    Why,Why,Why!

I've got basic. Chapstick, gas X strips, extra underwear, phone charger, pillow. I'm wearing loose sweatpants and shirt, slip on crocs so I don't have issues with shoes. Not taking too much as we won't be there long.

I got all my vitamins, shakes, protein powder, water, pretty much everything. I have it set up on my night stand like a pharmacy, lol lol

    Why,Why,Why!

You should be ok. Our surgeon only requires a two day liquid diet which starts tomorrow. You will be fine. I will most likely see you on Wed. Not sure what time until they call me. Did they give you a time yet?

    Why,Why,Why!

Oh okay! Yes we are on our way. No worries we will be fine. I'm ready. Little nervousness but ready! At least we don't have to have another week of waiting! Did you get all of your supplies?

    40 and headed for Fabulous

Yfoster 1, believe me I know your pain. I battled with it so much but I finally rationalized in my head (I'm getting the sleeve), that my stomach isn't supposed to be stretched out into this huge mess that I've made it anyway. If I didn't make such horrible food choices,it wold probably be a lot smaller. I guess if they have to take part of it, it won't be so bad. Besides, I think about how freakin horrible I feel everyday. I mean all this weight has such a negative effect. This is TMI, but just after sitting on the toilet for 3 minutes, my damn leg went numb from all the weight pushing down on my thigh. AAAAAARRRRGGGHHHH, that's not supposed to happen, lol. Your a small person as am I. So I can imagine how difficult it is carrying the extra weight. We deserve this and we are going to do great. (Although,I'm sure I will be moaning, groaning and everything else on Wed, lol).

Skinnyana, it's funny how milestones make you look at your life. I know we are going to do well (eventually, lol). It's just hard to believe that Wed morning, I will finally do this. Whew!

    Why,Why,Why!

Wow me too!!! are you in GA. My surgery was originally the 28th and they moved me to the 21st. I'm excited to get it over with. But the nerves are starting to kick in. I had to read you post twice, lol lol. I'm like, dang did I post this already. Lol

    African American Sleevers

Well all I have 3 days left before surgery day. I'm not really nervous about being successful, just a tad nervous about the surgery itself. I have cleaned up my closet, got all of the suggested things, Chapstick, etc., so I guess I'm ready. I have a hernia repair also. How have any of you done with that right after surgery (hernia repair)? And about how long did it take for your incisions to heal? Just curious. Thanks.

Any May 20th surgeries out there?

Hi, I'm sorry to hear that. The bottom line is people try to discourage you from things because most people are not brave enough to take the risks and steps necessary to change their lives. I have had people try to discourage me from many things that I've done in my life, from moving to another state to traveling abroad. When things are unfamiliar to people they fear it. It's definitely not the easier way out. It would be easier to go to the gym and work out, than to be put under anesthesia, be cut open, endure pain and recovery and still not be able to eat normally for two months.so not sure why people choose to say that. Unfortunately people are sometimes meant for a season in your life and no meant to be in your life forever. If they can't find it in There hearts to support you, you will have to let them go. Because you will change and you will be different. Physically, mentally and emotionally. But it's all for the betterment of your life. I don't care what they say about vanity. NO one wants to be fat. It's just reality....

Thanks big joe. That helps put time frames in perspective although I know everyone is different.

    Surgery was today!

Teshadb sorry to hear that. Stay strong and positive. I know it's easier said then done, but at least they think you are headed in the right direction as they sent you home. That has got to be a step in the right direction. Prayers up.

    African American Sleevers

Thanks back2barb78. I was just trying to get an idea. My surgeon says I can drive when I feel ready as long as I am clearly not taking pain meds. But just was trying to get a feel for others. I hate feeling stuck and stranded.
  20. Just read through all of Janelle's post. Thanks so much because it was so helpful. I hope I have a great stress free recovery as well. My surgery is Wed. I'm ready just want to get it over with. I am taking notes about your journey and pan to do the same to help others after me. The has been so very helpful. I really appreciate it!!!! I hope you are doing okay.

    African American Sleevers

Hmmmm not sure how that whole discussion turned into a debate. But I would have to agree that AA community is not as open to health care options in general. Obesity and mental health care are high up on the list. My surgery is next week and I have told no one but a few close family. I have not even told my mother, I will inform her after. This has nothing to do with being insecure about my decision, she can be down right negative sometimes. I mention thinking about it and all she said was no, that's crazy, you don't need that, blah, blah, blah. Lots of times black or white it comes from other people's insecurities of not being brave enough to stand up and make a decision to improve their own lives in any given area. So I'm not sure how some people interpreted the discussion as bashing our own kind. It was simply what it was, a discussion and no more.
  24. Hello. Not sure if they will approve. Most insurance companies (not sure about all), require a 35 BMI with the high cholesterol. So I'm not sure if they would approve you. You would have to contact a surgeons office but unfortunately you don't sound big enough. (That's not a bad problem to have). Good luck
