  1. Everyone has already given you great advice. I just want to advise you to mentally prepare for stalls and possible slight gains from time to time on this journey. I started at 406 lbs so I had over 200 lbs to lose. I lost 35 in the first month so 40 would have been so unrealistic for you. After my first month, I didn't lose anything else for an entire month. Was I crazy? Yes!! About to lose my mind! But reading that it has happened to others who were very successful sleevers was very reassuring. I am now 8 months out and down almost 110!

I had surgery in January and didn't lose weight in February or July. I pretty much just bounced around during these months. Did I lose inches? Yes! Did I go down a pant size? You bet! They'll happen; just stay the course and enjoy the ride. Good luck to you!

  2. SW: 323

    GW: 303

    CW: 305

Well, I missed my Labor Day goal by 2 lbs. it's like my body is holding on and afraid to let me get to 100 total loss. I think my new collar bones have scared the hell out of my body! LOL! But 18 lbs is nothing to sneeze at. PLUS, I dropped another dress size.

Going to shake up my routine and head over to the Halloween Challenge. Congrats everyone!!

  3. It does go away by eating more calories' date=' but it will also slow your weight loss. My surgeon said I want to keep ketosis going as long as I can to burn excess fat better.[/quote']

I think everyone is different with this, personally. I lost abt 35 lbs in the first month. I was on 3 weeks of liquids only. When I introduced food, I was only getting in around 400-500 calories - all Protein. I was still in ketosis but stalled for 3 and a half weeks during this time. My NUT said I wasn't eating enough so I upped it a bit and started losing again.

I still watch carbs and keep them low. But I had the best loss with a nice balance of foods. But everyone is so different. What works for me won't work for the next and so on. I've been losing 10-15 lbs a month but have now hit 2 weeks with no loss. It's time to switch things up again now that I'm 7 months out.

  4. My iPhone app keeps unsubscribing me from this thread. Anyone else having that problem?

I'm too lazy to scroll back and quote my last weigh in post so I'll just recap:

My Challenge SW in the beginning of July was 323. My goal weight is 303 for a total of a 20 lb loss. I weighed in yesterday at 308. Only 5 more lbs to go!

  5. hello MzPecanbrown, wow thats awesome you lost so much weight. I had vertical sleeve surgery on july 16th in california. I moved recently to raleigh , nc. I have lost 30 lbs since surgery. it is stalled for now. I dont see any weight loss. Also i am worried about what kind of workout i should be doing. I was wondering if you could give me info about weight loss management centers for weight loss surgery patients that would specifically know how to handle patients like me.

    Thank you in advance

Hey there! I live an hour and a half from Raleigh but had my surgery in Durham. I am not as familiar with weight loss centers in the area, however, my office offers a monthly support group. I went through the Duke Metabolic and Weight Loss Surgery clinic in Durham. The support group schedule for Durham and Raleigh is on the Duke website. I know it's free to patients, but I would call and see if there is a fee for others - 1-866-637-0711. Let me know if I can help you with anything else. Your weight loss so far is awesome!

Last week, I was 318.6. Yesterday, I weighed in at 315.6. That's 3 lbs this week! 12.6 more to go!

I'll be out of town from Thursday through Sunday on a trip with my students. That usually means bad eating for me. I've gotta stay strong!

  7. HW 335

    SW 239 (7/04/12)

    GW 219 (9/03/12)

    Wk 1 (7/09/12) 238 -1#

    Wk 2 (7/16/12) 233 -5#

    Wk 3 (7/23/12) 231 -2#

22# to goal..whew! I don't know if I can make this challenge or not. I have been doing WAAY too many carbs the last couple of days. That has got to go! I have upped my Protein greatly though. At least that is a step in the right direction.

You're only 12 lbs to goal, not 22. You got this!

  8. Vomiting after VSG is not like it was before (at least not for me and not representing those who have had leaks or excessive nausea' date=' etc.) there is not much force behind the food that is coming up and because of PPI's not much acid either, it is more like chewed food going the other direction - OUT. Not much wretching or fluids probably due to not drinking with a meal. It's over in a few minutes and then you feel fine.

I slimed a few times in the beginning by eating too fast/too much...but found my happy place - the old 1/2 cup or 4 oz limit for most meals.[/quote']

Ditto on Katie's post. I couldn't have said it better. Also, before surgery I was good at controlling vomit if I felt queasy. I could swallow several times and often the queasy feeling will subside. Now, if it's coming up, it's coming up. Swallowing will only make it worse. And it's just chewed up food - no liquid with it.
