  1. Hi-

I have been banded since 2007 and have maintained a 140+ weight loss and continue to lose slowly. In the beginning I exercised about an hour a day 5-6 times a week-mostly walking, Now I try to exercise 3 times a week for 20 minutes. Since it is so cold here, I am riding my inside bike and doing some yoga. With this in mind though I probably spend 4-5 hours a day on my feet. I think exercise is important-it helps with depression and overall health and it is something good I can do to take care of myself. Like everything else with this lapband experience, everyone is different, Marathon running is not mandatory. We hear more about this on the board because people enjoy it as a "hobby" and are rightly proud of themselves for earning such an accomplishment after a lifetime of inactivity, Find what fits into your lifestyle-If it is not doable you won't do it!!!

  2. I have had a fun experience I would like to share. It started by seeing a Bento Box on a WLS blog. A bento box is a kind of Japanese traditional lunch box, The one I ordered is a modern makeover, dishwasher safe and microwavable. You can see it here food and it is better thought out. Some of the things I have brought-a Tomato, a hardboiled egg, refried Beans, bits of cheese and crackers, carrots, half a sweet potato, prunes, grapes and almost always a tablespoon of light blue cheese dressing. Another benefit is that I think before I move to the next box-Sometimes I forget to ask myself-Gee, am I really hungry?-and this seems to help to remind me.

It has worked so well that I think I will pack another box after work for the second part of the day. Maybe it is the novelty, but it is working! I really plan my shopping and meals better since I tried this. Let me know if you have any questions.

  3. Welcome-good for you for taking the steps you need to take care of yourself! There is a lot of excellent info on this board.

Hi there. My name is Kris and I live in Glendale, AZ. I am new to this sight. I started going through the process of getting banded back in October 2010. I am 3 months into the insurance mandatory diet with 3 months to go. I am hoping to get banded in May after I take finals for school. I am currently in my 3rd semester of nursing school. I am excited about getting banded.

  4. Welcome! Let us know how it goes! Do you have any specific questions?

My name is Gayle. I am 20 years old from Idaho. I have been struggling with weight for so long, and found out two years ago that I am severely hypothyroid. Even though I am being medicated for that I am having such a hard time losing weight. For me it takes all or nothing, and unfortunately when I work so hard to lose just a few pounds for some reason my mind gives up and doesn't care, and I can't make it care. I am seriously considering the LapBand, going to a seminar this Wednesday.

Any information or stories you guys could tell me about it would be great!

  5. The experience of the surgery varies so mush from person to person. I had an easy time of it. Now that I have lost so much weight every day of my life is more comfortable. I would do it again in a minute. This is a very personal decision. Make sure you research and are fully committed before you schedule the surgery. Best of luck!

  6. I have gone through a similar experience. I am 3.5 years out and gained 21 pounds over the course of a year of maintenance. I made lots of poor food choices (many involving ice cream!) On New Years day I decided to start like it was day one. Mushies for several days and then planning my meals and writing everything down. Exercise had also fallen by the wayside so I have committed to at least 20 minutes 3 times a week. I think that this is a learning process and its going to take more that 3 years to master it. Start by forgiving yourself an start taking care of yourself. It's a decision that is not too hard to live with with our bands! By the way I am down 8 pounds this month-like the good old days! Best of luck.

So next month it will be three years and the first two and a half years were great steady weight loss down 100 pounds. Over the past 6mths I figured out how to eat around the band. As a result I'm up 25 pounds. I feel like I can't get back on the wagon because I know how to cheat.... Any advice

  7. Whip up so low fat cottage cheese in the blender or food processor. Add some splenda and vanilla for a sweet treat. I also add sugar free Torani Syrup to it. It tastes like a mousse and is high in Protein, low in fat.

The Chobani yogurt is excellent if you add a packet of Splenda. I also ate some mashed potatoes that I added some unflavored Protein powder and extra skim milk to make them thinner. I made a leek and potato Soup that I pureed with a stick blender and that was satisfying. I poured some in a soup mug then added the chicken soup (Unjury) flavored protein powder to it. I also made plain oatmeal, and used protein powders to flavor it. I used banana nut bread and cinnamon roll flavored protein mix and it was very tasty. I tried eating some baby food (meats and veggies) and they were awful. I remember tasting it when my kids were babies and thought it was good, but this new stuff is just plain nasty. The dog loves it mixed in with his soft canned food though, so it won't go to waste.

  8. Remember the doctor works for you and not vice versa, you can fire him if you like!rolleyes.gif

If you have a Bariatric Center of Excellence near you - that would be the way to go, in my opinion.

I honestly believe that the skill of my surgeon made a huge difference in my pre-op care, post-op recovery and I expect my weight loss as well to be consistent. I seriously had minimal pain after surgery - not even gas pain.

  9. This is my experience-you know how when you have a regular burp-air comes up with varying amounts of force. With PBing, more than air comes up, can be either food or liquid. This is not reflux, it is not acidic, These substances come from your small stomach. Personally I seem to pb when I have gas and the other stuff comes along for the ride. rolleyes.gif I hear many people describe it as being caused by certain foods or overeating. I am sure there is a lot of variation.

  10. Glad you are feeling better!

I have been experiencing tight throat feeling, feeling of lump in throat for about 9 months now. Was not painful just annoying at times. So, I had a few experiences of being awaken from pain in chest and up jaw! SACRED me thought it was heart attack! so finally went to my surgen and she said def reflux. took out 1cc and gave me meds for reflux. So I go back in 3 wks to see how I feel. JUST FYI...thoght i would share.

  11. Two things I had to quit before my surgery were diet coke and candy. Proud to say I have had neither for 2.5 years. I do enjoy drinking flat soda once in a while. I leave the bottle loosely capped on the counter for a few days. Ice helps to minimize the carbonation also. My doctor never said no soda, but carbonation is uncomfortable for me. So I still have a diet rootbeer or gingerale, but always flat. I really don't miss the diet coke at all!smile.gif

  12. I have lost almost 150 and have no plans to have PS. I am simply thrilled that the skin is no longer filled with fat. I look fine in clothes am not one to worry about how I look in a bathing suit (after all I did wear one in public at 330 lbs). I wear three quarter or longer sleeves and longer skirts and shorts and am fine with the way I look and feel.
