I have lost 94 pounds since my surgery on January 14th. I have not rewarded myself yet...but soon I expect to do something. I too have been excited about super sexy underwear.. I am a little bummed that my butt is sagging quite a bit and i think that is why i haven't spluged yet. I am exercising hard so hopefully I will be able to lift my booty. Reward yourself with clothes, or a new hair-do, a little vacation, a really good book, manicures/pedicures..............

Both my parents died a month and two weeks apart 6 years ago. My mom died of heart failure due to morbid obesity. Upon reading that on her death certificate I have been on this journey to have this surgery. The prize date is 7/22/13.
Once I lined up my ducks with the health insurance a year ago, nothing I do mean nothing is stopping me in reaching my goal For this assistance to have a healthier life.
So yes there are those of us that will do 'it' and as the results start to show and we no longer take meds for high blood pressure, or have to spend money on pose pads doing 'it' will have been worth it.
I am truly sorry for the loss of your loved one. Hang in there.
    Continued success on your journey.

Thanks for sharing. I have been gathering information in preparation for my surgery 7/22/13. Today consisted of hunting in the stores to find Gas-X strips. I was so happy the CVS near my job had them.
I'm going through my clothes now to find the biggest and roomiest shorts I have with a draw string. If I don't have any I know I have a light weight pair of sweat pants.
I want my bag packed and ready at the front door. I may skip all the way to the hospital I'm so excited.
Your shared experience has helped so very much. Thank you.
    Continued success on your journey.

Karen, that will be great your sister being there for you, I always wished I had a sister, but I got my Hubby! I am on my pre op now and again its not bad I have been such a snacker, girl I am worst than any kid, so I am missing that comfort of snacking and chewing on Bit o Honey and cookies and crap like that, so I have chosen to eat healthier for a better and healthier me, I eat now my protein shakes in the morning and I have Activia light peach yogurt, and Jell-O makes a living healthy fat free chocolate pudding, so I get it in just healthier, I don't over indulge in the pudding and yogurts and fruits I will eat my portion and I am satisfied, you mentioned pureeing tuna or chicken, you think you will like it? have you thought about baby food? I may do baby food vegetables and fruits post op, but pureed tuna...you a tough a lady if you get that down, let me no how it goes, so you know Im not being smarty pants, oh yeah gas x it's a must have and I think even Tums /wcalcium, I am so anxious and just ready to do this I look forward to my wl and smaller portion I know it will be rough post op but atleast will be getting good pain meds while inpt and from other post op there saying the pain gets better a few days out.

I have wanted surgery since 2004, I only got on the ball and started the process 2012. All little voice was sent packing. I got 25 lbs off and fight everyday to keep it off. But I know I can do this. In between it all have had several other surgeries the hardest being having part of my thyroid removed. If I can get through that I will be fine. I told myself I would never talk or sing again. I am here to tell the voices of worry were sent packing. I took it one day at a time, voiced all concerns to my doctor and all is well.
Hang in there abbygirl. We are all here for you.
    Continued success on your journey.

Ditto to all of your comments. This is the best thing I could have ever done to get & stay healthy. I'm down 56 lbs and still dropping a few here and there. Cured my health issues. I feel so good & never felt better. So much energy & in the gym 4 days a week to tone. I am loving the results.

Hi ornurse as for the green smoothies -- I use a nutribullet blender to do a smoothie with 1/2 fruit and 1/2 green leafy vegetable (I've so far used kale, spinach, and chard) I add my protein shake powder to these. I had felt like my body was really missing fruits & vegetables since durign my meals I only eat protein -- that's all there's room for right now! I do feel a lot better since I started doing this, and I have more energy. I recommend it to anyone!
Thanks Angela! Good luck to you as well! My pre-op diet was very similar. I remember that it was easier than I had thought it was going to be, and I beleive it's because I was thinking of it as being preparation for surgery, not just any old diet. I am really glad that I practiced not drinking with meals at that time too, because now I'm used to it.

@LadyAngela67, thanks and congrats to you as well! I hear we are family buzzing in my head for all us waiting to have the procedure. Lol
My sister called and is trying to get time off from work to stay through my first three days, surgery and discharge. I think after that I will be able to function on my own.
I totally agree with you that the exchanges we all have is of great benefit. I want to get my bag packed form my hospital stay. Hunting the the Gas-X strips hoping Walgreen's has them. If this process is anything like my gallbladder being removed I'll need them for the gas.
I purchased tuna along with chicken and turkey. It will be flaked so I figure if I pulse it in the food processor I can eat it and get my proteins.
I've fallen in love the sugar free peach jello. It's the only one that does not have an after taste. So I'll eat that as my treat during my two week liquid diet pre-op.
Keep us posted. I know I will follow you.

Hi Karen and Congrats on your approval and surgery date! I totally understand it is the best feeling, I will follow your journey too and my surgery date is July 12th, but we all benefit from each others stories/journey, keep us posted of your pre op visits, I am waiting on the call from the hospital to tell me the time I sure hope its early morning, it would be nice, but I do no I will have a 2 day admit, and I am believing God all will be well for all of US! its funny because when I get on this site and the gastricsleeve.com site I get super excited and extremely anxious for this to hurry up like a kid at Christmas! other wise I am focused on my pre op diet, its starting to kick in now this is my 1st week and I am getting the head aches, but I can eat lean meat and vegetables and fruits just no carbs, But there are some healthy carbs right?...lol...lol, but I am hanging in there cause I want to and I need to actually I have to , but take care.

