My policy, eventhough it is aetna, it is a self paid policy. So employer choses what they will and wont cover and have their own set of rules. Oh and i should add that eventhough i like my navigator i am pretty pissed with her right now for abandoning my case!

I have Aetna too but my specific policy requires the 6 month. I too go to NJBC.

I started my journey in Feb of this year. After my first visit i was told i had to complete 6 months of a supervised diet with a nutritionist. In april my insurance changed and automatically the Dr's office decided that since it had changed that the requirements probably changed. They never bothered to really find out so after 3 months of NUT Visits they submitted my paper work and gave me a surgery date of July 2. Well not to my surprise i was NOT APPROVED! Reason? Well i didnt compete the 6 months. So i got a couple of "I'm Sorry's" and completed the remaining 3 months. Once i completed all my visits my paperwork was again submitted and my new surgery date was Nov 5. Guess what? The day hurricane Sandy was blowing trees down in my neighborhood i received the letter that I was NOT APPROVED again! Of course i was beyond pissed. Not only did i have to wait to be able to contact the Dr's office for over a week (Neither I or The Dr's office had electricity for over a week after the storm) But to my surprise the reason i was not approved was that my navigator as much as i liked her was very sloppy. Turns out that there was info missing, My height was wrong on some of the medical notes from 4 years ago (They required 5 years weight history and diet history) At the wrong height my BMI was not over the 35. And the worse part was that when i finally was able to speak to my Navigator at the Surgeons office she basically told me that i had to get it approved myself, that there was nothing else she could do. Well right after thanksgiving i was really pissed off at the world and decided i was going to get my surgery approved! I wrote them a somewhat nasty letter and spelled out all the supporting documents in a timeline! Guess what?????? I found out today that I am FINALLY APPROVED!!!!!! I almost want to go find another Surgeon! I swear if i didn't think it would screw up my approval i would tell them where to go! Of course my call the surgeon's office today would be useless since they are probably having their holiday parties and stuff. So i guess i will have to wait until after christmas to schedule my surgery! Merry Christmas everyone! I swear this is the best Christmas gift ever!

everyone's eval is different. Mine was about 45 minutes from the moment i walked in the door. (probably spent 30 minutes with the Dr.) We spoke about everything from the weather to my kids and the actual surgery.

If you take the ring to the jewlers they can put a ring guard in it. They have some that are not permanent. They are fairly inexpensive too maybe 10 bucks at the most.

I had my gall bladder out a few years ago ( i am still pre op) my surgeon mentioned that if i still had my gall bladder they would of taken it out right then and their during vsg surgery. You should ask your surgeon.

Unfortunately my paperwork was sent out 3 months early (needed to complete 6 months of NUT visits not 3) and i was denied. New surgery date is Nov 5. Hopefully this time around i wont have any problems.

I am scheduled for Nov. 5, I was denied once, original surgery date was July 2nd (paper work was sent too early) Hoping that this time around i will have my surgery without any problems. I am 37 (will be 38 in September) married and a mother of two sons ages 20 and 14 and a 17 year old daughter.

Congrats on getting approved. After a few hiccups with my insurance i am hoping to get a date for surgery on friday at my 5th month visit. What i have been doing is doubling some of the meals i have been making recently and freezing half of it so that when i am post op my family could just pop it either in the oven, or crockpot (depending on what it is) I have also made my own broths and froze them in 8oz containers. First things first. You may have decided last night that you want surgery but what you have not mentioned is what your bmi is. Do you qualify for weight loss surgery? Do you have co-morbilities? make sure you call your insurance company monday and speak to a live person and ask them to tell you what your requirements are. Also ask them to tell you who the In-Network surgeons are. You don't want to get stuck in the end. This is how i started my process. Good Luck to you.

Well my surgery was canceled, I recieved my denial letter on wednesday, all because the morons at my surgeons office insisted that i only had to do 4 months with the NUT. Well turns out that if she would of listened to me when i told her my plan specifically requires 6 months of visits with the NUT i would not be crushed right now. My only other issue is that i submitted weight histories for 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012. Turns out i was not at a bmi of 35 until 2009. I have now requested my weight history from my Dr. in Florida for 2008 (we had briefly relocated to FL and when we moved back i lost the info for who the dr. was since i only visited him twice i couldnt remember his name) My friend figured it all out for me and the request has been sent. Keeping fingers crossed that my bmi was 35 in 2008. Surgery will be rescheduled sometime in August. Good luck to you all.

Alot of insurance companies deny you first with the hopes that you will give up. If i am denied i am going to appeal it. i suggest you do the same!

I know exactly what you mean. I am pretty obsessed about it too! My surgery date is July 2 and my paperwork was only sent for approval on 6/12. I am obsessively looking at my email, checking my phone and to pass time i am on the boards both here and on obesityhelp.com. So i know exactly what your saying. Early on i started a blog and that did help out a bit.

I am also scheduled for July 2. Didn't the surgeon give you any literature? My Dr. has given me pages and pages of stuff about pre, post and long term. Since your two week diet should start on monday i would call the surgeon's office. In my opinion you can't wait until the 22nd to find out about your pre-op diet. my pre-op diet is 2 weeks of low fat/ low carb 1200 calories diet

WOW! Really???? Did you let your Surgeon's office know? I would be hounding them to resend it.

Called my insurance company and they said they recieved everything on the 12th and to give them until next week June 21. So i will sit in my chair and continue to wait patiently.....NOT!
