  1. Actually, he said he could go and pull records to let me know, but I stopped him and said I didn't need to know any further info. I like the fact that he didn't hesitate meaning he wasn't hiding anything from me. As for a follow-up visit that has already been set-up when I had my appt with the dietitian. Today, I had to agree to attend 3 months of their support group. I didn't think to ask about the anesthesia since I've had past surgeries with no problems. Pain meds didn't cross my mind because I usually may only take it the day of and day after surgery then no more.
  2. I don't know since I'm not there yet, but I believe there is a forum here somewhere about food and recipes. I'll be looking for it in about 2 months
  3. A small pillow to hold against your stomach so when you cough it will not pull on the stitches. 4 week supply of Protein drinks (per my dietitian) Take before pics (the nurse took it today at my pre-op doctor's appt; had her take some with my iphone also) As for me, I'm going to pamper my stomach before I begin my pre-op diet.
  4. From what I heard, the hair will grow back. Maybe you should see a dermatologist about the pimple things and maybe there's a different shampoo that would work better for your hair type. I hope it all works out for you.
  5. Just remember, losing slow and easy means less saggy skin.
  6. Feb 21 for me! No nervousness...just excited that it's next week. Oh and kind of fearful that it won't work for me
  7. I like the premium protein drinks from Costco. They have vanilla and chocolate. I find that I like both.
  8. So I had my preop appt today and asked my doctor a few questions and here was his responses. What is his complication rate, where there are problems? About 1%, but they are not necessarily related to the sleeve; it could be pneumonia, infection, spleen. But they count that as part of the 1%. He does not remember any problems with the sleeve, but an incident with a bypass that they thought there was a leak and went back in to check and could find none. Is it just him doing the surgery? I asked this because he kept saying we for the above question. There are 2 surgeons in the operating room. I like the idea of two sets of eyes. Why do people say "No blind ng tube"? He said that's probably for the first 6 months while the stomach is healing. Why no nsaids? He said it's ok to take them occasionally not, just not on a regiment since it could cause stomach irritation. Do I need a medical id bracelet? He said if I wanted, the for the first 6 months, then don't need it. How soon can I go back to work? I work on a computer at a desk job, so he said I definitely should take 3-4 days off and can do work. The main thing is driving that I shouldn't do. He said it was ok for me to work from home if I felt like it. How about blood clots? He said he gives medication for that through an IV What about antacids? He will prescribe it if I need it. I'm on blood pressure medicine, should I continue to take it? Yes, but monitor my blood pressure. If I see it going down after a week or so, then stop taking it and talk to my pcp. Can I have my stomach? No it goes to pathology. Can you take a picture of it? He said he will try to remember. I told him I would like to see it and have the measurements. He said he would try to remember. After talking to him, it definitely made me feel comfortable with the procedure. Luckily the doctor's office is part of the hospital so I was able to go ahead and pre-register. I also need to have a phone interview with the nurse, which I already set up for tomorrow, to make sure everything is fine for surgery and to get some information for the anesthesiologist. So I'm all ready! Just waiting to start my pre-op liquid diet in 2 days!
  9. I can totally relate to how you feel. I begin my preop diet Thursday and I'm afraid I won't be able to stick to it or the surgery won't work for me. I guess we just have to take it a day at a time. Good luck to you
  10. Ok. I stretched the truth and said there was a bump (cyst) to be removed and part of my stomach has to go. Ok I guess it is a lie but I can't handle telling the truth
  11. I recently finished the 6 month program with Kaiser and had my appt with the surgeon's dietician. The dietician told me not to take Vitamins until 2 weeks out when I can start soft foods. This is because many people get nauseous with vitamins and no real food.
  12. doesn't vitamin b provide energy?
  13. I think family opinions are based on family dynamics. With my family, I know it would be envy. Something I could do to improve myself that could make me appear better than them. Or criticism that I'm weaker than them because I couldn't do it on my own as they can. So I've learned early on with my family, not to mentioned anything until it's well after the fact. I'm just glad my immediate family (hubby and kids) are supportive. Their opinions are the ones that matter the most to me! Hopefully, your family will come around and support you. If not, to the heck with them...you've got the support of your hubby!
  14. Hi, hope everything goes well with your psych eval. Mine didn't ask too much info. I was really worried about mine since I am on anti-depressants and was afraid they would think I was not mentally prepared for this. Good luck with your eval!
  15. Yeah, it's hard waiting for their approval. Maybe if you mention about your insurance expiring soon, they would get on the ball. Try not to get depressed about it. I believe in a higher being (God) and if you were meant to get the sleeve, you will overcome any obstacles and have that sleeve one day! I hope everything works out for you.
  16. I just tell them it's doctors appointments. No need to tell them any details. I've also given work when I will have surgery (without mentioning the type of surgery). When anyone asks me, I just say some health issues. good luck with your work!
  17. I have kaiser and I only have a $5 copay for surgery. It's base on what your company pays/negotiates for. I'm very happy with kaiser. The 6 month process was long but I'm through that phase now.
  18. Hi Shan, I'm a Feb 21 sleever also. Hope your twin is feeling better and have a speedy recovery. I think in the ointment section at drug stores, there's ointments to help with scars. Oh, I think one of the bigger incisions is so that the doctor can remove the stomach they cut off.
  19. Hi...anyone else with a Feb 21 date?
  20. Hi, I'm from Ashburn, VA and will be getting sleeved at Virginia Hospital Center by Dr. Mayes. He's in the same office as Dr. Salameh. Anyone else have Dr. Mayes?
  21. Hi and welcome. I think you're making the right decision to not say anything until close to surgery. You don't need others swaying your decison. I don't plan on tell anyone until after the surgery. I don't want to hear there opinions/criticism. My husband is supportive and my kids understand my decision. Those are the real opinions that count to me. Good luck with your journey!
  22. I can't wait til I reach goal weight. My reward is going to be a new wardrobe. Then after maintaining for a year, the goal is a mommy makeover (purse strings permitting)
  23. Hehehe, I just posted earlier that I was "pigging out" some. I feel like I want to get all the delicious food in me before I no longer can. I've pigged out on bread...and I'm not a big bread eater which is weird. Also on some chocolate. I've been offsetting it with walking each day. I hope to keep up with the walking so it will help me lose the maximum weight in the beginning. When is your surgery, sleeve buddy?