If I buy green beans, I drain them rinse a few times. Place them in a sauce pan, with a cup and a half of low sodium chicken broth, add diced onions and garlic and let them cook.
    Good eats.
    If they are fresh:
Boil smoked turkey neck in chicken broth for about 20-30 mins
Add the cleaned fresh green beans.
    Let cook for 30 mins
    Add garlic and diced onions
    Salt and pepper as needed
    Cook another 20-30 mins
    Yum

I see this post was earlier last year...but I am 11 days post op WLS and I will say...my husband did not go to any apts with me, nor did he go to the surgery with me...my sister attended the surgery and stood vigal by my side...love her! I flew home and he was there to pick me up...I had to ask him if he could carry my 47 lb bag.... He gave me a superficial kiss and when I jokinly said so did ya miss me after 11 days....he laughed and said "nope"...did just fine.
I have been married 20+ yrs now, 5 children later....I am thnking (ccbc) is way right on track...these men take their "fat ole' ladies" for their maid, mother, and care giver. I had meals pre-prepared for him and the kids prior to surgery...all he had to do was preheat the oven....I had laundry done folded, ironing done etc... of course he didn't miss me, why would he...I did all my chores 11 days pre-opt...
However I do have a very wise girlfriend who told me recently....Do not make any life altering changes just after surgery....He may be scare, insecure, and just waiting for his life to come tumbling down like the Roman Empire....what he is unsure of...we ladies just wonder...I married my husband 20+ years ago weighing in at 130 lbs....does he think I love him more since I am 354 lbs? NOT and especially when he acts like he is 3 yrs old.
I drove myself home home 130 miles after long plane ride while he was in the passenger seat sawing logs..
Weight and see is a big game!

    Hey Stac and CCBC,
after waiting an hour for him to come to bed last night, I went out to get some water (I already had a full glass.. LOL). When I passed him I said, you not coming to bed? He said oh yeah, just gaming. He quickly shut it off and came right to bed. He was all lovey dovey. IDK maybe he is bi-polar. I was happy he seemed ok. He was really fussing earlier over nothing. Today he is back to himself but I still have to wonder... what the heck is going on with him. I have taken both comments to heart and I will try to be more understanding as well as show more attention. I will see if that works.
I just hope that people know losing weight isn't going to make your spouse love you more. If the love is gone, nothing is going to help unless both parties make an effort. I just read The Emotional First Aid Kit for bariatric patients which touches on the whole post op weight loss jealousy. A spouse may be very worried (like CCBC said) about your getting all sexy and leaving them.
I have been married 5 yrs and have 2 kids. There is nothing more important to me than family, but emotional abuse is NOT acceptable - no matter what is going on around you. If he does this again, we will need to have a heart to heart.

I think I will comment from two different perspectives...if I may. <BR><BR>First from the man perspective. Maybe he is scared...maybe he's worried that once you lose the weight, you won't want to be with him any more. or you start getting more attention from other guys and start looking at the greener pasture...so to speak. I would think that he would do well with some reassurance from you that even after you lose weight, even after you start getting the added attention from others, that you still love him and that will not change. <BR><BR>Ok perspective 2. I'll call this the Man perspective #2 or the child perspective (since there is not a whole lot of difference sometimes). Have you ever had a child act out because they are wanting attention? and any attention, even bad attention is better than no attention in their eyes. Maybe, in his eyes, you have been spending so much time and attention leading up to this surgery that he is feeling left out. Maybe a night out, just the two of you, once a week would help him appreciate the time you spend together more.<BR><BR>Anyway, just a couple of thoughts from a guy who has no idea what you or your husband are going through. Take them for what they are worth. Just remember, they were free.<IMG class=bbc_emoticon alt= src="http://cdn.verticalsleevetalk.com/public/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif">

Hello Karen, It's good to read all your preparations for the big date. I asked lots of questions of people who had just been through this surgery before I had mine. It was helpful and I understood the roller coaster emotional ride that is happening throughout this entire procedure. The best thing I have been told were three steps to keep in mind. Step 1: Oh, wow, I am really doing this.... I better get all my ducks in a row,,,, Step 2: Day 1 right after surgery....... Oh no, what have I done to myself.......... Two weeks out....Step 3: Wow, why didn't I do this sooner. Best advice I can give you is, give your body time to heal after the big day. Good luck and see you on the other side.

I hear ya! Sadly, I have first hand experience with your concerns. I had the lapband and it didnt work. After regaining 'ALL and then some' of my lapband weight loss, I heard a few comments about it and got many looks, but I was my own biggest critic. While burying my head in the sand (pretending to ignore my expanding waistline), I couldn't see that I had choices. I believed that I had failed and I let that fear paralyze me for a long time. In hindsight, my fear was the biggest hinderance to my success. I'm so thankful that I found the courage to try again.
