Also, I have been doing really good with my protein for the last 6 weeks. I never met my protein goal in the beginning, but have gotten at least 70 grams per day for the last month and a half. My surgical team stressed that protein was key in helping to prevent the hair loss. And my weight loss has been slower after the first month. Last month I lost 10 lbs. I am thinking that the gradual loss may help with hair and skin issues. At least a sista hopes so!

Hey Ladies! I am on myfitnesspal and use it daily. Feel free to add me! I am MzPecanBrown there, also. Jewels, I am completely natural and am almost 4 months out from surgery. I have taken Biotin every day for a couple of years now. It supports new hair growth, so I don't think it actually prevents the loss. It aids in the growing back. I definitely don't want to jinx myself but I haven't noticed any real significant loss. I had some heavy shedding a few weeks back, but that has stopped. I wash my hair weekly, let it air dry, and apply my natural hair products to it as needed. I try not to add any additional stress to it. It's very full and curly, actually it's more full to me now than it was pre surgery. I hope and pray that I don't encounter any significant loss. I am loving my natural! Best of luck to you!
  4. It's completely normal and happens to most of us. Search for "Three Week Stall" on the site and you'll find tons of info. Personally, I stalled for almost 4 weeks during my 2nd month. It drove me CRAZY but I was relieved to know that it is just a part of the process.

    Allow Me To Introduce Myself

Welcome! I didn't ask a lot of questions on my first visit. It was more focused on my pre op testing. I told them which surgery I wanted, we discussed my health history, I met with the nutritionist, scheduled my pre op testing and psych visit, etc. I was provided with a lot of information that was relevant to all WLS. I had a long list of questions at my final pre op appt. But I would ask some things about the surgeon's experience with the sleeve, what will the pre and/or post op diet look like, what will the hospital stay be like, surgeon's complication rates, how long will you need to be off work. Please keep us posted on your journey. I'll save a spot for you on the loser's bench.

    Hey Guys

Have you ever tried Weight Watchers? I am confident that you could lose 10 by then following one of their plans. Good luck to you!

    Stupid Scale!

I usually weigh 3 or 4 times in the morning and find that my first weight is higher, but only by a pound or two. Never several pounds. The other 3 times of getting off and allowing it to reset results in the same weight. Maybe I need to change my batteries too!
  8. OMG! I thought this was just me, too! I have worried the heck out of my doctors trying to find out what is wrong with me! All of my labs have been wonderful so they are not concerned. But I've only gone 2-3 times per day since around my 4th week post op. I also don't get a full bladder feeling anymore. I drink at least 64 oz on most days and have at least one protein shake per day. Glad to hear it's not just me!
  9. Certainly! Prayers going up! You'll do fine! Please let us know how you're doing when able. See you on the losing side!

    Ten Month Comparison

AMAZING!! I'm super happy for you!!
  11. Hey everyone! I had my 3 month follow up yesterday and am happy to report that I'm down 53 lbs since surgery! For one, I can't believe that 3 months have already passed. I was hoping to be down more than that by now but I am beginning to let that go. I stalled for almost my entire 2nd month and was just glad to see progress during the 3rd month. I have become obsessed with counting - carbs, Protein, fat grams, ounces of Water, etc. I started feeling like I was on the hardest diet ever! I was the baby in my support group yesterday, all others were 8-12 months post op. It was hard expressing my frustrations because they all had a been there, done that attitude about plateaus and weighing daily. My NUT told me that I need to eat more and stop worrying so much about carbs. She said that 600-700 calories are not enough. I left wondering how anorexic people remain thin. I know I'm eating more than an anorexic, but still.... Even though I don't really see it when I look in the mirror, this side by side comparison really shows the difference. The before was August of 2011 and after picture was taken this week. Surgery was January 10. I can't wait for the next 50 to come off!!
  12. Thanks everyone! You all are awesome! Catracks, my hair has been natural for just over 2 years now. I was having a bad hair day in the former pic so I threw a wig on it. LOL! Thanks for the compliments!

    Beautiful!! Congrats to you!!
  18. Thanks guys!! I love the support here! I was so frustrated and then I looked at some old pics. It helped put things into perspective. I didn't put it on overnight. Plus, the stress is making me crazy! LOL!!
  19. Don't know if my picture attached the first time. Sorry if you get it twice. :-)

How Soon Did You Go Back To Work?

Everyone heals differently. My surgeon recommended 3 weeks. I took 2 and struggled badly when I returned.

    Magnesia Citrate

I had the lemon flavored. I put it in the fridge before going to bed because I read it went down easier cold. It was salty but fizzy like soda. I drank it at 4 am and it started working about 3 hours later.

    Protein Shakes Making Me Sick

Ditto on the Premier shakes. I had a difficult time getting various shakes in during the first 3 weeks after surgery. These were the only ones I tolerated. I still have one most days for breakfast or after exercise. They have 30 grams of protein.
