finally reached -30 lbs!!

I upped my calories 10 days ago and I've lost about 5 or 6 lbs. That is the most I've lost in that time frame since my first 10 days after surgery. Now, I'm still hesitant to declare the reason for the those 5 lbs is the increased calories -- but that is the only thing I've done differently. It could be that it just coincided with a regular "jump" down.....I'm just going to keep doing what I'm doing and hope it continues....

    Hey Laura,
You know, I don't always stick to the 3 meals a day and 2 Snacks thing. Sometimes I just eat small bites of something every few hours with a few Snacks thrown in. Like today, I never really had a "meal" except for my morning Protein shake. I just would take 2 or 3 small bites of chicken/egg salad I had in the fridge throughout the day. I'm not meticulously counting calories right now --- it's sort of a guesstimate. My husband grilled pork ribs tonight and I had one of those, which was awesome. I tried to eat one a few weeks back and it was too heavy but today it was fine. I'll probably have a low carb brownie with some tea in a few minutes. I'm probably averaging about 1000 calories now.
I do think I do much better when the daytime routine is simple. A Protein Shake and an Atkins bar for lunch or a few bites of Protein.
Here is the link for the brownie mix in case anyone is interested. They're pretty good....

It scares me too! I haven't gotten past mid-800s but when I upped it to 650-800 I started dropping weight again! I kinda figure what is the risk? If you're not losing anyway worst that happens is gain a pound or two and realize that wasn't the answer. Haha easier said than done! :-)

I've been using straws since day 3 post-op, even though it is considered a no-no by my guidelines. It was the only way I could get enough liquid in. I told my nutritionist on my first post-op followup ( I wasn't asking -- I was just letting her know because I was sitting there with my big cup with a straw) and she just said be careful. I'm still alive. I think the straw thing way over dramatized.

So to me I still look as fat as ever in the mirror but last night I had an almost scary NSV! Almost 1am as I was getting ready for bed I remembered it was garbage night. I was already stripped down and I'm pretty sure in my sedate neighborhood I'm the only one still up and about so I took the garbage to the curb in my boxers. As I was hurrying to get back in out of the cold before a car drove past I saw the shadow of a man against my house, cast by the streetlight directly across. For a split moment I was freaked out until I realized it was in fact my own shadow and I didn't recognize it immediately. The shadow had love handles but was no where near round like it used to be. I actually stopped to gawk at it in disbelief for a while.
So I guess much of my weight is still hanging off the front and is still offensive to me in 3D, but my 2 dimensional profile isn't looking half bad! If you are struggling to notice your progress, take a page from a groundhog and see if your bare shadow scares you. What's the worst than can happen? Six more weeks of winter?
