Best Friend Help
I've only told one of my sisters and my brother that I am having the surgery. My sister "kind of" put me down for not having will power to lose weight and keep it off. Surprisingly, my brother didn't say anything negative about it and he's the one I expected some. He just asked to me to let him know how it goes. Maybe he has some interest since he is over weight, but have lost a lot with gall bladder surgery. I told a co-worker that I was having a "cyst" removed...hey that's what I'm calling my "extra" stomach that is being removed...that's my story and I'm sticking to it. I did say that the doctor may be removing part of the stomach in the process....ok ok, I bent the truth some, but it's all good and doesn't hurt anyone.

Got my medical id bracelet
Surgery is Thursday and my medical id bracelet just come in today. The doctor told me that there should be no blind NG tube for the next 6 months as my stomach heals and to limit NSAIDs. Occasionally is ok, but it shouldn't be on a regular basis. I plan on wearing the bracelet just for 6 months so I got a cheap stainless steel one. The total cost was $30 with engraving. I had my first name engraved on the front and on the back I put: VS Gastrectomy date of surgery - weight No blind NG tube no/limit NSAIDs ICE Anyone else wearing a medical id bracelet?

Postponing surgery -- SO PISSED!
Maybe you should start taking the calcium and vitamin D supplements now to help with the bone recovery.

Pre-op diet
I'm in my one week pre-op diet of High protein shakes and clear liquids. My doctor told me this was to shrink my liver, making it easier to get to the stomach. I would think your doctor would give you more specifics. Maybe you should ask.

Why do post-op diets vary so much?
I've been reading a lot here and I see the basic post-op diet progression is the same: liquid, full liquid, puree, soft foods, then all foods. But why does the length of time vary so much? My post-op diet only includes 1 day of clear liquid (day right after surgery) and it makes me wonder if I'm on clear liquids long enough. What do you all think about the variations?
-
My mind is playing tricks on me!
Wow, I guess I'm lucky then because I only have1 day of clear then 2 weeks of full liquid.

Surgeon Recommends Gastric Bypass Instead of Sleeve
I think I remember hearing something about if you have diabetes then the bypass may be better than the sleeve. Is that why you take metformin ?

All good in the end! Approved!

Have you added in exercise? and if you already exercise, maybe varying it will help. 60 pounds is still doing great!

I'm on my pre-op diet and I wasn't told to stay away from "red" SF jello. Why do you think we should stay away from "red"?

I just couldn't wait....
My surgery is Thursday and I just couldn't wait to get a medical id bracelet. I went online to order a stainless steel one since my doctor said it was good to have one for the first 6 months, but not necessary. Well, I like to play it safe and decided to get one to wear for 6 months. Then I read on this site, that someone's spouse got her a platinum bracelet with the date and weight of her surgery as a reminder to help maintain weight loss. I like the idea so much, that I looked for a sterling silver id bracelet to engrave my surgery date and weight on it. I would love to get platinum or gold, but I'll just have to settle for silver. Still I'm excited and have ordered a silver bracelet. I can't wait til after surgery so I can wear my bracelets...that's if they come in time....lol...I ordered them from ebay. Anyone find themselves ordering bracelets prior to surgery?

Pre-Op diet harder that I thought
Let's see I have a 7 day pre-op diet before surgery on Thursday. So last Thursday (Valentine's Day), I did liquid diet until evening meal and had to have some Valentine candy. Friday, I did well til evening and had 3 pieces of chocolate. Saturday, I did well til evening and ate a large handful of cashew. Today, Sunday, I have been able to stick to my liquid diet! Just 3 more days of this....I can do it, I can do it, I can do it.....I'm working on convincing myself lol . Anybody else start out cheating on pre-op to finish strong?

New Member - Annie :)
Hi Annie! I had to do a 6 month program also. At first the time seem to go by slowly, but before I knew it, I was making a surgery date. This Thursday for me.
