TamaraS reacted to PJinWashington in Timing Is Everything: When to Eat to Lose Weight
When trying to slim down, we're bombarded with what foods to eat and how much, but it's not the only thing you need to think about. Timing is important, too. For issues slimming down, check out the info below to see when to eat each meal and snack to optimize your weight-loss results.
Breakfast: Don't skip Breakfast, and be sure to eat your morning meal within an hour of waking to jump-start your metabolism, consuming 25 percent of your daily calories. Example: 7 a.m.
Morning snack: Eat two to three hours after breakfast. This will keep blood sugar levels stable to avoid the low-energy sluggishness that makes you reach for high-calorie treats. Snacking also prevents the famished feeling that makes you inhale way more calories at your next meal than you would if you weren't plagued by hunger pains. Stick to 150 calories or less, about five percent of your daily calories. Example: 9:30 a.m.
Lunch: Your midday meal should be eaten two to three hours after your morning snack. Try to make lunch your largest meal of the day. Consuming more calories midday than at breakfast or dinner ensures you have enough time to burn all those calories, about 40 percent of your total daily calories. Example: 12:30 p.m.
Afternoon snack: Enjoy your snack two to three hours after lunch. Stick to 150 calories or less, about five percent of your daily calories. Example: 3:30 p.m.
Dinner: Eat the last 25 percent of your daily calories at dinner, about two to three hours after your afternoon snack. Finish your evening meal two to three hours before going to bed. Eating too close to bedtime can raise your body temperature and your insulin and blood sugar levels, cause heartburn or digestive issues, and prevent the release of melatonin - all of which can interfere with the fat-burning benefits associated with getting a restful night's sleep. Example: 6:30 p.m.

I agree totally. The first 2 months I was disgusted with food and my appetite and cravings have slowly returned. I am still winning the fight but it is much harder than I thought it would be. Good luck.

Sorry, it was kind of a debbie downer post. I wasn't trying to dampen your excitement. It IS very awesome to be satisfied with only a few bites! I was just trying to inject some reality because in the first few months many many people feel they have conquered their love affair with food, but very often when they are further out and can eat more food...especially when you become aware of your slider foods...you realize that your love affair will rear it's ugly head again if you aren't very conscious about keeping it in check. I say it because knowledge is power. Knowing it will help you to conquer it. but yes, being satisfied with only a few bites is a wonderful thing!!

Anyone that is about to get this surgery. Please practice eating and drinking slowly. You will be sorry that you didn't. I didn't practice and have paid several times for eating to quick. You really need to practice when you are really hungry and really thirsty, when we tend to drink and eat fast.

The sleeve will help you learn to eat less. I dont believe his points are valid, infact he sounds very negative and unsupportive. This is your life and you only get to live it once! I hope you follow your heart and get your weight off regardless of his input. I was fortunate to have a very supportive husband. Neither he nor I thought the sleeve would be effective for me because 1. I was extremely over weight since a toddler and 2. because every diet I have ever been on resulted in me gaining more weight. In 6 months I have lost over 70lbs. It seems surreal! I haven't over come my food addictions. Its a constant battle. If you were able to over come them on your own you wouldn't need surgery! The sleeve has affected my life in ways I would have never imagined. I am working on my goals and dreams. I didn't value myself enough to do this before. The decrease in my joint pain is unbelievable. For the first time ever I was able to climb rocks on the beach and tide pool with my 6 year old, never thought I'd have the energy or strength to do that! I know I went on a bit of a tangent but there is so much of life we miss out on being severly obese and there are so many wonderful things that begin happening as the weight comes off. It makes me sad when I hear that family arn't supportive.

I have averaged about 8 lbs a month, excluding my first week when I lost 16lbs and this last week when I lost 11lbs. Its frustrating losing slowly but as long a our numbers are going down we are on the right track! This last week I doubled my Water intake and upped my Protein which resulted in a big loss, might be worth a try!!

These are unanswerable questions in many ways. I was the the one terrified of failure, terrified that I would "fail again". There are no guarantees and I need to be honest - some people do not have stellar results with the sleeve and while i have guesses, I don't really know why.
Having said that, I failed miserably, and I mean miserably with the band and have had great success with the sleeve. It is just a BETTER procedure and I picked a surgeon with BETTER support and follow up and I chose to learn from my mistakes and try to make different ones at least.
In my mind, there is almost no comparison between the two.
I am also a little skeptical about the whole food addiction thing... yes.. there is a huge emotional component but there is also a big physical component of the DRIVE to OVEREAT. The band did not address that hunger drive for me, and the sleeve did. It did not solve the mental/emotional aspects but removing the 85% of my bottomless pit/always hungry feeling removed 85% of my problem.

I get in two Water bottles before Breakfast and at work I talked to my manager about keeping Water bottles on me and she was totally supportive so during the work day I am constantly drinking and make sure to get atleast 3 water bottles down while there. It's the same at home, while relaxing I keep a water bottle on me all the time. I noticed that purchasing a case of water has helped me immensely. I never drank this much when I used a cup. Counting the water bottles is a lot easier way of tracking how much I am intaking also. I just wish I had started doing this sooner!!!

I have had a rough time making the numbers I wanted after surgery. During the all liquids phase I did excellent with my weightloss but it slowed drasticly after I started foods again. I had trouble making it to 64 ounces of Water and meeting the protien recomendations. a little overa week ago I was desperate when I gained 4 lbs in my fourth month so I decided to consume 120+ ounces of water and go over my daily recomended Protein requirments. I lost 11lbs this week!!! I was really affraid I wouldn't lose any more weight but my hope is renewed =) Just wanted to share and encourage anyone who isn't drinking enough water or getting enough protein!

I am happy to report that by employing this strategy (upping Protein and water) I still can't manage to get to 120 oz. of Water, but I am getting to between 90-100 and it's working! As far as protien, I make it a point to never consume less than 100 gm /day. With these changes I am now losing about .5 lb/day. From what I understand this is great for a person that is nearly 1-1/2 yrs. out. I am so excited about this renewed progress. I can't thank you enough for sharing this Tamara S! It has literally turned my world around. My new aim is to be at goal by my birthday (May 17th). If I keep going at this rate, this is totally feasible.
